My wife was really doubtfull of recent trip here. Will never go back to port a. We had so much fun going out at 6, sip on our coffee, watch the sunrise a little after 7, take a short stroll thru the dunes and walk the beach. It was suprising to see more than 1 or 2 folks on the beach, yes its early, but no one all day, Fantastic and special place, tks for all. Mnl

Matagorda summer stay year 10

We have stayed at this property 4x over the last 10 years and have found it clean, comfortable and with great views of and easy access to the beach. The futon floor has a somewhat musty smell, and there were a couple of items missing we needed on this visit (trash bags and soap). Other than that, another great year and we plan to be back again next year.

Enjoyed our stay on Matagorda Bay

Nice property. Very clean and well maintained. We particularly enjoyed the Great Horned Owl mother and owlets nesting in the trunk of a palm tree just a few yards from the deck.

Great house in walking distance from the beach. Pet friendly.

Overall our stay was great. House was very clean and organized, there were toys and movies to play for our 2 grandkids. Only thing I would say that I wasn’t 100% with was the actual walking distance from the beach.It seemed allot shorter wall in the pics and the actual path about halfway down it had a makeshift bridge made with pallets thru the soggy ground. It was a bit slippery and we weren’t a be to our beach wagon over it, so we have to load everything up in our vehicle and drive around to the beach. But other than that it was a great place to stay with very reasonable price compared to the surrounding rentals and pet friendly.

It was a chill place nearby nothing but a gorgeous beach. Warning: you have to have a four wheel drive vehicle or garden galoshes to get the beach. The house was in good shape for being older. It sleeps a lot of people.

Last Minute Birthday Get Away

Bobbie &Matt were excellent hosts, allowing us to set up last minute accommodations for my wife's 60th birthday getaway. The home is in a great location near the beach and close to enough to town for any last minute things we needed from Stanleys. The house was clean, neat and the house was well stocked with everything necessary for a great stay. We come to Matagorda often and will check their availability again. Take care, till next time!

Perfect getaway

We had a fantastic time! The house has plenty of room for the kids to have their own space. The view from upstairs is stunning, perfect spot to have your coffee in the morning. Highly recommend, we will be back!!

Ocean Breezes and Family Fun

We all hopped out of the car after the long drive and headed straight for the beach. The mosquitos were waiting. After that first ambush we were much more prepared and wore long sleeves and pants for the trip through the dunes to the beach. Thankfully the house also came with a ready supply of bug spray! The gauntlet of mosquitoes along the trail was our only issue during our stay - they didn't even bother us on the deck. We loved everything else about our stay. The house itself is very comfortable and had everything we needed. Our favorite part was the two decks. The upper deck has amazing views of the beach and gulf. Our kids loved the nook room up at the top floor as well. It was nice that the majority of vehicle traffic on the beach was more towards the east where the main beach road is which gave us tons of space. As with all things along the coast there is definitely some rust and things like rough deck lumber and warped paneling. However, we had no functional issues with the house and it made a fantastic base for us to enjoy Matagorda. The folks over at the Matagorda Bay Nature Park were super friendly and helped us rent kayaks which was one of the highlights of our trip, so check them out if you go!

Perfect Anniversary Getaway!

We stayed Wed - Sat to celebrate our anniversary and it was absolutely perfect! We had so much solitude at the house, on the beach and even at restaurants in town that it felt like we were on a private island just for the two of us. The hosts were very responsive and communicated well. The house has plenty of comfortable sleeping spots and space for multiple families, the kitchen is well stocked for all your cooking needs and the view from the deck are wonderful! 180 degrees of dunes, beachfront surf, and beautiful sky from the top deck! We spent hours up there just watching the waves crash and enjoying the roar of the ocean. We went through the walk trail through the dunes long walks on the beach. It was great advice to bring rain boots for that trek. We also went to the LCRA Nature Science Center near by purchased the pass to drive on the beach. We have a Subaru Outback AWD and if you know how to drive on sand you should be fine most of the way but we saw several big trucks stuck. We saw several different types of birds and deer too! All and all it was everything we wanted to celebrate our anniversary! 💖 Definitely want to go back with family and friends!

