Rumples Retreat at Highland Hideaways - Arcade - Private Drive-in Theater

Rumple's Retreat is a cozy 2 story log cabin with open loft. Wilson Creek runs through the property perfect for trout fishing, or sitting back on the porch listening to the sounds of the rushing water.

2 Queen beds and a couch, with a full kitchen and bath. Complimentary coffee, warm towels, toilet paper, paper towels, body wash, shampoo, and dishwasher/laundry detergent are provided.

Our property is gently nestled up against the mountains of Mount Rogers National Recreation Area. Located only 2 miles from Grayson Highlands State Park main entrance, we also have a trail leading into it the park behind the cabin at the far back of the property following the creek. A pass to gain free entry into the park for one vehicle is provided with your stay.

Enjoy the great outdoors, fish the stocked river running through the property, bike the Creeper Trail, hike Mount Rogers, kayak the New River, or drive up to Mt Rogers for some sightseeing.

High Speed wireless internet is available indoors and outdoors across the entire 10 acre property.

Streaming Service including Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, and Disney Plus, with a large selection of DVD and VHS movies are available.

RV/EV Outdoor Plug Outlet (14-50 Outlet, if you have an EV bring your charger)

Multiple Smart Speakers located through the cabin to play music on request.

Smart Cabin:
Upon arrival you can issue a check-in voice command to take the cabin off of away mode.

Enjoy our ever growing selection of puzzles, cards, and board games from our game shelf.

Fresh linens, Toilet Paper, Towels, and shampoo/soap are provided. Washer & Dryer with soap provided for extended stays.

