Bass Lake is a beautiful 100 acre all sports Lake -- If you're looking for a quaint inland spring fed lake where the only noise you'll hear is the sound of your families laughter... You've found it! We're not the busy larger lakes with all the jet skis, boats ... we're the family friendly place where you spend time together and enjoy this beautiful 3 bedroom 1 bathroom cottage.

Come stay in this beautiful Northern Michigan cottage that is located on beautiful Bass Lake, a hidden gem in the heart of Northern Michigan. You will have one of the most memorable times of your life. This unique home has all of the amenities for your enjoyment and comfortable stay. With an open floor plan, views of the lake and outdoors through every window. You’re on the lake with a large sandy beach, lots of the water toys for the kids and a raft with a slide. Sit at the end of the long dock and dip your feet into the water, enjoy sunrises and sunsets, just relax and take in nature. When the evening comes lay on the end of the dock and look to the sky for an amazing view of never ending stars that will take your breath away. Listen to the loons and observe wildlife in their environment. You will relax and leave your busy life at home. Remember, Summer Memories Last Forever :)


Amenities: You’ll enjoy this Northern Michigan paradise from early morning walks, to playing in the lake, to relaxing in the evening. This northern beauty sleep 7, linens provided washer/dryer, iron and board, outdoor clothes line, air conditioning, TV, DVD, , stereo with indoor/outdoor speakers and wireless Internet. The kitchen is fully equipped, outdoor cooking utensils and outdoor grill. Patio table seats 8 and plenty of extra chairs.

Local festivals include: Traverse City National Cherry Festival July 4 - July 11 2026 -- Leland Wine & Food Festival June 2026, Great Lakes Equestrian festival July - August 2026 TBD, Cotton Creek Farm Alpaca Tours, as well as a variety of other local festivals. Try touring local award winning wineries such as; St Ambrose Cellars, Black Star Farms, French Valley Vineyard, Ciccone Vineyard, Leelanau Wine Cellars, Mari Vineyards, Chateau Grand Traverse, Brys Estate Vineyard & Winery, 2 Lads Winery, and MANY more all offering wine tasting of the local harvest. There are also great live top name performers at Interlochen Center of the Arts and in the casinos.

Other outdoor activities: We are 30 beautiful scenic miles from Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake shore that was voted 'Americas Most Beautiful Place' by ABC Good Morning America. Canoeing or tubing down one of the pristine rivers. Try reeling in a large King Salmon or other game fish while charter fishing at one of the local harbors on the great lakes. Many trails close by to hike or mountain bike. As the season changes come and enjoy the variety of activities available. We're only minutes away to great downhill skiing , or just out the door for miles of cross country skiing. The property is great, no complaints. The location right on the lake can’t be beat. We visited a lot of areas in that part of the state and the property was in a great location to come back to. Would absolutely book this place again. Many thanks to the owners/hosts.

Christine was a great host and the Hidden Gem was a really nice getaway for our family. The kids enjoyed playing in the lake and getting away from the "real world." Everything was comfortable and well maintained.

The cottage was clean and well kept, but the real gem of this cottage was the outdoor space. Our kids adored fishing on the lake night and day, and we loved the quiet, relaxing atmosphere. The cottage is also in a great location to act as a jumping off point for other side adventures. We had a great week here and absolutely would come back.

We really enjoyed our stay. The house was immaculate, and the host was very responsive and easy to communicate with. The lake was great, and we caught lots of fish. We also enjoyed the paddle boat, the slide, and relaxing in the hot tub. The location was perfect for exploring Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. We would definitely stay here again.

Awesome Get Away!

Hidden Gem was one of the cleanest vacation rentals we have ever stayed at. The cottage was cozy and relaxing...the outside patio and beach area was spectacular. We loved this place and the boys had a great time swimming, fishing and using the paddle boat. It was truly a great vacation!!

Perfect family cottage

This cottage is the best we have rented. Plenty of space for a family of 7. The kids loved the lake and the hot tub and we were able to rent a seadoo very easily with drop off and pick up. The owners are amazing and very responsive to our questions. This is the perfect summer getaway - look no further!

Excellent place for fun and relaxation!

The home is immaculate and surrounding property is great. Great amenities with the hot tub, paddle and row boats, beach area and floating raft. Easy drive to get to Traverse City and many of the other area attractions. The lake is beautiful and very peaceful - not overpopulated and very quiet especially during the week. Would highly recommend to others.

Wonderful Vacation Rental

Really enjoyed staying in this Cottage. It was very clean and had everything we needed for the week. From towels to plenty of firewood! We enjoyed having a boat and paddle boat to fish or cruise around the lake. Nearby is Traverse City a nice town to explore. A must see is Sleeping Bear Dunes and Pierce Scenic Driving tour. Wonderful Trip!

