Great family cottage overlooking white sand beaches. Features great room with electric fireplace, updated kitchen, high-speed wireless internet, flat-panel HDTV with Blue-ray player, reclining sofas, pack and play, home theater system and DVD library. 3 bedrooms, 2 baths. NO SMOKING, NO PETS. Amenities: 3 large flat-panel HDTVS with DVDS, dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave, ceiling fans, H/C outside shower, fish-cleaning table, grill, under-house parking, and more.

Horton Cottage made our family’s Thanksgiving dream come true

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Horton Cottage was the perfect pick to celebrate Thanksgiving with big open living, dining room and spacious kitchen. The views of the gulf were stunning. The beach really is a very short walk on the Cottage private path. We saw dolphins, kayaks, and many seabirds. The cottage is an older construction with expected quirky little issues. When we were preparing Thanksgiving dinner, the microwave went on strike. I made a panicked call to Cassie and within a half hour she saved our meal with a brand new counter top microwave. We all loved the cottage and we’ll be back.

It was very comfortable for our party of seven , including five 18 year old men. The home was very clean, and well appointed. The kitchen appeared to be recently updated. The a.c.worked great in upper 90 degrees. The washing machine didn’t work when we arrived on Saturday, but the rental agency worked on that , and we had a new one by Wednesday. I love renting from the friendly folks at Suncoast , and will definitely return to the Horton Cottage Home.

Outside stairs could use a support brace(they're slightly wobbly) and deck chairs need to be replaced (the colorful chairs in the pictures have been re-painted grey, but they are all cracked or broken). We used our beach chairs to enjoy the deck, and this will not detour us from staying here again. We loved watching the dolphins from the house and the easy access to the beach was great for everyone. Everyone I interacted with from Suncoast was nice & friendly. Our family can't wait to be back next year! :)

Relaxing Getaway

Suncoast is an absolute joke!!!

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The vacation house was great! It did have a small few things that could have been fixed but nothing that would hurt the trip. The issue I have with them is their cleaning company stole our chairs, cabana, and table. The worker Janice I spoke with on the day we left told me they stated they picked them up and would bring them right back. They never brought them back. Fast forward to today, I yet again called them. They have changed the story twice now and the cleaning company doesn’t have them? Don’t waste your money with this rental company. They will not help you, they will protect their own even if it costs you having to pay for all the items that their cleaners had no business picking up in the first place. Lesson learned! Will not use this rental company again.

We assumed that the bedrooms would have closets but to our astonishment, they didn’t. The secondary bedroom didn’t have any storage other than a wire shelf hanging on the wall.

Needs TLC!

Reviewer Comments: Definitely adequate accommodations, beds were comfortable and of course a million dollar view! Had to remind myself of that when looking at it from the beach, it’s the most run down looking house in the area due to needing paint and a roof. It could have been better cleaned and the stove needs some work. Fridge kept everything nice and cold and the freezer worked well as well though!

All about the location!

We have stayed at a variety of VRBO's and understand that each property is unique and has their own quirks. Our first impression was a set of steep uneven stairs leading up the weathered exterior and we were a bit concerned for what would be inside, but it is definitely updated inside. The highlights for this stay is the location- steps to the beautiful beach, dolphins cruising by in the morning, sunsets! Beds were cozy, showers were good, larger than expected living space to sprawl in.This is managed by a company so the check in procedure involves visiting their office to check in during a 1-hour window (though we were called/emailed an hour before the check-in time and told our packet would be in the drop box for pick-up- which would have been nice to know earlier for a more relaxing drive in, but was fine). This is a property where they only provide starter supplies- 1 roll of TP/bathroom, 2 dishwasher pods, etc.- so plan accordingly or visit the very-well stocked Piggly Wiggly down the road.The kitchen had a decent variety of dishes and pots but there was not a trace of food to be found- no salt, no pepper- so again pack with care. A few more photos online would help people appreciate what this location offers- which is the location!

Great location, nice house

It was clean and it is apparent that the owners are in the process of fixing it up. As one of the older places on the beach it has only one flight of stairs. That was a distinct advantage for us.The kitchen has been remodeled and is lovely though not well equipped. We purchased a liquid measuring cup and left it for you. The beds were very comfortable. Bring blankets or warm pjs until Covid-19 is done. Also bring DVDs because they have been removed because of the virus. There are no closets or hangers, just a couple of hooks for hanging clothes so pack accordingly. We thoroughly enjoyed the deck morning, noon and night. We observed gulls, pelicans, dolphins, and sunrises. The gulf's white sand beaches are gorgeous.We would stay here again.

