The cottage works great for couples, families with small children. It's a quiet neighborhood for an easy getaway. It is not a party location and the City of Santa Cruz has a strict sound ordinance.

Please let us know if you have pets as we allow pets that have been authorized by the owner and have agreed to the pet policy.

The Bedroom over looks garden area and is separated by 7 foot wall of Hard wood cherry shelves from the living room area. There is visual privacy but not sound privacy. Its a perfect peaceful getaway for a couple, or couple with small children. Beautiful cherry floors, granite counter tops, new kitchen cabinets, stainless steel appliances, washer/dryer. 2 person slate shower, bamboo garden with hot tub. Out swing french doors open to patio, BBQ, Lavender garden and yard.

Enjoy all that Santa Cruz has to offer. Swim, surf, hike, bike, golf, tennis, or shop. Drive to San Francisco or Monterrey for the day. Live in a great neighborhood and be a local. Enjoy the near by Monterrey Aquarium, Pacific Grove Asilomar Beach and Carmel.

The queen bed is separated from the living room by a bank of 7 foot wall of cabinets. There is also an option for a comfortable queen aerobes bed height with a headboard plus the sectional couch.

Needs some attention

We were dissatisfied with our stay. Awesome place with lots of potential but lacked a inspection prior to our arrival which could have resulted in a much better experience for us.

Awesome cottage!

We were able to bbq. Olive oil would’ve been nice to have, but we managed. Grocery store was close. The hot tub was up to temp and ready. Both couches folded down into beds and yard was perfect for the dogs. I’d recommend if anyone stays here and goes out to a concert take a car instead of Uber or lyft. They were hard to get after 12pm in town. There’s a dog beach nearby as well and made the dogs very happy. Great spot.

Not as it looks! Looks so beautiful, just not comfortable!

Looks nice, but very DECEIVING! The owner was constantly working on the hot tub that DIDNT WORK but was listed as a feature in a bamboo garden. Not true, it was behind a dusty spider infested building. When you use the bathroom you need to close the shower curtain in case the maintenance man is working on the hot tub because the window in the shower is right at the hot tub. The bathroom shower was filled with hair in the drain and very slimy. There were spiders everywhere, we killed several that were on the bed and hanging from the ceiling. Dust So thick everywhere, the bed was so lumpy my daughter has been complaining of her back since we returned! The two couches that fold out to beds were so hard that both the people who slept on those were miserable. Also when the couch was laid flat there was so much dirt, hair and food from not being cleaned. I did take a picture of the couch. The tv did not work and I used my toothbrush batteries to put in the remotes because they had none available, but it was the cable. We also had to buy 2 fans because it was So hot in that place 24/7. The temp was 83 degrees most of the time and there were so many bees around we couldn’t leave the doors open. I’m allergic to bees. The grounds weren’t well clipped as the side of my car (2018 Subaru) got scratched on driver side from drive way bushes that aren’t trimmed back. Same with walking into the cottage area, everything is overgrown and hits you in the face and bees and spiders everywhere. I can’t believe I was charged so much and was so uncomfortable and got a maintenance person coming and going. The worst was the heat and having no tv to watch! Just a bad experience all around. Also like to be able to watch tv. The amenities were not as they stated. I left that place cleaner that it was when I got there. I asked for a vacuum and the owner sent me a text that I still have saying “do not vacuum”. We wanted to clean the place up and clean it to be comfortable. I also text the owner regarding the scratches on my new vehicle due to the overgrown bushes and narrow driveway! It’s now Oct 30,2019 and still nothing is resolved about my car. Make sure you are in contact with VRBO corporate for any issues and have pictures! I’m thankful I did. This place needs a lot of TLC AND YARD WORK FOR SAFETY. Also kitchen appliances did not work. 😞

Nice place to stay while in Santa Cruz

The property was clean and comfortable. Peaceful! It’s in a residential neighborhood and our family loves walking so we walked to downtown, etc. I would imagine that some people might think it was too far to walk. The dishwasher didn’t seem to work. But, it was private and very pleasant. Santa Cruz is a wonderful place!

The house is located in a very quiet neighborhood, great location to the Santa Cruz boardwalk. The house was very cozy & comfortable and we enjoyed spending time in the backyard.

Great Place for Santa Cruz Getaway

This cottage was very comfortable and a perfect spot for visiting Santa Cruz with my grandson and dog. Loved the garden and hot tub. Communication with the owner was great. She gave us a warm welcome and responded to our questions in a timely fashion.

weekend get away

Lives up to the sanctuary name. Family of 4 and we had plenty of room. Wish we could have stayed longer. My favorite part was enjoying my coffee in the morning sitting outside in the peaceful atmosphere.

Anideal cottage in Santa Cruz

I can't say enough good things about this cottage. It was very clean, beautifully appointed and extremely comfortable for myself, my spouse, our dog and two of our adult children. The location was ideal and it was very spacious and cleverly laid out to accommodate 4 quite comfortably. I would definitely return!

