Michelle was wonderful at making sure the house is EXTREMELY clean and well stocked. It had everything we needed and more for a family with four young children.
The house was very nice, and the sunrise over the water was beautiful. We greatly appreciated the heated pool as our stay coincided with the coldest weather in the Keys in decades. Key deer visited on the daily. If I could make one suggestion to the owner, it would be to add stepping stones from the stairs to the pool; the coral landscaping is not foot-friendly. Launching the kayaks was fairly easy from the dock, and the one day when the temp and wind got along, we were able to paddle to a couple of the nearby Keys.

I'm happy that even with the cold weather, you had a good time and you were able to enjoy what Big Pine Key has to offer. Thank you for the suggestion.
We had an amazing time at this property! It was the perfect private and peaceful oasis. House was clean and the perfect size for our group of 4. Views and pool were amazing. Exactly what we were looking for! Michelle was great to deal with and we would definitely stay here again. Loved it!

Thank you for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed our little piece of paradise. Hope to see you soon.
ps Let me make clear that is not a saltwater pool.
Great property with private setting, including wildlife and in a perfect location for daytripping north to Marathon and south to Key West. Very clean with all amenities ever needed. Excellent place to celebrate birthdays with warmth and sunshine. Highly recommend!

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. Keep us in mind for your next vacation. See you soon.
Michelle and the Coral house were exactly what we needed. Our family fished, swam, grilled and went snorkeling. The dock was perfect for our boat. The pool was refreshing and the property was fantastic. We have already booked it again for next year. Our favorite place to stay, now.

Great location - equi distant to Marathon & Key West
Amenities were spectacular, I would definitely stay here again. Michelle was a great host.
See Penny at the visitor center, and book great excursions as well.
Overall an 12 out of 10.
We greatly enjoyed our stay. The weather was always the best, but with the location we were able to go to Marathon or Key West for shopping, museums and dining. The house was very quiet and well stocked. It was amaxing to watch the sunrise and the Key Deer. This was my children's favorite part!
We highly recommend and would stay again!

I'm pleased that you and your family enjoyed your stay at our little piece of paradise. Hope to see you soon.
Property was perfection! The house was well stocked with all the things you need for a family stay. Everything was clean and well maintained including the pool & dock. Location was perfect for us. Local stores had everything we needed and less crowded than marathon stores.
This was an amazing property for our 3 family trip. The dock was perfect for the boat and the kids fished almost nightly too. The kayaks and pool were perfect as well, there was something for everyone. We were able to cook several meals in the nicely equipped kitchens. We will definitely rent again from Michelle!

I'm pleased to hear that. You are welcome back anytime. Michelle
We had a blast for the Thanksgiving holiday. We were able to dock our 25’ catamaran and store the trailer there with plenty of room. Had fun snorkeling and fishing nearly every day. House had everything we could need. Gorgeous views too!! Water view from dining room/kitchen.

Heather,

House was great, and very clean. The pool came in very handy, and our kids loved it. The dock was wonderful, and made for excellent sunrise pictures! It was also fun catching fish from the dock. You do have to get used to the smell of the sea grass…especially on a calm day when the wind didn’t clear it out from accumulating. Great location home.
On arrival I will admit I was a little skeptical….The awful odor and the nonstop winds had me concerned, but as others commented we really did get use to the smell and after settling in and enjoying the secluded home, fantastic swimming pool and great fishing dock…we really loved this place! The property was clean and well stocked. Michelle was extremely friendly and helpful. And the clean, warm , private pool made the trip! Our stay in Big Pine Key was extremely, unusually windy! Made it a little hard to enjoy the deck with a view but obviously not anyone’s fault. We enjoyed the convenience of location to great restaurants and activities while being tucked away from large crowds and rowdy neighbors. Overall this was a great trip and great place to stay!!
This is our 3rd time staying at this property. 1st time since hurricane Irma. The owners do their very best to maintain this wonderful place. They have done a great job rebuilding and reparing since Irma. The new house was beautiful. It is our family’s plan to return many times. Thank you for allowing us to stay.