Bring quarters for the community arcade located next to Rumples Retreat! It is available to all guests at Highland Hideaways. The arcade features 4 FREE-TO-PLAY Multi-cades, a claw machine, juke box, dart board, karaoke, and an Air-Hockey Table. The vending machines are stocked with a variety snacks and drinks!

~~~Outdoor Drive-in Theater~~~
Private to Rumple's Retreat the drive-in plays a new movie every night, and its easy as tuning into the radio station, and pressing a button to begin the screening. Check our website for the list of movies.

~~Disc Golf Course~~
We have a 3 hole glow in dark disc golf course (see photos) that spans the property, the glowing baskets and glow in the dark discs make playing at night a blast!

Firewood is available for purchase next to the Arcade.

Spring Hideaway

We had a great stay. This would be a wonderful property for a group or family to rent all the cabins at once. Loved how close to Grayson Highlands State Park we were!

Fun Tiny Cabin

We really enjoyed the beautiful tiny cabin and it's proximity to Grayson Highlands. The cabin was well equipped and had a great sunrise view. The short walk to the stream was nice, too.

Mountain getaway

The perfect little cabin for our mountain getaway! Very clean, comfortable and cozy. We will definitely be back! We enjoyed walks to the creek , the arcade and being able to use the kayaks was great !

Hiking the AT

This is a great location to section hike the AT. The State park is right down the road. The cabin was cozy and had all the kitchen needs for the meals that we cooked. Highly recommend staying here.

Great Stay

Really enjoyed our stay. My nephew and I went backpacking and my mom and sister stayed at the cabin. The last day my sister and nephew went home and I stayed one night in the cabin. Awesome place!

Deep into Virginia

The place has all that is needed except for: a comfortable mattress in the main bedroom, a can opener that works, and unbroken sturdy firepit chairs. We were very close to fun creeks and parks to explore, so we did. And It was nice to rest in a cool place after a full day of fun in the summer heat.

Amazing place for rest after hiking

We used the cabin as our base for a hiking / bouldering experience with the multiple options within minutes all around. Great set up for the three of us. All the little things we needed in the kitchen and so many things to make the stay super enjoyable and comfortable. Plenty of space to lounge and stretch out after long days of hiking.

Enjoyed the stay

The cabin was very clean and well maintained. The description provided is accurate. It is located a short distance from Grayson State Park and I highly recommend taking the time to explore. The community arcade was a fun little way to keep busy while at the cabin. Overall it was a great experience! I would recommend this cabin to others and will be visiting again.

Spring Break 2023

Perfect place for Spring Break with our 9 and 11yos and dog :) The cabin was fantastic and so close the Grayson Highlands for hiking and the Virginia Creeper Trail! Every one loved the arcade and drive in!

Peacefully perfect!

Cabin was cozy and very cute! Loved the porch and creek! Perfect for the sunrise! I thought my kids would love the arcade but it turns out that we ALL did! Great memories made! We plan to return for another great adventure!

Great for a long weekend getaway

Had a blast, enjoyed hiking Grayson Highlands State Park. The arcade was very cool unfortunately weren't able to check out the drive-in theater due to poor weather conditions. The only thing I wish I knew about ahead of time was the neighbors dog molly free roams all the adjacent homies from hers. My one dog isn't great with other female dogs but luckily my friend was their to help distract Molly when my pup needed to go outside or to leave with us.

It was one of the best family experiences we’ve had. The house in fact didn’t save an effort to provide comfort and convenience for their guests (us). The property has almost all possible amenities you would want. The idea of running it smart through the smart assistant (Alexa) made it very easy and convenient. Heater are everywhere there even a washer and a dryer. The arcade room is another story. It made the most fun for the whole family. I will really consider staying there again. Thank you so much.

We WILL be back...

Location, peaceful, relaxing, comfortable, all you could possiy need. We chose Rumple's Retreat at Highland Hideaways for our 2 week stay so we could visit 8 different state parks in SW VA. Since we camped near Natural Bridge and Lynchburg on both ends of the trip, we brought way too much. Really, a suitcase and a grocery store visit enroute is all you need. Oops, and a rocker for the front porch time; there is a table and chairs though. A couple of not such abig deal things about this beautiful cabin: - be patient with the door lock responding to unlock - morning in the summer comes around 5 to 6, due to the window coverings or not. The loft is really bright. We have a dog, so that was not much of a problem and on some mornings we wanted to be on the trail early. - Alexa sometimes talks with her mouth full, so she is difficult to understand or hear. - Water is delicious straight out of the tap. We were out too late or in bed too early to get the opportunity to use the fire pit or grill.

There was no communication regarding check in instructions prior and no one is on site when we got there. I could never get anyone to answer the phone at check in time. We followed all the suggestions and the place was never warm. Woke up all night freezing. No heat in the bathroom at all. Towels were very small and rough. The blinds in the bathroom had missing pieces as well as blinds in other windows. Therefore we didn’t feel at ease there. It’s January and it is cold of course and there was a thin bedspread on the loft bed. No extra blankets. Sheets were very cheap with lint all over them. Listed as an 2 bedroom but I don’t consider the loft being a bedroom. No door, no closet and no where to put your clothes away. Also very narrow spiral staircase. It’s very hard to take things up and down. They says it sleeps 8. There is only 2 beds and a couch. They list a fire pit as an amenity but was full of snow no one got it ready for guest and there were no chairs to even sit in. Lastly the arcade was accessible but most of the games were not even powered up and there was absolutely no heat in there so who would want to be in there anyway. Very disappointing experience. It was not worth the extra fees. Would have been better off at a hotel.

Short stay

Got away for a few days. Cabin very nice and clean. Very small but fine for the 2 of us. Nowhere to put your clothes except a hanger next to the bed. There is a dresser but it was full of other things. Bed was very comfortable. Everything was provided that we needed. Arcade was nice but mostly everything had a cost. We enjoyed the free air hockey😊 . Had a hard time locating the “drive in movie theater” but finally found the screen on the backside of the arcade. Might be a good idea to tell people exactly where it was located. Not sure we ever found the trout stream. We did find a nice little stream on the road to the right of the property but unsure if this was the place mentioned to fish. We went to the state park which was really lovely and also visited Abingdon and Wytheville. We saw a show at the Barter theater which was awesome. All in all a nice trip but unless you are an avid hiker, not much to do in this area.

Cozy Little Cabin

We stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed our stay at this cozy little cabin. It was simple to come in and let Alexa know we were checking in and she turned on the lights and adjusted the thermostat for us. We did need to adjust the thermostat a little higher and this caused a number on the front of the unit that is located up on the wall to blink constantly unless the unit itself was running. At night with the lights off that was very annoying and we needed to leave the bedroom door open so the heat could enter, you could see that bright light blinking from the other room. For this rental to be fairly new the downstairs bed is definitely not. The bed was very squeaky just getting in and out of it or rolling over in it. The mattress seemed to roll us both to the center of the bed as well. Definitely need an upgrade there. We loved the convenience of having a washer and dryer. The washer was small, but we were able to do several small loads, the downside is that the dryer is located UP the spiral staircase, and you have to get on the floor to put your clothes in and to see how it works. Would be great to find an alternative place for it. We visited the Grayson Highland State Park and we went and rode the Creeper Trail in Damascus. This cabin was a great location to both. For food, our first night we drove about 20 minutes to North Carolina to Pie on the Mountain for a pizza, at this time (April, 2021) they are not having dine in, so we placed our order, waited and walked across the road in the park. The only other place we ate at was at the Corner Market and Cafe. The food was great and the service was awesome (they are not open on Sunday, but said they are hoping to open on Sundays in May)! The General Store and Inn was open but was not offering food (Looks like they are trying to sell the entire business as there was a sign in the yard) For internet/TV usage you will find Hughes net, which is not the fastest. You will have some buffering while watch movies or trying to use the internet. The neighbor's dog and cat came over for a visit and some loving and we greatly enjoyed that. Overall, yes, this is a great place to stay and very affordable. Thanks for offering your place to us to stay.

Wonderful property, great host.

We booked the cabin for a few nights recently. The host contacted us on our way there that the power had been knocked out for the whole area by a wind storm. He met us at check in and brought us jugs of water and lantern, and offered to bring us extra blankets and anything else we needed. The power was back the next day and we got to fully enjoy the property. The cabin was fully stocked with everything we might need. And the onsite arcade was truly remarkable... the kids (and adults) loved it.

Weekend Getaway

We had a little rain but still had a blast and made some great memories. The cabin was very clean and we appreciated the amenities such as the game room that made the kids weekend when the weather went south. Tha ks again for the hospitality!

Located in the Blue Ridge Highlands of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Highland Hideaways is comfortably situated on the Virginia and North Carolina state line in Grayson County, VA. The Grayson Highlands are home to the highest peaks in Virginia. The Virginia Creeper Trail, New River, and Grayson Highlands State Park are all in close proximity to our property. Most of our cabins are within a short distance of each other. For larger groups, it is possible to rent multiple cabins together.

Highlands Hideaways has direct access to Grayson Highlands State park via the trailhead across the river, following Wilson creek you will see cascading waterfalls less than half a mile up the trail.

Por qué eligió esta propiedad

We bought this property as a vacation home to get away from busy day to day work life. I enjoy fishing the trout river next to the property, and hiking on and off the trails in the back of the property. The area is quaint, with a few local stores, Christmas tree/pumpkin farms sprinkled over the hilltops. The sound of the stream in front of the house can be heard from the porch.