Great Beach, Home Could Use an Upgrade

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We have been to SGI many years in a row, unfortunately our "usual" house was grabbed up before we were able to book it this year. We selected Horton Cottage based on the photos and description but should have taken the reviews into account a bit more. The location is amazing, and really what we were there for. That being said, Horton Cottage is probably 40-50 years old and it shows. This property could definitely use a deep clean and bit of an upgrade. Outdoor furniture and steps were aging and splintering. Indoors was very dusty and we spent an hour sweeping and vacuuming when we checked in. Didn't feel comfortable using the fan in one room because of the thick dust sitting on the blades and its proximity to the top bunks where are kids were sleeping. There is definitely some regular maintenance needed to bring Horton Cottage up to where it could be. We would return for its location but will try other properties if possible for cleanliness and maintenance.

Incredible location/old house

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The location is incredible with a beautiful view and super short trail to the beach. The house however, needs lots of work and updating. The bathrooms are partially updated but the toilets and toilet seats are super old and stained. The bedroom dressers and chest of drawers are very old, severely scratched and dinted. There are so many cords hanging everywhere in the house. It seemed like a hazard to me. The living room furniture was comfortable and adequate. There are pictures on the wall coming out of their frames in every room. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen had been updated but was less than adequate. However, we don't cook much so it wasn't a problem. The steps going up to the house seems unstable. The house overall could use a deep cleaning. We found dirty socks, candy wrappers and water bottles under the bunk beds. The location was fabulous and we still enjoyed our week because we stayed on the beach. I would not recommend this house though. It could be very nice with some work. Last, we got to the island 15 minutes before the rental company closes and the house wasn't ready. We had to wait an additional 20 minutes to enter (after 5 p.m.)

Wonderful location right on the beach, beautiful area. Listing was definitely accurate -- this property is a bit dated and has been... well-loved. On the pros for that: That's a plus with small kids since they can sometimes be hard on things; on the cons, there are some areas the place could use a little TLC (the tiles under the outdoor shower are not balanced and very loose and can hurt toes or cause falls; steps to the house are quite rickety and we were concerned about safety; some of the chests of drawers were VERY tippy, especially the one in the bunk beds room with the kids, which was scary; and there's cords and exposed plugs EVERYWHERE from the TVs and Internet, which only partially worked anyway; the microwave doesn't have a working turntable and therefore heats unevenly, and the eyes on the stove were also tippy which is a little concerning when trying to use pan). They were EXTREMELY bare on kitchen utensils and items, more than any other vacation property I've been in, and while we were prepared to bring or buy paper goods and dish soap, the complete lack of hand soap was disconcerting. Also be warned, there are no closets (if that matters to you on vacation). However, it was clean, the beds were very very comfortable, the curtains were light-blocking, the ceiling fans were quiet, the hot water was great, the living area was quite large, the a/c worked well, ice maker produced huge amounts of ice, and again it was right on the beach. Location could not be beat. :)

Week at Horton Cottage

Horton Cottage was roomy, comfortable, furnished and cold ac. Week stay was Sunday to Sunday. Only problem: Cable TV reception failed on Thursday morning. Called Suncoast office and reported issue for three days. Problem was never fixed. Nice large screen TVs in each room were unusable. Overall, nice house and location, poor management by Suncoast.

After staying at another rental last summer in St George that was a couple rows back from the beach the location of Horton was great. It’s right on the beach and a very short walk to the sand. The beach was not busy at all at this location and we were probably not set up 75’or so to the next family. The driveway is plenty big enough for several vehicles. Although the interior is a little dated the house was very clean and had lots of room and everything you need to cook, etc. My only complaint and not a big deal was the outside furniture on the deck was not in good shape and a couple of the loungers were broken. If there were a couple taller chairs and maybe a table on the deck it would be great. It would allow you to see over the railings to the beach and enjoy your coffee outside in the mornings. I would absolutely stay here again though.

We assumed that the bedrooms would have closets but to our astonishment, they didn’t. The secondary bedroom didn’t have any storage other than a wire shelf hanging on the wall.

Forgotten Home on the Forgotten Coast

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The location of this house cannot be beat. It’s a brief walk across the sand to get to the water. This is also the best quality of it by far. The house itself looks like it’s falling apart - from cracks in the ceiling to broken furniture and windows. One lamp was literally snapped in two. The outdoor shower is unusable as it does not have walls and the stairs sag and bounce at every step (and we aren’t huge humans). This property needs some serious maintenance and attention. They’ve refinished the kitchen area and part of one bathroom. We turned on one of the ceiling fans when we arrived and clumps of dust flew out of it for several minutes. The beach is great, so this rental would be tolerable if you didn’t need to stay inside much.