Thank you for the compliments. Its been hard but worth the tears and sweat putting it back together again with reviews like this. You know you are always welcome. See you next year.
Although there are three buildings on this property, they will not rent the other two if only one is rented which is very nice and allows privacy during your stay. Michelle was very attentive to any questions/concerns we had. This would be perfect for a multi-family reunion and rent all the buildings!
This property is everything I hoped for and more. We stayed in the coral house which had three bedrooms & had the full property to ourselves. It was clean, well stocked with everything we needed and the beds were comfortable. The deck and bbq were perfect for the evenings. We were up every morning to see the sunrise and the key deer then morning swim with the kids. We tried the kayaks, enjoyed the fishing from the dock & played games in the shade under the house. The house is near Bahia Honda State park for beaches and snorkelling & about 40 min from Key West. Michelle was responsive to any questions. Overall we had a fantastic time at this property.

Thank you for your great review. I knew the kids would like the key deer. They had thrive since Hurricane Irma in 2017. Now we have numerous families roming around. Hope you keep us in mind when you plan your next vacation. See you soon.
We spent the week here in April. It was perfect. A few things for those who are traveling to the area for the first time.
1) The blue floating barrier in the pictures is not a swimming area, it's a barrier for the seaweed and weather. That area prior between the sea wall and the barrier is a shallow non-swimmable space to protect the property.
2) The pool is amazing and you will utilize it. It's deep enough in one end to jump in (I wouldn't recommend diving for safety) but is lots of fun for the kids.
3) The dock is essential - great for tying up boats and fishing. No cleats, just the dock pilons to tie to. Gets about 4-6 feet deep at the end and the currents are very manageable.
4) Fishing: it was hard to fish sometimes from the dock due to the seaweed (this year is especially challenging but usually not as bad) yet we still caught mangrove snapper, tarpon and other fish. The water is so clear you can see EVERYTHING, and the Cobia hunting at night is wild (we didn't catch any of them!)
5) House has everything you need to cook etc, first house I've ever been to that I didn't really need anything.
6) Bait/fish freezer was very lovely - nice to keep things separate
7) Shade: there is no shade on the dock and limited on the property (except under the houses). So you may want to bring something for that, we were fine.
8) Grocery shopping: Michelle put it best - if you need something NOW hit up the Winn Dixie on Big Pine, but if you want to do a comprehensive shopping, take the time to go to Marathon and go to either the Winn Dixie there or the Publix.
9) Smell - you may be initially put off when you first arrive during the Sargassum (seaweed) season. The seaweed itself is fine, but as it decays there can be a "rotten egg" smell. DO NOT PANIC. It's really not as significant as you think it will be. It's really only there if there is ZERO wind which there never is except when we drove up and parked. The rest of the time even my crazy picky kids and husband didn't notice it or care if they did.
We will be back and stay again!
This was our 6th straight year staying at Island Sunrise Resort. We rented both the coral house and the mermaid cottage. As usual, Michelle let us drop the boats at the house as soon as we got there. We bummed around until the houses were ready and hit our usual lunch spot (Boondocks on Ramrod Key) and got groceries from the Winn Dixie. When we got in the houses, both were clean and well equipped with all kitchen necessities and other household items. There is a gas grill for cooking your catch and the kids spent a lot of time in the awesome pool. Plenty of dock space for our 3 boats and paddle boards. The house also provides three kayaks and a bait freezer. We caught tarpon, snapper and bonnet head sharks right from the dock. Launching the boats is easy and convenient at the paved boat ramp about a mile from the house at the base of the Spanish Harbor bridge and there is plenty of room to park the trailers on property. The house is about 3 miles from Bahia Honda State Park and the old railroad bridge and its free to tie up at the marina for boaters. Ran the kids over there several times to get ice cream from the ships store. Made day trips to both Content Key and Looe Key for snorkeling. Also made our annual pilgrimage to Key West for some adult fun and to watch the sunset at Mallory Square with one of the boys getting invited up to assist the Cat Man with his show. We fished the bridges almost every day, catching tarpon, Jacks, black grouper, snapper and BIG nurse sharks. Got out to the reef for some good action with yellowtail, mangrove snapper and cero mackerel. Boys spent a morning at the Keys Cable Park in Marathon wakeboarding. Had dinner at No Name Pub and got take out from China Garden in the Winn Dixie parking lot. Resident Key Deer came to visit every morning and evening. One of our friends even got to help rescue one deer that got caught on the wrong side of the chain link fence along the road as she was jogging one morning. Thanks to the guys at Lower Keys Tackle for chum and all the helpful info. You can still see some of the effects from Irma but the island is coming back strong and there's a lot of new green growth everywhere. We've already booked for 2020.
