Welcome to Aurora Borealis Cottage! This stunning two-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage, complete with a sofa sleeper, is located next to West Bay Diner, just across the street from a public beach on the bay in beautiful downtown Grand Marais, Michigan. This unique cottage features a peaceful enclosed front porch, perfect for stepping back in time. Relax and reflect on days gone by while savoring the moment to restore your spirit for the days ahead. Within walking distance, you'll find restaurants, museums, gift shops, and stores, as well as the breathtaking sunrises and sunset beaches Lake Superior has to offer.

Seasonal property available May 1 thru November 1 only.

Lovely town and location! Porch is where we hung out. We didn’t want to leave it!Bedrooms are small. Bed barely fits! Kitchen and living room look new.

Nice view, quiet part of town, walk across the street to a sandy beach. Close to restaurants and groceries. Many updates, well kept, nice bathroom, bedrooms are a little small. We liked it very much.

Perfect place. Walk right across the street to the beach, next door to the cutest diner, across from the friendliest toy store. My kids were in heaven. Quiet place, very clean, and decorated nicely. It felt very homey.

This was our favorite place during our trip. The house has an amazing front porch that you could spend hours on. Right next door is a diner. The smoothie/coffee place was within walking distance. The beach wasn’t very crowded. I would recommend this stay to anyone contemplating it.

Great Location

The location more than made up for the property's shortcomings since it's a short walk to the cute downtown and the spacious beach where you can see sunsets and hunt for rocks. It's also a short drive from waterfalls and beach trails.The porch has a partial view of Lake Superior and is a highlight, but the bedrooms are so small there is only room for a queen bed and nightstands. No dressers or space to open suitcases. In one bedroom, we had to tilt the bed in order to open and close the door. The inside is a little cramped and isn't as turned out as it looks in the photos. There is no dishwasher and only one bathroom, which does have storage space for everyone's toiletries. But the inconveniences were minor, and we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

We loved this property for its quaint charm, location, and glimpse of the water from the porch. It is an easy walk to town, multiple restaurants (MUST check out the diner next door!), fabulous shops, and coffee (MUST go to The Dream Bean!) It is across the street from the bay where you can catch a sunrise, and a short walk from the beachfront park where kids can play. It is also close to the dog-friendly public beach.Regarding the property itself, it is small with little room to spare so less people is better (It states it sleeps 6 but 10/10 would not recommend for 6 adults.) It served us fine with three adults and two dogs (We used to live in a tiny house so we can make anything work! lol) The bedrooms have room for only the beds. We put our luggage in the living room & porch. It used to be used as an art gallery and definitely has a cottage charm. The kitchen is well stocked and the bathroom is surprisingly spacious, though the shower definitely keeps with the small compact theme. There is no washer or dryer but you can use the campground laundry in town!Our only complaint is the communication with the host. The property is managed by Lake Superior Vacation Rentals (Leslie). We got no check in instructions and no prompt response to our messages on VRBO so it seems they perhaps do not check that platform. However, multiple text messages also went unanswered when we inquired about additional nights at other properties via text. So we have to rate communication as poor.
