The Black Dog. Houseboat In DT Knox

Stay at this one of a kind houseboat located at Volunteer Marina! It is very close to downtown Knoxville, Knoxville greenway, and UTK`s campus. E-Bikes are available for an additional fee to help you get around. Enjoy the peaceful Tennessee river and quiet peaceful outdoor spaces. The houseboat sleeps 4 comfortably and has a sitting area and small kitchenette. Book your stay today on the Black Dog. You will not be disappointed.
Quiet Hours
Quiet hours are between 9pm - 8am EVERYDAY. If there are noise complaints or any violation of this rule, it may result in cancellation of booking and removal from property without refund and a penalty of $200 for the violation.

Be courteous to other dock residents. If you are too loud or rowdy, you will be asked to leave.

STRICT NO-PARTY POLICY
No parties or events/gatherings. If there is a party of any kind the police will be called and everyone will be removed from the property no refunds. No Unauthorized Guests are allowed at the unit, $100 fine per guest if discovered.

No Smoking
Smoking is prohibited without exception on this property. If any signs of smoking are found in the house, a fine of $300 will be imposed, no exceptions.

Pets
Pets ARE allowed depending on size or if they are service animals, max of 2 pets. We have pet fee. If you are bringing a pet(s), please let us know beforehand, otherwise there will be a fine of $100/pet if discovered, no exceptions.

Other things to Note;
- The boat does not leave the dock.
- No swimming around the boat or dock due to electrical shock hazard.

Parking was a bit far away and it would be helpful if the host lists the dock letter and number in the check in instructions. The back deck seating area facing the water was nice, the front deck towards the dock was super dirty and had not been cleaning in a while. The beds were really comfortable! The toilet is tiny and you can’t flush TP, heads up for someone who is squeamish, also the water does not turn on right away in the kitchen and bathroom sink, you have to be patient. Beautifully decorated inside!

The greenway provided great access to shops, restuarants, etc. We were onlyl there for one day and it was perfect for what we wanted. LOVED sitting on the boat in the evening - much better then sitting in a hotel room!

My family of 4 plus our dog had a very fun stay! This was a unique experience that we thoroughly enjoyed. We used all the different decks and societies the cute and comfy decor. The tiny bathroom was the only drawback but totally livable for a short stay! We did not use the shower though as that didn’t look appealing, again totally fine for one night.

We only stayed a short time but we had a great time relaxing and sitting on the rear deck fishing. We actually caught some nice sized blue cats and carp. The house boat was very clean and good size for a family of 4. The bed was comfortable. Very nice neighbors that were friendly, helpful, and fun to chat with. Definitely will stay again!!! Only Recommendation I would give is bring snacks it’s kindve a long walk from the parking lot but you will see ducks, cranes, otters, and even some fish on your way to the house boat and once you are there you won’t want to leave just to get food. Just to peaceful to have to go fight the crowds.

The location was excellent. The use of the bikes made getting around so easy. The restaurant recommendations by the host were excellent. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was poor quality. There is little to no hot water for showering. The toilet is loud and troublesome. If the bathroom was updated, we would return.

I have always wanted to stay on a houseboat and The Black Dog did not disappoint. First of all I'm a huge Swifty and recognized the name from a song right away. By the way although I'm sure it is not related, there's an Albatross right down the way. The host go to the extra effort to include a presentation that well prepares you for your stay. The community of other boats in the marina is fun. The houseboat was extremely charming and so precious. There is a porch in the front and the back of the boat. The marina is a little bit of a walk so pack a rolling suitcase for ease. The host have made a wonderfully homey environment. There are fans everywhere for extra comfort. There are cute little drink accessories for having cocktails on the porch and there was even ice in the fridge which is everything to me!! Yes the bathroom situation is similar to an airplane or RV. I don't know what kind of plumbing the mean reviewers thought was going to be on a boat! Where did they think the plumbing was going to go? I would probably not recommend and extended stay but its perfect for a couple of nights. The bed was wuzzy and its just so darn charming! I would definitely stay here again if I am ever in Knoxville.

Step outside the norm of a boring stay in hotel and enjoy this houseboat! What a fun experience. Everything was clean and we had everything needed for enjoying 3 days docked on a marina. Communication was great and experience was great!

Walking distance to UT, Ruth’s Chris, Calhoun’s, Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. Boat was very clean, quiet location and nice views of the river. Wasn’t prepared to not being able to flush tp, had to throw away in trash can. Also not prepared for no warm water. Should be noted in the online description for guests to prepare for. Overall, we made it work and had an enjoyable experience.

The houseboat made a great first impression, but unfortunately that’s where the positives ended. Once we settled in, the charm quickly gave way to discomfort. The bathroom was so small it was barely usable, and the toilet and shower setup was strange enough to be a constant inconvenience.The bigger issue was the boat’s basic functionality. The electrical system failed, and we were without hot water for half of our stay — a major disruption that really undermined the entire experience. Owner's solution was for me to troubleshoot breakers, which is not how I wanted to spend time on my vacation.When asked for compensation, the amount given was so minimal it felt almost insulting given the extent of the problem. This rental has potential and the property and location are unique, but in fairness, this is really not much more comfortable than sleeping in a van down by the river.

Totally understand it’s a house boat, but the spiders and cob webs were pretty bad. I feel sorry for anyone over 6 feet tall trying to use the restroom and dirty shower. There was also layers of dust on the fans in each room that was flaring up my daughter’s allergies. We ended up driving back home 4 hours away at midnight because of those issues.

We needed a one night stay in Knoxville and thought this was a fun alternative. The listing photos were adorable but now realize some areas were not photographed entirely, leaving out some important features. It lists the houseboat as 1200 sq. ft, 2 bedroom, 1 bath, with all the kitchen amenities, and parking. This is what you ACTUALLY get:1 bedroom and bunkbeds in a narrow galley hallway- 2 feet across from the bathroom. There is no door that separates the bunks from the kitchen/living space. It is NOT 1200sq ft. of indoor living space- maybe with the deck spaces? The interior space is the size of a one bed hotel room. The bathroom is a toilet that seems to be original. at 5’4, when I sat, my knees hit the door. You cannot flush anything down the toilet, including toilet paper. To flush the toilet, you hold a button down for a count of ten. I had to text the host to learn how to flush the toilet. The shower is 2ft x 2ft and works by filling a tank on the outside of the boat and then press a button to drain it. It had standing rusty water. THERE IS NO HOT WATER. We did not use the shower because of its condition. The whole place was super dusty. There are no curtains in the living area, which felt unsafe. There are flying bugs near the inside lights. The kitchen is only plug in devices- a micro sized toaster oven and hot plate. We did not use the kitchen due to its condition and needing to fill the water tank. Parking is sketchy- and a long walk carrying your things.
