Jungle Bungalow - A lovely space to stay for island fun!

Jungle Bungalow is a lovely space to unwind and relax after a day of island fun. Located in Keaau on our Jungle Estate - two acres with 4 cottages - and close to many of the island's best adventures. Enjoy the privacy of Jungle Bungalow - a stand alone cottage with private patio and living amenities for up to 4 guests.

Our open living room and kitchen allow for ease of cooking, watching DVDs, reading or simply unwinding with the sounds of nature. The one bedroom has a Queen size bed and small closet with hangers. A pull out sofa in the living room provides additional sleeping space. We provide a few beach essentials including beach towels and chairs for your adventures. The bathroom has a walk-in shower, toilet and sink. A DVD player and a few movies are available for your entertainment on a small screen. The best feature is certainly the patio with table and chairs where you can view our colorful jungle garden and sounds of birds year round. There's a washer and dryer in the laundry closet for your convenience.

Our Jungle Estate is located in Keaau, Hawaii a short drive to Hilo, Volcanoes National Park, Isaac Hale Park (the site of dramatic new geological beaches from the 2018 eruption), waterfalls, hikes and other natural wonders. Once inside the Bungalow, you'll find a binder full of our local recommendations for outdoor adventures, restaurants, shopping and more.

Please be mindful of other guests at our Estate and follow local laws for Quiet Hours 9pm to 8am.

Overall this was a good place to stay for our intended plans. The management company was very communicative leading up to the trip and during our stay when anything was needed. The house was very clean, the environment peaceful, and had great proximity to the beaches and volcano. The only points to note are although this is listed as housing for 3-4 people, it's really best suited for two. Mostly because the kitchen isn't stocked for 3 people's worth of dishes (example: there are exactly 2 coffee mugs). It was a little difficult when we had three people staying here. Nothing unmanageable with appropriate expectations, which we had coming into the trip. The listing is accurate when it says it's minimal. This is a good rental with great proximity to the wonderful access to the beautiful areas around Hilo.

My guess is that things got moved around and we should have caught that. I wish we'd known - we would have brought more dishes right away. Quiet retreat

I totally enjoyed my 8 night stay. Clean and a nice homey set up for me. I was able to enjoy the island and come home to a very relaxing retreat!

Clean, quiet, secluded

This was a wonderful place! We enjoyed our stay. It was easy access to Hilo and Volcanoes National Park. It was new, clean, comfortable and thoughtfully decorated. The washer and dryer were nice. There wasn't an AC, but there were 3 floor fans and it cooled down nicely.

We do provide many items like TP and other sundries that ae enough to cover a short stay. They are all listed in your arrival instructions, along with a reminder that we do ask guetss to resupply themselves if they run out of the items we provide. We enjoyed a very relaxed stay at the Jungle Bungalow. Delighted in waking up to bird song in the morning and falling asleep to the sweet chirpping of frogs in the evening. Strolls along the calm neighborhood street and taking in the lush vegetation was enjoyed also. We did have to plan on at least a 20 minute drive to Hilo, let alone longer to other sites of interest, yet they always provided beautiful scenic views of the plants and trees abundant with life and gorgeous cloud formations over the mountains and coastline.

Great Experience

Very clean. Loved that there was a kitchen. It was everything the add describes. Driveway was a little hard to find at night. Didn’t know which cottage was our at first. Maybe some signs would be helpful. Other than that we were more than satisfied with stay.

Tropical retreat

The bungalow was quaint and lovely. Loved hearing the doves, frogs, roosters. There were bugs but that’s expected in this area. No A/C but with the fans and closing the curtains while we were gone during the day it kept the place cooler. They also provide extra fans if needed. The tap water tastes good. The lanai is very nice, the table inside is great too. For a couple or small family who intends to explore…this is a great place.

Clean but lacking essentials

Clean property and easy to find however the kitchen needs a revamp and the overall space could use some changes in furniture. No drawers in bathroom or bedroom even though there is plenty of space and the kitchen had zero pans to use in the provided oven.

