Stay at The White Iron Heritage Haus , a Beautiful Vintage 1 bedroom cabin on the shore of White Iron Lake, In Ely, MN. White Iron Lake is fed by the Kiwishiwi river, enjoy exploring islands and river bed trails as well as the abundance of top of the world lake fishing, catching Walleye, Northern Pike and Crappie (there is a boat dock and lake access) ... coming together of family time is easy to have with the lack of walls found in the open floor plan of of this cute cabin. There is the creature comforts of running water, full kitchen with a dining area, bathroom, one queen bed and two twin beds. Enjoy a fire in the fire place while kicking back after a long day of enjoying the out doors or the culture of Ely in the summer.

quaint log cabin. Beautiful scenery, calm, quiet relaxing atmosphere.Convection oven is small so would plan on grilling most meals. Well water was excellent.

Nice cabin that was pet friendly. Had anything you needed to survive. Mosquitoes and nats were nasty but that was anywhere you would go end of May. Jeff and his dog very welcoming and friendly!!

The cabin was quaint and charming and had excellent reading material despite the low light. The bed was super comfortable which provided us a good night sleep since our days were full either kayaking or walking trails. I do wish the host communicated better. It didn’t matter if I texted him directly or through the VRBO app, he didn’t respond. To connect I had to call him directly. And lastly, without the oven working properly, the grill is your main cooking source which is a pain to cook on due to only half the grill working properly. Besides those couple of nuisances, we would definitely go back. And his dog is gentle and very cool!

Nice cabin in a quiet and peaceful location. Perfect size for a couple. We had 2 small children, so there wasnt much extra space but it worked just fine. Host did an excellent job making sure we were taken care of.

There were many things we loved about the property. It's quiet, secluded, and the fishing once we found our "place" was great for smallmouth bass. The weather the week we were there was excellent as well which helped a lot. Jeff was kind and courteous and helpful and let us use his personal childhood canoe so we didn't have to lug ours along with us from Iowa. As far as the cabin, it is unique. We found it to be a bit too crowded and some of the wildflower bouquets had a bit of a scent to them and were too large for the small cabin space. There are many antiques and artifacts so I did feel a bit like I was in a museum and that almost museum like smell might bother sensitive folks. I'm fairly sensitive, but I managed to do okay. I prefer natural smells to the plug in chemicals any day and there were no artificial plug ins. On the last day a visitor joined us in the form of a rather plump little mouse which creeps most people out and did me as well but what are you going to do? Set mouse traps perhaps? Mice like to do that in fall--come in and get out of the cold. I notice a bit of some kind of bleachy cleaner smell when we were checking in as he was finishing up the kitchen cleaning. I did find the stock of pans and dishes to be very adequate. I prefer cast iron and stainless steel to teflon/nonstick, and those we had for our fish fry. Yay! All that to say, we would consider a repeat trip as we enjoyed the quiet of the lake and the fishing was fun and plentiful!!

Cabin was clean, very comfortable, well stocked dry birch firewood, and the ambiance was perfect for my stay. The VRBO posted price per night noted that all fees were included in the price.

We really enjoyed our stay. Loved the peace and quiet and general lack of people around us. Loved hearing the loons. Fishing off the dock was great! Quaint cabin, well furnished and very clean. Thanks Jeff!

Life long Ely recreational resident. Family bought property on White Iron Lake in 1962 and have been privileged to enjoy summers and winter vacations all the years since. No other place in the world I'd rather be. That said, have had a Illinois drivers license since I started driving, and have lived in Evanston Illinois the past 32 years. When am I moving to Ely? It's a process, I'm working on it.

Por qué eligió esta propiedad

Started living on an island. Problem is the winter freeze and spring thaw, hard to operate at those times. When fate allowed this property came my way, it was unimproved, no road, no well, no buildings, but a sweet location with lake and Bear Island River frontage and plenty of acreage. Now that the infrastructure is all there life is good.

Qué distingue a esta propiedad

Heritage Haus was built in the early 1920's by Finnish log builders hewn from tamarack logs fell on site. It was one of several cabins at Burley's Fish Camp Resort a mile or so up the shore. We dismantled, moved, and rebuilt it at the present location. As a youngster I remember getting minnows and night crawlers from the old bait house, and then a cold 7UP at the main lodge from Grandma Burley herself. Heritage Haus has served as a guest cabin for our Heritage Villa next door. It is my favorite place to stay.
