Great place to stay, especially with three kids. Everyone got to have their own room and there are plenty of chairs and loveseats for everyone to find a place to chill. We stayed during freezing days and nights, and everyone stayed comfortable with the copious baseboard heating and thermostats in every room.

Wonderful stay

We really enjoyed our stay at this property. It is in a great location and was so cozy. We got lucky with some mild weather in March and took advantage of the balcony with beautiful views of the river. And the gas fireplace was great for warming us up in the mornings. Lots of cute little areas to sit and also to work. The main living area has big comfortable chairs and a nice corner dining table. Communication with owner was superb and check-in and out process very simple. Would definitely recommend staying here!!

Cozy, Charming & Convenient

We absolutely loved our stay in this beautiful, historic home! From the moment we booked, Vince was communicative and so easy to work with. Checking in was a breeze and the home is very well appointed. While the home has maintained so much original charm, it is also outfitted with all the modern conveniences you’d expect, including an extremely effective heating system. We had plenty of room for our family to spread out and everyone enjoyed comfortable sleeping spaces. The area is absolutely gorgeous and we had a blast exploring. Don’t miss Galette Castle or the Goodspeed Opera House. We were lucky enough to catch a show there! There are absolutely adorable shops nearby and fantastic restaurants. Our favorites were the River Tavern and the newly renovated Brushmill in nearby Chester. You will not be disappointed with this truly remarkable home.

Erica, Thank you for leaving a review. You and your family were perfect guests. I'm glad you enjoyed the house. And I'm thrilled to hear you went to the Goodspeed to see their Christmas in Connecticut show. I'm very tempted to go up just for the show! And maybe some holiday snow. :-) Best, Lance

Beautiful comfortable historic house overlooking the Connecticut River

I felt like I was in a painting from the American impressionist school at the nearby Florence Griswold Museum each day in I was here. The gorgeous antique house is right over the swing bridge and situated high up with incredible Connecticut River views. The house is welcoming and so comfortable and the owner is super responsive to any requests or questions. It was so much fun exploring the big property with my dog. The house is old but has super fast WiFi internet which I need for work. The kitchen is beautifully equipped with a gas stove dishwasher and everything you need to cook. Having two bathrooms and a really nice laundry room too is super convenient. The bedrooms were so comfortable with views of the river and nice beds. It was just amazing and magical and relaxing and I enjoyed my stay so much I am already planning to return again. Do not hesitate to book this comfortable beautiful exceptional property it is so much nicer than the most luxurious hotel!

Even More Than Expected

Beyond our fondest wish, this 4-bedroom and beautifully landscaped location has it all. Clean and well-equipped / supplied, with a very cozy gas fireplace, easy to operate and fitting in style to the decor of the home. A surprise salon is bathed in sunlight with two porches and technically speaking outdoor access was available through 5 doors, 3 easily accessible. The river view was as beautiful as a postcard and out to the back was over an acre of wooded maple trees sloping up to a huge cliff rock. Kitchen complete with gourmet gas stove, huge refrigerator, and a dishwasher. 3 tables for dining, including a formal dining room, complete with cloth napkins. Really nicely thought out and fun. Washer and dryer in basement and brick patio for BBQ. Another surprise was the studio-workshop halfway up the hill with room to dance and play, if not actually create (complete with drafting table). For us it was a perfect fit and would be for families and friends. Almost like stepping back in time.

Riverside CT Country Getaway

This updated 1852 house along the Connecticut river was an ideal place to spend some time with our college student daughter. It’s away from the rat race, but it’s not isolated. It’s on an occasionally busy road that parallels the Connecticut river. The house has a great view of sunsets across the river. The house is roomy and the kitchen is a real plus, with a nice propane range. There’s a great local grocer across the river in Haddam, and bigger chain groceries nearby. There are three different sitting rooms, which means plenty of space to spread out. The house is a mix of new and old. Expect things like door handles, floor boards, windows, and stairs to be period. HVAC is an add-on., with window unit air conditioning in the summer. But there’s plenty of hot water, laundry, and good Internet/WiFi/cable. It’s a great place for us to stay. That the current owner, who’s an awesome, highly responsive host, bought the place after staying in it, tells you all you need to know.

lovely, antique house

Very nice, beautiful wide hardwood floors. Some comfortable furniture and a bit of view of the CT River (what looks like a large deck is a roof, by the way). Not for people with difficulty with stairs--the house is a typical antique with narrow steep stairs. Fine for us but not for all. Lovely host interaction and the house has most of what you will want or need. beautiful area and lots of great state parks for hiking nearby.

Andre, I’m glad you and your wife enjoyed your working vacation at the house for the month of August. Thank you for being the perfect guests and keeping me informed about the storm damage from Isaias. I’m glad the whole house generator kicked in and kept you fully powered until the electric company could restore the electricity. You’re welcome back anytime. Best, Lance

Lovely spot

We rented this house for a long weekend to spend time with our children and grandkids and to revisit our ‘old stomping grounds’ near the CT river. The house was perfect....amazing views of the river. Well equipped and plenty of room for us to be together.would stay again as location was convenient to shoreline and Essex area attractions.

Cute CT Getaway

The house is adorable! The views are great, and it's about a half mile from the main part of town, some really cute restaurants and shops. There's lots of space, and the sitting room has a great view of the river. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great most of the time I was there, but obviously can't hold that against the house! I wish I had been able to have the windows open more and enjoy the breeze in the sitting room. I was in town for a wedding that was 10 minutes away, I would highly recommend this house to anyone needing a spot in town!

Felt right at home!

Perfect house, perfect location. As a kid growing up in Middlesex County I remembered passing the Goodspeed Opera House and the old swing bridge between Haddam and East Haddam and thinking this has to be an ideal location. The house is situated less than half a mile from the village with the bridge and the opera house, within the historic district, overlooking the Connecticut River. It is well appointed and Christine and Luke are very friendly and helpful. I plan to stay there again on my future trips home to Connecticut.

Fabulous spring trip!

The house was exactly what I was hoping for. It was perfect for an intimate bridal brunch. The porch in the morning and evening were beautiful with the Connecticut river peeking through the trees and the birds visiting daily to serenade me. The town is so adorable. Higher Grounds is a coffee café that I highly recommend. We had family activities but made sure to visit Gillette's Castle. The kitchen was well supplied and there is plenty of nooks and crannies in the house to curl up with a good book, which they had shelves of! Highly recommend in early June. The weather was that perfect cool mornings and evenings, and great temps during the day.