Great place to sleep after exploring

The bed isn’t super comfortable but it is a bed and honestly it didn’t matter much, we were so tired. It felt so nice without the ac. The chickens never failed to make me smile in the morning. This home is definitely worth what we paid. Also, if you don’t want ants, make sure to do the dishes. We almost messed up on that one.

Perfect Fit for Couple

The property is true to listing. The jungle bungalow was a perfect fit for our (couple) 3 night stay. It’s a great size and beautifully decorated, also very clean, quiet, and private. The location is a bit off the beaten path, but is a solid home base. The unit does not have AC and it got quite warm during the day, but cools enough at night for sleeping. Owner provides a nice little guide book that was really helpful! Bungalow is well equipped with everything you may need. It’s about 25 minutes from Hilo, which can be a pain during rush hour it becomes more like 35-45 minutes. Regardless, there are tons of things to do in any direction from the bungalow. We would definitely stay again!

Great property at great price

Property was very nice. Clean and comfortable. Could have used some more shelves in bathroom and bedroom. Nowhere to put toiletries and clothes. Would have nice to have had an oven safe pan/dish for c use of the oven. And while I realize one x doesn't come to Hawaii to watch television, occasionally when it is pouring rain, or after a long day out, it'd be nice to watch some television on a larger screen. But all that is kind of nit-picking. It was a great rental and I'd be fortunate to return.

One month stay at Barefoot Bungalow

The location was conveniently located between the ocean, towns of Keaau and Pahoa, and not much further to Hilo. We were also less than an hour from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and beautiful tropical gardens north of Hilo. The bungalow was immaculately clean. We had great customer service from all the staff at Saltwater Hawaii. While we do wish there was laundry in the bungalow, there was a laundromat close by in Keeau. The property was very private from not only the public, but from the other guest homes on the property.

This cabin was OK. I don’t know how people could possibly stay here in the summer as it was very warm inside during the month of April.It really is in the middle of nowhere—we didn’t mind that so much as we were doing a lot of touring around the area, but it is something people should be aware of. And the coqui frogs, oh my God the frogs, they are very loud; bring earplugs if you want a chance of falling asleep. I was disappointed with the kitchen. When a listing specifically mentions a kitchen that is clean and highly rated I kind of have an expectation that it will be a great kitchen. Sure, it was clean, but it’s easy to have a clean kitchen when there’s nothing in it. This one was a good size but very limited with tools to make any kind of meal, other than just warming stuff up. The only frying pan they had was absolutely covered in grease, when I bought it to their attention they tried to tell me that it was just seasoned. This wasn’t seasoned, this was like it had been dipped in a bucket of Crisco. There was also only one coffee cup! That said, the caretaker did bring us a couple more frying pans and a coffee cup the next day after we mentioned it to them. As an example, we stayed in another place from a different platform after here, they had plastic wrap and reusable storage containers to keep leftovers, spices, mixing bowls, etc..It’s those little touches that make a great kitchen. Room for improvement for sure.

Lovely bungalow in nature

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This place was exactly what you dreamed of. It was raining during our 3-night stay, but we had a wonderful time staying at the bungalow. There was a gallon of welcome water in the fridge and were sufficient cooking essentials. It was rainy and cold at night. We requested an extra blanket which was brought soon after we requested it. There was a misunderstanding about the laundry facilities, but the owner promptly accommodate our request. Very cute and isolated bungalow, hence it's still close to Hilo /Volcano National Park.

Cute jungle bungalow

Our stay was short but nice at the bungalow. T he property was just as listed on vrbo. Small and quaint, perfect for four people Our only issue was being locked out of the gate on our last day and having to park outside. Communication with the property manager was unsuccessful by phone/text. They did issue a refund which was appreciated but would have rather not been locked out in the first place. We had to drag our luggage in the rain and haul over fence. They assured me communication would be improved for future guests so hope my experience can help.