Amazing

We are so glad we found the Hidden Gem Cottage on Bass Lake! The property is even better than the pictures show and so many amenities are provided. It is clear the owners truly care that guests have a great experience. The lake is so quiet and relaxing, and our kids had a blast on the water slide, paddle boat, in the sand, etc. This was the perfect getaway for our family of four.

Excellent Family Vacation!

We stayed here in August 2024 and have a wonderful time. The property was well maintained and very clean. The property had plenty of amenities. We were so pleased with owners communication and helpfulness. They literally had everything we needed from towels, firewood, utensils, water toys, and outdoor furniture. They had really covered their bases! We would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful vacation!

This was our third time to visit this property. It is a very special place--always immaculate. The owner is alwaysdoing something to improve the property. Two years ago they added something special to the property with an extension of the patio to include a firepit which we enjoyed every night. The house is located on a small quiet lake. We rented a pontoon boat and the kids loved tubing! I am sure we will return,

Wonderful!

This will be our third year staying and we can't say enough good things about the property or the owners. I hesitate to write this review only because I want to keep it OUR secret. But the owners deserve all the praise they have earned. My kids call it "our cottage"- it feels like home.,

Loved it!

The cottage was exactly as described and by far, the cleanest rental I have stayed in. Our son (5) and daughter (2) had a great time catching minnows, fishing, using the paddle boat and playing on the beach. Christine and Mike were great hosts and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a rental in northern MI. We hope to return!

Great lake house

Great lake house with plenty of lake toys to play with. Quite lake to avoid the business of peak season in Traverse City, but not a bad drive in town when needed. Nice having three bed rooms with larger room being loft room. Only have one window AC unit in the loft room, but plenty of fans provided by property owners to help circulate air throughout the entire house.Only thing would mention is in regards to families with infants, pack and play would be very tight to fit in the lower two bedrooms, so we stuck with the baby in the loft with my wife. Baby gate was available which was helpful.

Wonderful, relaxing vacation

My husband and I and our 2 kids (9 and 10 years old) had a great vacation at the Hidden Gem! The house and property are extremely well maintained and spotlessly clean. The kids loved everything about the lake! The slide, the boats, the beach! And we loved having a fire and s'mores every night. We also had a great time going to Mackinac Island for a day, Sleeping Bear dunes for a day, and to a Traverse City Beach Bums game. My kids said this vacation tied with a Disney vacation! Christine was great to work with and quickly responded to any questions.We could not have been happier! Highly recommend it!

Relax in northern Michigan

Property was immaculate!! Cleanest VRBO we have ever rented. The location was perfect. House is on small Very quiet lake with lots of water toys plus a wonderful swimming dock with a slide. Very peaceful and quiet. Wonderful time even with not so great weather. We are planning on reserving again in 2023. Owner very pleasant and helpful. 5 stars all around!!!!! We rented pontoon boat from Eric at Break n Waves (second year). He is wonderful to deal with--timely and courteous. Boat in beautiful condition. Highly recommend!!

The Ultimate place to be! ;)

Ok, so if you want it all, this is the spot people! Great place, great amenities, beautiful location on the Bass lake, and super clean. The owners are truly kind people, and were very responsive to our needs, not that we needed anything. I caught fish within an hour, while grilling my steak, and sipping a nice cab. In my mind, after viewing all other rentals, I would make life easy, and just stay here whenever I make it back to Michigan in the future. No kidding, it's that awesome! Experience it for yourselves all! Make this your place when visiting Interlochen. Trust me," I'll be back" Ha!

Best Rental we have had so far!

The property was as listed or better. Very clean and it this was not just a cottage but really felt like a well maintained home. Christine and Michael are the most gracious hosts. All the little extra touches they did to make us feel welcome and we surely did! They go above and beyond and not just your normal rental. It was one of the most peaceful and relaxing vacations I have been on. Buds was fun, played putt putt across the street. I am not much of a tourist attraction type person but in Traverse City SlabTown was the best burger place by far and if you are looking some delicious ice cream going to Moomers farm was a treat. A little trip to Leelanau was also fun for me and my hubby to get away from the kids. Truely is a Hidden Gem! One I would revisit time and again.

Relaxing Getaway on Perfect Lake

The property is quaint and was conducive to my family relaxing together from the hot tub to the outdoor dining area to the living room/kitchen area to the beach chairs. The best feature though is the new fire pit area that sits raised and overlooking the lake. So relaxing. The lake is not huge which we love because it means very little boat traffic. During the weekdays it was like having our own lake where we used paddle boards (rented), floated in tubes, roamed in the paddleboat, or just swimming. The property is close to town for food runs or a quick bite. The bike riding options are plentiful. A nice 18 hole public golf course is less than 10 minutes away. Traverse City in 30 minutes. Sleeping Bear Dunes in less than 40 min. Everything you need from this central access point. Book it and relax.

