Barefoot Comfort in Carmel - Steps to Town & Beach

I've been coming to Carmel for 15 years and find something new to explore each time. Originally from the midwest, I left the harsh winters behind and moved to California to pursue a career in product design. Carmel is my refuge from the buzz of daily life and I hope it will be yours, too. I've been renovating and renting fully furnished homes for almost 20 years and this original style beach cottage in downtown Carmel is my favorite by far.

I had been looking for a home in Carmel for years, and I bought this one the day it came on the market. It's one of the original and authentic homes of historic Carmel, made entirely of old growth redwood - you just can't find homes like this one anymore. Plus, the double sized lot with some of the oldest oak trees in Carmel make this property serene and calming. The previous owners were a charming couple in their early 90's who got married when they were twenty and lived in this house throughout their lives, bringing their children and hosting their grand kids for decades. Inside one of the cabinets in the laundry room you can still find an original fruit drying rack which I left intact for the sake of history. That rack is what inspired some of the farmhouse touches I used throughout the renovation such as the barn style light fixtures, vintage Edison filament bulbs, and antique rim latch hardware on the doors.

This studio is surrounded by large windows on three out of four sides filling the room with incredible sunlight and fresh ocean breezes. There are blackout shades on the windows if you'd like to sleep in, though. The large king bed has high thread count Egyptian cotton sheets with a Belgian linen duvet cover and pillow shams. You'll feel like you're tucked away in your own private and quiet retreat during your stay, but you'll be just steps away from everything that this magical town has to offer.