Cute cottage in Westside area of Santa Cruz

Nice cottage in residential neighborhood several blocks off Mission Street in Westside Santa Cruz. The cottage has been nicely set back from the main house behind a tall fence, maintaining a feel of privacy for guests. The cottage yard was fully enclosed, gated, and surprisingly large with trees, flowers and chairs to sit outside and enjoy the zen atmosphere. There was plenty of space for our large pup to enjoy the yard, too! We are very appreciative when Tina the Doberman is welcomed as a guest too! The cottage itself was clean and comfortable with nice, natural light from lots of windows and several French doors. The kitchen and bath were well-stocked and there were a couple of large couches in the living area, which were great for watching TV (Xfinity) or just hanging out. A two person jacuzzi is located in the back of the house, surrounded by a private bamboo garden. There was a small, but adequate, bedroom space with a double bed. The bedroom space is open without a door, but separated from the living area by a tall partition of cabinets. We really enjoyed our stay and felt very comfortable at this nice little cottage. Mara provided excellent communication throughout the process. We would be happy to stay here again during our next Santa Cruz visit! Many thanks!

This place is an unfulfilled promise. It has a nice layout with lots of windows and patio doors and a generous outdoor patio and garden. However, it is dirty: baseboards, windows, blinds, sofa and walls. There are holes and scratches on walls and furniture. It is in desperate need of painting. The sofa is LUMPY. There is no coffee table, therefore nowhere to put drinks, etc, The shower and shower window have extreme water damage/scale as do the faucets.The garden has some nice structural trees and plants but it is overrun with weeds and debris. TV did not work for 2 days and I finally had to spend an hour on the phone to get it fixed. Microwave does not work, ice maker does not work, water filtration system does not work, light out in refrigerator. Owner very slow to respond to request for assistance. Very disappointing. Great unmet potential.

Beautiful garden cottage retreat

Loved our stay!!

My mother, 2 sons (ages 3 and 6), and I had a wonderful time at this cottage. I was very impressed at how clean and inviting it was. We loved the privacy and used the hot tub multiple times during our stay. We did have an issue with the grill outside which was a bummer but just cooked our steaks on the stovetop inside instead. Still delicious. My moms only suggestion was to have a full length mirror somewhere in the cottage for getting ready but besides that, we had a blast and will be coming back again!

i could live here!

this backyard cottage is very welcoming; my first impression was that i could easily live in the space. it is full of light, and seems very spacious. i can imagine a couple with a child or two being quite comfortable on vacation. the hot tub was a bonus. i soaked both nights before bed, and slept very well on the comfortable mattress. the pictures are fairly accurate - but i think the in-person experience was even better! i've noted that some folks have found fault with this listing; i could nit-pick if i wanted to, but, why? i thoroughly enjoyed my stay, and hope to return. Mara was the perfect host - she was available if needed, but not intrusive.

Cozy Cottage for the weekend

The property was very comfortable for our weekend stay in Santa Cruz. Full kitchen for easy cooking. Conveniently located with easy access to anywhere around town.

Cute, warm welcoming cottage centrally located in Santa Cruz

This cottage was clean & well equipped. It had a very nice secure yard for pets. My hostess, Mara couldn't have been nicer. She made herself available to help in any way but yet very respectful of my privacy. I am a senior lady traveling alone with my little dog and felt very safe & secure there. I even extended my stay an extra day!! I would definitely stay again if I found myself wandering that way again

Cottage Sanctuary

This is a charming, private cottage well-situated on the Westside of Santa Cruz. It is really a very large studio -- with the sleeping quarter separated by wall units/bookcases/cabinets. It is perfect for one or two people. Any additional folks would be sleeping on an air mattress in the common area. Kitchen is modern and up-to-date, easy to make your own meals. It has a beautiful hi-top table & 2 chairs. Bathroom is modern is very nice shower. We didn't try the hot tub but it looked inviting. Washer/dryer is in garage next door to house, so it requires going outside to do laundry. Location is about half a mile from shopping, restaurants. With the beautiful weather we had, it's a nice walk. Mara lives next door and was responsive to our communications. We enjoyed our visit! Thank you!

Great Cottage Getaway!

We stayed at Mara's cottage for the weekend to celebrate my partner's birthday. Mara was attentive to our needs and made sure we were comfortable from the moment we arrived until our check out. The space exhibits great attention to detail, from the roster of books on display to the supplies of spices and cooking ingredients available for guests to use. I even messaged Mara after hours to ask about the location of a broom, and she responded within minutes! The cottage location is ideal for strolling, whether you are heading into town or to the beach. On our last evening, we cooked up a robust meal and enjoyed it on the sunny patio, alongside hummingbirds, sunset, and lavender. Excellent rental spot, and a relaxing addition to your trip!

Absolutely very nice!

I loved my stay here at Mara's cottage, it's truly a gem. The cottage is very well maintained and it's sure a home away from home. It's very quiet and peaceful. The cottage is a good size home and has everything you would need. The layout is very spacious and fully decorated. Mara and her husband were very tentative and welcoming, I'm very gracious for their hospitality. The cottage is located about 15 mins away, by foot from SC's main strip, and it's a nice little walk down. I would definitely stay here again the next time I come down to SC.

Nice place
