8 Minnesota Stays for the Adventurous Soul
This lovely yurt is a fabric tent with wood ray ceiling structure and folding lattice wall structure that give the very enclosure a calming restful effect. Situated up the hill in the woods from Armstrong Lake, the yurt offers privacy and seclusion with full lake access. There are two fully separate bedrooms with queen beds and a sleeping loft with twin beds A huge dining table offers space for wonderful meals and card & board games, projects and crafts. A wood stove can provide ample heat for those cold spring or fall evenings or the dead of winter. A wonderful site for a quilting gathering or a yoga retreat. The full kitchen has a sink with cold water cooler (to be filled from outdoor spigot), a refrigerator, a stove with oven, a microwave oven, a toaster and a coffeemaker. Hot water showers, lavatory sinks, and latrine toilets are down the hill in the bathhouse. Like our other cabins at Wilderness Wind, the Eagle Yurt does NOT have a toilet. The shared living and dining area has two sofas a large dining table and 8 chairs to accommodate meetings and gatherings and there is a wood stove for heat or atmosphere. A deck offers a view of the lake and slivers of sunset light thru the trees. Yurt guests have full lake privileges including use of canoes, kayaks, the lakeshore swimming and seating area, the lakeshore firepit for bonfires. There is a Chickadee gathering space down by the lake for meetings, sing alongs, exercise classes, sewing groups, group gatherings that can be rented additionally (or used freely if not already in use by a group). It has tables and chairs and awesome views in all directions of the lake and the surrounding woods. The yurt is large enough to sleep six on beds. There is one parking space up the hill from the yurt on Bradach rd. Additional parking available down the access road near the cabins. It it is also warm and intimate enough to be comfortable for a couple of couples, as a romantic luxury but rustic getaway for a honeymoon or anniversary couple, or even for a single person who wants to experience the respite and unearthly glow of a canvas yurt and its geometric structure as the light changes with the time of day and the weather. The Eagle Yurt is like nowhere you have ever stayed before!

Wilderness Wind is owned and operated by Chicago Voyagers, a nonprofit that provides outdoor active experiences to urban youth that would not otherwise have access to such opportunities. Youth participate in biking, hiking, rock climbing, camping, and river and lake canoe paddling trips. Included are trips into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness that include wilderness canoeing, portaging, outdoor meal preparation, camping, navigation, and appreciation of the unique habitats of the BWCAW. Kids develop self confidence and are specifically taught leadership and teamwork skills. Your stay at our beautiful yurt helps support these programs for Chicago Voyagers kids! Thanks!
Por qué eligió esta propiedad
Staying at our rustic yurt offers guests a chance to experience the same flora and fauna of the Boundary Waters that the youth participants experience but with the comfort of comfortable beds, kitchens, a composting toilet, and nearby hot showers in the bath house. Guests can paddle canoes on the lake and enjoy a campfire, hear the call of loons, enjoy sunsets over the water, and in doing so, feel a little closer to our natural world.
The canvas walls of the yurt and the radial roof supports and crisscross lath support of the walls are beautiful both night and day. The ivory canvas seems to glow on a sunny day, and whatever the conditions, the mood inside changes as the light outside changes. You'll want to get out into nature, but staying inside this fantastic structure is pretty wonderful too!

Qué distingue a esta propiedad
Rustic log cabins, this beautiful yurt, secluded site, proximity to Lake Armstrong shoreline, lake access for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, proximity to BWCAW and Mesabi Trail, sunset views, naturalistic landscaping, quiet respite to connect with nature.
One of the greatest things about Wilderness Wind is the peace and quiet of the local environment. People come to Wilderness Wind to get away from the noise of the city and to be close to nature.
From a recently published book by our neighbor to the north of us, David Okerlund:
“What makes our refuge so special is its solitude. At night the sky is crystal clear, and the only sounds you may hear is the crackle of your fire, an occasional forlorn call from a loon to its mate, and an even more entrancing high pitched wail of a grey wolf. Each sound we consider to be a priceless experience”.
We agree completely with David and others who have worked hard to build a quiet community here on Lake Armstrong. We would like everyone who visits us to experience this slice of solitude too.
Therefore, we ask that you do your part to keep Wilderness Wind quiet. Don’t bring your jetski or your bass boat with 300 hp engine. A small engine on your fishing boat is of course fine. Kids should make noise (or they wouldn’t be kids!) so we’re not trying to stifle fun but we do want everyone to respect the quiet that emerges at the end of every day for all to enjoy.
