Welcome to Chez Leray!

Welcome to Chez Leray, our peaceful downtown-adjacent getaway! Enjoy a unique home in a charming neighborhood minutes from downtown, conveniently located just off I-40 / I-275 exit.

Our quiet street is perfect for families wanting to take a morning walk, sit on the front porch, or enjoy a fire in the backyard. And our proximity to downtown is a great fit for anyone wanting to be out & about and enjoy all that Knoxville has to offer!

You can even hear Neyland Stadium from our porch.

The space
Our historic Queen Anne's Victorian home, built in 1899, has a spacious living area, small kitchen & bathroom downstairs, as well as three bedrooms & another full bathroom upstairs. The front porch has a large stoop, perfect for sitting & waving to neighbors, and the large backyard features a fire pit and several outdoor seating areas to enjoy the Tennessee mountain weather.

You’ll also be enthusiastically greeted by our backyard welcoming committee lead, Meatloaf — he’s a very friendly Siamese cat who has his own outdoor setup but is always happy to hang out & receive attention if you’re so inclined. :)

Guest access
Guests are welcome to the entire space, with the exception of the owner's closet downstairs & an outdoor storage area in the back. The property is accessible via spare key that guests can keep with them throughout the stay (although please don’t forget to leave it when you depart!).

Hosts stay nearby when Chez Leray is booked; we're happy to come say hi, answer any questions, or provide support as needed but will not be staying in the house while guests are present.

Additional note
We love our home and want to be clear with our guests that this space is just that — our home. We find it cozy & comfortable, and we are aware that it might not meet the expectations of guests looking for a more glamorous, 5-star experience. We welcome feedback & are always happy to hear ideas for ways to improve. :)

Fantastic place to stay in Knoxville that's just minutes away from all the city has to offer. We loved meatloaf and he got all the pets

This property is a great location. The price was fair. The beds were comfortable. That's what I can say positive about it.But, it desperately needs a deep cleaning to start with. There are spiderwebs and spiders in many corners and windows. There's a "strange" front room that seems like storage with a dog cage and dog bed. The hot water in the upstairs bathroom didn't work. There are beds that could sleep 8 people but only 2 dinning room chairs (just strange).The outdoor space needs major landscape work too.IF you just need a space to sleep it's okay for the price.

The property was charming, clean, and welcoming. The host was very communicative. We loved our stay there, and we even got some ideas for decorating our own homes!We would love to return out of future date!

We had a mixed experience during our stay. On the positive side, the check-in process was seamless and easy with no issues. The house itself is a cute historic home that looks just like the advertisement, and the initial check-in communication with the host was prompt and helpful.However, we have to echo previous reviews regarding the cleanliness of the property. When we arrived, there was a used coffee cup left in the sink with a K-cup still in the machine. In the upstairs bathroom, while the shower was fine, there was a noticeable splatter of something all over the wall next to the sink and the floor was not clean. The downstairs bathroom was in worse shape, with toothpaste residue left in the sink and a shower that looked like it hadn't been thoroughly cleaned.Communication also fell off after check-in. We sent a message asking for help with a non-working downstairs TV and received no response. Later, we asked a question regarding the checkout process and were ignored again.Lastly, the location was just okay. On our first night, we came back to find a half-drunk soda left on our front steps, indicating someone had been hanging out on the property while we were away, which made us feel a bit uneasy.With some improved housekeeping standards and more responsive communication during the stay, this could be a great place to stay, but it fell short for us.

There are a lot of potentials with this property but unfortunately it didn’t deliver. We did like the decor and the vibe of the house and the cat was very cute and friendly. But the house really needs cleaning. We picked up one grocery bag of trash in two bedrooms and there were dead bugs on the floor throughout the house. There was no shampoo and body wash in either bathroom. We texted the owner at around 9 or 10pm when we got in, but there was no response, not even the next day. So we ended up driving up to CVS at 10:30 at night. We didn’t check out the backyard, but the front yard was in desperate need of work. And the fridge was very dirty and there was left over food container there so it feels like the house was not cleaned before we got there. The owner did send checin message saying this is an older house, but that is not a problem at all. We were just expecting basic cleanliness and some basic necessities but unfortunately these were not there.

Great, cute home very convenient to UT-Knoxville. Lovely home built in 1899. Very artsy and cozy. We only stayed one night (arrived after 10pm, left before 9am), but it was great for our family. The area felt safe (across from a charter school), and on a walkable street. We didn’t bring our dogs but with its fenced back yard, friendly outdoor cat, and available dog crate- we could have easily done so and will remember this spot in case we return (if the son chooses UT-Knoxville!). The hosts were gracious and communicated well.Being familiar with 120year old houses, we expected steep stairs, eclectic sloping flooring, limited electrical outlets and all of the things that go with caretaking a piece of history. If you are looking for a hotel type VRBO, or have accessibility issues, this isn’t your space. If you are a family that wants to feel like you are staying with lifelong friends at their fun, artsy, pet-friendly house - then this spot will be great. We loved it and our teens each had their own room (clutch when we are on a weeklong car trip together), and even got some cat-therapy with petting the outdoor resident cat, meatloaf. The kitchen was updated and a downstairs bathroom added- so upgrades made the house - more modern experience.Overall: vibe: 10/10, location, 9/10, communication: 10/10, cleanliness: 9/10, and value: 10/10. Would definitely stay again! Just make sure you expect to be staying in someone’s home- not a distant person’s “investment.”

The property was perfect for our needs of housing 4 adults, 1 teenager and a dog. Everything was clean and organized with extra touches like bug spray, sunblock and everything a pet could need. The owner was very easy to get a hold of with any questions we had. Perfect place to stay with a large group and a pet