Clean, Cute, and Private

Hidden Gem was a great home. It was super clean. The bed up stairs was comfortable. There was a window air conditioner that we ran all night. The kids loved their rooms. There are nice size dresses with a little clothes rod next to them. We don’t being a lot to the lake, so there is enough space for our clothes. I loved that there was water provided, thoughtful touch. The few suggestions I would make for fellow travelers is to bring mosquito spray!! I learned from other experiences. I brought a natural fogger and repellent device. The fire doesn’t keep them away. They do have tiki torches, if you bring the fluid. It makes is so much more enjoyable sitting outside. Another traveler suggested “water shoes”. I read it too late and didn’t bring them. They would be super helpful at this lake. There is a great metal sand rake that we used to clear the water area a few times! That was nice. Great vacation, thank you!

We’re so glad you had a nice time. We try very hard to provide little touches to make your stay more comfortable. The cottage is in the woods and unfortunately mother nature supplies her little touches as well. We do spray for mosquitoes, but we had received a lot of rain which does promote active insects. We supply bug spray and sunscreen which is in the basket in the shed as well as an assortment of sizes of water shoes as a just in case you forget yours. I’m so sorry I had not pointed those out to you during your stay, I truly apologize for that! Thank you again for the kind words. Have a wonderful “rest of the” summer :)

Good - Not Great

The experience overall was positive. Both Christine and her husband were responsive thorough-out and helpful. The cottage came with some essentials, like lots of kids toys, a couple boats, a washer-dryer, towels, and beach toys. There is also a great fire pit and plenty of firewood. There were some drawbacks. The two proper bedrooms have little ventilation, the ladder on at least one of the bunk beds was loose, and the tall dresser in one of the rooms is not fastened to the wall - things to have on your radar if your kids are young. The third bedroom is a loft, which is not clear from the listing. There are anthills in the yard and a beehive hanging over the beach so we spent more time away from the house than planned (hopefully that has been removed). Finally, when we left, we were charged an additional sum for damages and additional cleaning. Some of it may be fair, since our young ones did get some crayon on things when were packing up (we are sorry). However, the rest seemed like nitpicking to justify the exorbitant charge, such as leaving dirty dishes on the counter (which was inaccurate — they were clean and there is no dishwasher), a broken water cooler (only the cold water button was working on arrival), and dinging us for leaving beach towels stacked outside when there are no checkout instructions. In short, it was fair for the owner to charge us for the crayons but just be aware that they may charge you for extras if they’re annoyed.

I'm sorry you feel your stay was just "fair" we try very hard to make it comfortable for families. The cottage is in the woods, and Mother Nature does supply insects. We try to use environmentally friendly repellents and we do supply bug spray. Yes there is only one window in each lower room that is 2 'x 4' it does open very wide and is definitely accessible in case of emergency. We were unaware one of the bunkbed ladders had a loose rung, we would have addressed that right away if you would have brought it to our attention. Also, the listing does state that it has a loft bedroom, the room is easily accessible with a traditional staircase that has a queen size bed, I'm sorry for any confusion. I'm sorry you feel we were "nitpicking" but leaving firewood throughout the yard, leaving the counter full of dirty dishes, greasy pans on the stove and greasy pans put back in the cabinet that left grease rings in the cabinet, leaving bags of trash in the middle kitchen floor leaking, isn't nitpicking, thats disrespectful. The water cooler valve was broken off when water bottle was taken off, it was still in the empty water bottle left outside. There are checkout instructions in the book that is left on the table, as well as instructions when the reservation is made. In 13 years of families enjoying our property, this is the first time we've ever had to charge anyone any portion of their deposit due to disrespectful use of our property.

My family and I had a great time staying at Hidden Gem. Even with less than ideal weather (high 60s-low 70s,rain, overcast, and some sun) we were able to still have fun on the property and go on many adventures around the Sleeping Bear / TC areas. Being a spring fed lake the water was quite cold, but didn’t stop my 7YO from utilizing the slide in the lake. My 3YO loved digging in the beach. We all enjoyed the hot tub very much, especially on cooler days. Love all the outside seating to take in the views and watch the loons. The fire pit area was a great area to relax during dusk and roast up some snacks.The property was extremely organized and clean. All the kitchen appliances, utensils, and dishes were right where you would expect and organized well. We utilized the grill twice which was also very clean upon arriving. All the bedding, towels, etc. were all clean and organized well too. Could get to TC in about 30min. We did day trips to Platte Point Beach, Elberta Beach, Beulah, and other areas around Sleeping Bear in less than 45min. Because of the unpredictable mid June weather, we did a lot of excursions. Favorite adventures 45min were renting bikes at River Outfitters in TC and biking to Clinch Park, Platte Point Beach, spent a rainy morning at Cognition in Beulah (fun kids hands on museum w/ lots of animals to hold) then had lunch/drinks at St.Ambrose Meadery. Christine & Mike we’re both kind, helpful, and great host. We hope visit again when it’s warmer
