Nathans Cottage Lower - Bottom floor duplex next to Oceanic Pier

The lower half of the Nathans Cottage duplex is 3 bedroom / 2 bath unit with 2 queens, a full, and a twin. The unit has a flat screen TV in the living room, central air and updated kitchens with granite counter tops. The outside shower with hot and cold water is a great way to wash off the sand after a day on the beach. There is washer/dryer on the back porch that is shared between both units. The location of this cottage has all of your vacation needs within walking distance. It is a one mile walk to downtown Wrightsville Beach, where you will find a grocery store, beach rentals, restaurants and more.

A few steps out of the front door you will find yourself at the Oceanic Restaurant. The restaurant is part of the old Crystal Pier with outside dining and live music. Across the street from the cottage is South End Surf Shop, with paddle board and bicycle rentals, in addition to clothes and sun screen. Sundays coffee shop is located above the surf shop. Take your laptop and enjoy a brew with a view of the Atlantic ocean and east coast surfing. Buy a t-shirt, coffee mug, etc. because you’ll want to remember this iconic spot. Walking on the South end is the best. Be sure to have your camera with you when walking south because you will see the bird sanctuary and inlet. If you like to fish you’re in luck because there is fishing from the pier and surf fishing near the inlet.

Location is the most redeeming quality

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We were absolutely thrilled to be able to get a cottage close to the beach and cone block where our friends were staying so we could visit. Location was everything for us. Don’t get me wrong, I live for old houses and have worked in historic preservation for a long time. I do not expect things to be perfect with older architecture rentals but some details (common sense details) cannot be overlooked. The vent cover on the microwave was missing. the baseboards and one of the bathrooms were rotting. You could see I light underneath the front door where air-conditioning was escaping. The air return duct in the hallway was filthy, covered in rust, dust and mildew. The corner queen bed was very uncomfortable and VERY noisy. There were at least 12 hooks in one bathroom for towels and clothes but very few in the second bath and none in the bedrooms. The showers showed of aged mildew. Why did I not call as soon as I noticed? Because once I’m on vacation I really don’t want to be bothered with having to clean up what was supposed to already have been done. Most of these things would have required serious attention and we only wanted to be able to enjoy the space privately without service crews coming in. Is it up to the rental agency or the owners to provide some sort of quality integrity of the space that you are staying in? I don’t know but I would like to think that these are some things that would stand out and leave a blemish on the agency, the owner and the location. Of course I can go stay in a hotel but I would prefer a house. But I would also prefer the small details like the nasty air return duct be on anyone’s radar for repair. This location is priceless and all of the details that I mentioned above could so easily be taken care of but, like many owners and agencies it’s not about presenting well as much as it is about cashing in. I would encourage the owners and the agency to attend to so many small details that

Not what the photos would have you believe.

Rating Details: The property manager was somewhat unhelpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This place is far different than what the idyllic photos of a cottage on the beach would have you believe. But I guess because of the location, intracoastal and the owners felt justified in charging an extortionate rate despite the embarrassing condition of the place. It’s on the verge of falling apart, doors can barely close and lock, blinds missing, holes in the walls, dead roaches on the floor, dirty mattress covers, loud squeaking uncomfortable beds, crooked floors and walls, loud air conditioning with rusty vents, rusty old washing machine that barely works, the list goes on and on. Also had extremely noisy upstairs neighbors with kids running around during the duration of our stay. Walls are thin and you can her everything. Intracoastal did little to address our concerns besides offering to replace a dirty mattress pad. Beware of signing such long contracts to get trapped in this place with no guarantee of getting your money back in case of cancellation. Definitely would not recommend this place unless there was a total overhaul and remodeling. Only good thing was the location.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We enjoyed Nathan’s Cottage Lower. It had a quick beach access and close access to the Oceanic Restaurant on the near by pier. We also enjoyed close access to local businesses.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The lower cottage was less than perfect. Doors that don’t seal, floors slant to one side in the hallways, place sleeps 6 but you can only seat 4 people at the table. Linens and kitchen wares supplied, but only 1 fork and 1 bowl. 4 broken bikes and some rusty beach chairs on the side of the house. The location was good, but the place needs attention.
