Update: The chapel is fully functional and welcoming guests following Helene!

Thomas Chapel was originally built in Watauga county near Tennessee in 1886 . decommissioned in 1967 and then bought in 1977 as a Mother's day gift for a former member of the church . It was taken apart and reassembled in her backyard. Her great grandson later converted the chapel to what is now the comfortable sanctuary located in a private valley on the outskirts of Boone. The church has been turned into a home which boasts a bell tower and 30 foot vaulted ceiling complete with the original hand hewn structural timbers. Nestled in a scenic hollow with a mountain stream and woods on one side and farmland on the other. Half a mile from downtown Boone, this private chapel is conveniently located 1 mile from Appalachian States Campus, and 20 minutes from 2 of the areas finest ski resorts. Come and experience a piece of high country history.

The Chapel is one of my favorite VRBOs! It was so beautiful and cozy and close to downtown Boone. It was the perfect spot to stay and visit several surrounding towns and we found some awesome waterfalls close by. We will definitely come again! Daniel was awesome!

My wife and I enjoyed our four night stay at this unique Vrbo. The history of the church and the renovation work done by host Daniel was inspiring. The accommodations and amenities were great. We would stay again at the Thomas Chapel, which is very close to downtown Boone, NC.

The chapel is absolutely wonderful. Daniel's restoration is amazing. Location is great - quiet (next to a creek that is great at night) and yet so close to downtown Boone. It had every amenity that we needed and incredibly clean. Communication with Daniel was very fast and great - wonderful host. We are already planning our next trip to stay here.

This house is absolutely gorgeous. It has everything you could need, is spotlessly clean, and is in a fantastic location close to everything. We stayed while moving our son into college and even though I tried to be sad, it was impossible because I was staying in such a beautiful home. Daniel is the sweetest angel of a host ever. I cannot wait to visit this beautiful chapel house again soon. It was a perfect stay!

Lovely, semi-secluded location close to town. Beautifully restored chapel building. Very well appointed and had all the amenities. Everything seemed new. Very clean. Host does ask that dirty dishes be put in dishwasher, linens removed from the bed and trash taken out to can. Host is very good and open to answering questions.

The Thomas Chapel is such a special place to stay. Such attention to detail! Comfortable bed, well stocked kitchen, linens provided, beautiful art work. The chapel is in a peaceful location. We saw twin fawns and enjoyed the trickle of the creek that flows by the chapel. We loved reading about the history and the seeing the love poured into the renovation by Daniel. Daniel was easy to communicate with. Definitely one of our favorite stays at a rental.

Had a great time in Boone but the chapel was the best experience. Love it! Thank you Daniel for sharing this beautiful place. You did an excellent job restoring it for sure! Hope to come back and stay again! Definitely need more time in those mountains!

Daniel took great care of us in this beautiful historic property that has been in his family for generations. Super easy access to downtown Boone, and a gateway to other areas such as Blowing Rock and Valle Cruces. More than enough room and amenities for a romantic getaway. Would definitely stay here again!

Amazing place to stay. We loved every minute of it. So close to downtown Boone. Quiet. Comfortable. The only thing missing is a place to sit outside. Couldn’t recommend more!

Great getaway. Thomas Chapel was perfect home base just following Easter. Went to Grandfather Mt for day trip, ate at some great local restaurants. Host was great help with top notch communication. Clean, cool history of the chapel. Would recommend this for a great place to stay!
