Another magical time

This is our third stay at this wonderful place and I don’t see how we can think of going elsewhere, since it has it all for us, a perfect layout, proximity to the ocean, but in a quiet homelike neighborhood. Thanks!

The house is probably the nicest place I have rented thru vrbo. The host has thought of everything and all is top quality. Beach towels, chairs, wagon etc! The house is beautifully decorated and very comfortable.

Awesome beach getaway

The home was so clean and comfortable for our adult family of 5! Close proximity to beach and awesome restaurants nearby. Shelley was very accommodating and responsive before and during our stay. We’d highly recommend her home for your Oak Island vacation!

50th Birthday Girls Getaway

This house is the most well appointed VRBO I’ve rented! Beach chairs, bikes, linens, even a few staples in the pantry, & comfortable beds. It made our stay so much easier. Shelley is a great host!! We will be back!

My favorite rental ever.

This is the best vacation rental I’ve ever stayed at. I want this to be my full time home. Perfectly located, decorated, stocked, and layout. The house was so clean, super comfy beds, EXTRA towels and beach items to use. I will be back! Thank you for sharing your home.

Beautiful Home

The house was beautiful. Exactly what the pictures show. House is stocked with most of the things you could need. Linens are included. Beds are firm but comfortable. House is close to the beach and all restaurants. We had a great stay there and are looking forward to another trip next year!

Beautiful home!

The light and airy feeling we got from the photos sold us on this house for our girls' trip and it absolutely exceeded our expectations! The renovations and decorating were so well done, and the hosts thought of everything you could possibly need while staying there. The living room furniture and beds were comfortable, and the house was very clean. The neighborhood was quiet and nice to walk around in. Communication and check-in were so easy. I highly recommend this home - we would gladly stay here again!

The best time ever

We really enjoyed our time there, wish it could have been longer. The layout of the house was great, it is so airy and well, beachlike. Gorgeous decor. Plenty of room for 5 adults and a baby taking her first steps. A few blocks from the Oak Island beach and a 5 min drive from the Caswell beach area which has free public parking. We loved the little park on the waterway right across the street from the house. All in all a wonderful experience!

Our second vacation stay at "Carefree by the Sea" was once again delightful. The charm of the house is what keeps us coming back: cozy and inviting, with a perfect blend of comfort and character. The location couldn't have been better, just a stone's throw away from the sandy shores and breathtaking sunsets. What truly made our stay memorable, though, were the wonderful homeowners. Their hospitality was exceptional, making us feel welcomed and cared for throughout our time at each stay. From helpful local tips to ensuring every detail was taken care of, they went above and beyond to ensure our stay was nothing short of perfect. In short, it was a great getaway where every aspect, from the charming ambiance of the house to the prime location and the genuine warmth of the homeowners came together to create an unforgettable beach vacation experience.

Beautifully renovated house fully stocked

This rental was perfect for our family of 4. Comfy beds and spacious bathrooms. The living area includes open plan kitchen, dining and TV area, plus an entry sitting room and outdoor seating. Bright and airy space with plenty of room and comfy furniture. The kitchen was stocked with all the basics and plenty of dishes and glasses. Full-size washer/dryer plus beach chairs, towels, umbrellas, carts, coolers and games like spike all and cornhole plus 3 bikes. Everything we needed for the beach! Thank you!

Clean and Spacious, well furnished

This house was beautifully decorated, and very well maintained. Additionally, the home was very clean. The owners also provided every beach item you could need including six chairs, a shibumi shade, boogie boards, hand cart, and many games. The owners were incredibly responsive, and answered the phone when I called them. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans. The house is very spacious with a large table for dinner and large living that allowed for us all have a seat and enjoy the space. The beach is about 12 minute walk, and there is parking by the beach if you want to take a car down, but I personally walked down each time and it was no problem. The most difficult part of walking is the lack of crosswalks at the main road, but we always found a break in traffic within a minute or two even with a party of six crossing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Care free by the sea, and plan to stay again in the future.

The Jewel of Oak Island

Amazing property that is close to everything and has too many amenities to list. So I will list my favorites. The home is a true hidden gem. Beautiful appointed home and well equipped. We are a small family of four and the three bedrooms and two bathrooms were perfect. We experienced a hiccup with the internet but Shelley and Walt were easy to communicate with during the experience and it was solved (equipment failure) in a few days. We had our cell phones and tablets; getting us out of the house and enjoying the surrounding beach community. We were able to walk to the small park across the road and walk 10min to the library. Quiet neighborhood. The openness of the house makes you want to stay, if you ever dreamed of owning a beach home, this is what it would be like in every aspect. Hopefully we will be booking again for many years to come. Amenities: beach wagon, Fishing poles, Shibu canopy, towels, cooler, beach chairs, baby high chair, pack in play, gas grill, fully equipped (you name it they got it) kitchen, and equipped pantry.

Quick baseball trip

We came to Oak Island for a quick baseball trip and tried to squeeze in as much fun as possible. Shelly’s place was just as described in the photos. After the hiccups of getting in, keypad battery was dead, the interior shared area was gorgeous. Very spacious and welcoming. The beds were comfy and the water pressure in the master shower was amazing. Loved having the baby equipment there already. Lots of beach equipment, although we didn’t use. A few downfalls/recommendations of my particular trip would be, make sure the exterior is maintained. The bushes along the sidewalk to get in were way overgrown and blocking, as well as the chairs were covered with debris. (I swept the chairs and trimmed the debris for our trip.)The key code didn’t work, but Shelly was very responsive and helpful in my call. We never could find the kitchen light or the master bedroom light. Not sure if they were burnt out or we didn’t see the switch. Also, the interior was “clean”, but unsure if deep cleaned. There was an entire bag of trash in the can under the sink, countertops weren’t clean and there were several dead bugs in the open areas. It was also 80 degrees when we arrived inside the house. Two of the bedroom floors felt unstable as entering.

Hi! I’m Shelley and I hope to have the opportunity to share our wonderful beach house with you soon.

Just before Covid hit we scheduled a trip to get to see the many beach towns on the NC coast. They’re all special in their own way but something about Oak Island captured our hearts and then when we walked into this home and we were sold!! We absolutely love the conveniences we have here…. We can walk to the beach in just a couple minutes, drop our kayaks and paddle boards in across the street and walk to so many great restaurants, wine bars and coffee shops.

By looking at our house from the outside, it may not look like much but when you walk in, it'll surprise you! It's a very bright, open floor-plan with high ceilings in the living area and has a floor-to-ceiling woodburning fireplace.... making it an amazing "get-away" even in the winter months.