Drunk uncle's beach house

Though the photos are a fair representation of the visual of this place, nothing captures the true ambiance. I'll break down my review in three parts: smell, amenities, and safety. First, the smell. While I know it is difficult to keep a beach property fresh due to the humidity and such, this place smelled like stale sweat and pee. The beds must be decades old as they smelled like years of stale sweat and b.o. The entire downstairs area near the kitchen smelled like urine - especially if you tried to sit down on the old, old couch - you'd get a special waft of something gross. The second and third floors weren't so bad but the smell of the first floor did make eating, hanging out in and around the kitchen, and reentering the house unappealing. Ick. Second, the amenities. This place was a collection of all of the old, broken-down stuff you have left over when you get new stuff. All of the furniture was VERY worn with lumps and bumps. The "couch" upstairs (a futon-type thing) felt like you'd fall right through when you sat down. Each of the stools around the island was just as flimsy - you had to carefully balance on the frame for fear of the center falling through. And the towels looked like something you'd picked up at a garage sale. All very old, thin, and worn. They didn't even bother to put out a new bar of soap for the bathroom sink and the sponge in the kitchen was DISGUSTINGLY old and soured. The microwave did not heat things. The wi-fi went out. The thermostat was locked for the first day we were there so you couldn't control the temp. The "fireplaces" were ill-fitting, electric plug-ins with cords running all over the place that put off ZERO heat. We thought ok - the wifi is out, let's play some games. Every single game we took out was missing vital pieces. So, that was a bust. Lastly, safety. This place felt like something your Uncle Bubba - who worked construction for a summer or two as a kid - built. The floor was warped, the beams and ceiling sagged, and there were electrical cords - AND WIRING - exposed and running all over the place. The lights flickered when they worked at all. The washer didn't work well - I think because the electricity to it was coming on and off. The wall paneling around the outlets on the first floor was bubbled and water damaged. The wall siding in several places was like that. The stairs were awkward - different sizes, poorly planned when they build-on levels. Location was beautiful. Beach was nice.

Wonderful Location

We loved our time here! My son wanted a relaxing vacation and that is exactly what he got. The house was exactly as described. Great communication the entire time we were there. Would for sure go back again!

Very comfortable with great views

This home is very comfortable and has beautiful views of the beach and oceans from the patios. Just a short walk down the path to get to the beach. Home is older but well kept, clean and well stocked with everything you will need for a great stay.

Met the owners…super nice & accommodating!

We enjoyed our stay, but… 1. Downstairs living area very small…could have used the larger upstairs living room but we wanted to be close to kitchen for snacks & dining table for games 2. Small step up & down from dining room to living room was hazardous 3. No dishwasher was disappointing 4. unable to walk to beach due to swampy area 5. Parts of the house are in need of repairs

We’ve stayed at a lot of rental houses and this was by far the worst. The house had a strange odor to start with. The showers had used soap in them. Paint chipping off walls & ceilings. The walls were warped from moisture. Broken blinds and internal doors in every room. The bed spreads & furniture was very outdated. Towels had stains on them. Moist carpets. The main door had a decent size gap under it which let in bugs. We killed a few roaches actually. No screens on any doors or windows so we weren’t able to enjoy the lovely ocean breeze. The owners keep the thermostat locked at 72 which we found to be very warm to sleep in. The decks had large nails sticking out from many boards and I cut my foot pretty badly on one. No lounge chairs to sit on. The corn hole game board was broken. The pathway to the beach was under knee deep water with slippery pallets underneath which a member of our group slipped and fell on. We awoke our last morning to rain splattering all over the dining room floor from the roof leaking. There is a large list of rules to follow posted throughout the house, none of which were communicated beforehand. We kept our comments to ourselves for the most part as we wanted to try and make the best of our trip. The two times we did communicate with the owner, she was unfriendly and had zero interest in how our stay was going. The pictures of the house are taken in a way as to not show damage. This house should not be rented until many repairs are made.

It's all about the beach! The beach at Matagorda is totally fantastic; big, wide and sandy. Only seconds from 'Lazy Daze' and you are there. If you want you can also drive onto the beach which runs uninterrupted for 24 miles!

Location, location, location! 'Lazy Daze' is just feet from the beach and has it's own beach access path, both day and night, to one of the best undiscovered beaches in Texas. All this and its only 2 hours from Houston!
