This charming property has been kept the same since the original build to keep the "sugar plantation" style of the old Hawaii days. No major upgrades have been made to keep an old Hawaii days feel. The RATES REFLECT the style accordingly. This home is perfect for LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION & FOR A DEAL! Other homes in this area run 3x the going rates for this vintage Hawaiian beach house. Please be aware this is an older home and the owners and repeat guests adore this home exactly the way it is.

Ideally nestled in a private gated community of Kona Bay Estates located min from center of downtown. The simple seaside style will melt all of your cares away as you sip on your Mai Tai in the cool shade of the deep, covered lanai. Experience the feel of being in another place in another time. All beds are fitted with comfy mattress toppers & the master bed has a 2 inch memory foam topper for a peaceful, cozy nights sleep! Close to Kailua Pier where the fishing is fine and the canoe races begin! IronMan start and finish is nearby. Property has a 7 night minimum all year round, unless arrangements have been approved by the owner of the Property. This property does NOT have any Air Conditioning.

Great location!

We had a wonderful stay here! Location was great! It’s definitely an older house that could use some updates but overall we didn’t have any issues. Be warned if you are tall the fans in the living room will hit you in the face.

Very clean and equipped for any and all to enjoy. Best bargain in Kona Bay Estates and the location on the water can't be beat. The pool is large and very private. Easy walking distance to most anything in Kona Town.

Hidden paradise

We were eight people and stayed at the condo during race week of the Ironman Hawaii. We were overwhelmed by the location, view and interior of the accomodation. It has everything we needed to make it a perfect time in Kailua-Kona. When we had 1-2 little issues (e.g. broken BBQ) the owner/agendy helped us immedatialey and super friendly. If we will come back to Kona one time this would be our first option for an accomodation. Thank you & mahalo!

And you can’t beat the location- just 20 minute walk to town. Knutson is easy to deal with - friendly and helpful. Best of all, Hale Pahukoa has a truly beautiful view!

Great place to stay!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house was absolutely wonderful. The accomadations were great! Being right off the beach it was wonderful to walk out to the ocean from the back door. The pool was great also. The children wanted to play in it all day. The lanai was wonderful to eat dinners on in the evening. The neighborhood cats were sweet to look at also. An added bonus for us! The description was spot on and our expectations were not let down.

Close to Kona activity (we came for the Ironman), but not in the middle, so you can get away. Outdoor porch was large, we spent most of our time outside (no air conditioning, so prepare for that, but plenty of ceiling fans). House had lots of little extras (dishes, condiments, pool stuff, bikes)

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We loved this house. It is in a gated community in a quiet area. The tide pools and ocean out back are amazing. There is a swimming cove a few houses down. We enjoyed the pool and outside grill area. We ate all our meals outside. The inside is a little dated and we saw a few friendly roaches, but we expected these things. The house is very well stocked and comfortable. They have every appliance, plenty of towels, and comfy beds. We hope to stay here again in the future. This house is a gem. The renting service was easy to work with.

The house is just right for three couples. The location could not be better. The only fly in the ointment was that the house cleaners had not cleaned the house before we arrived. Knutson bought our dinner while the house was cleaned.

Kona Ironman 2014 vacation

Rating Details: The property manager was somewhat unhelpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We came for the Ironman competition, and this was the perfect location for all the activities. We were able to walk everywhere we needed to go, and not fight the traffic. The house is in a beautiful location, and has a view that is great. There is lots of room to enjoy the beauty, and a kiddies beach only 4 doors down. The house is well equipped, clean, and nicely furnished. The geckos were everywhere, and fun to watch. The house was everything that we were told it would be, and perfect for 3 couples and two small children, with 3 large bedrooms & bathrooms, large lanai, kitchen, and living space. We will definitely come back to this property on our next visit the the Kailua-Kona area.

Family summer vacation

The property was in a perfect location, in a beautiful and private gated community with 24/7 security. The house was right on the oceanfront and just a few steps away from a small private beach. Downtown Kailua was easy walking distance, and the home was spacious and comfortable for our family of 6. The sounds of the ocean and waves were feet away. There were walking trails nearby and the airport was only a 15 minute drive. The pool could use some updating but it was perfect to be able to walk out the lanai and cool off in every evening. We ate all our meals out on the lanai looking at the ocean and breaking waves. There was a local mongoose that hung out around the house and we even met several neighbors as they walked out to the beach in the evenings to watch the sunset. The home was stocked with beach and snorkel gear which was awesome as we had initially expected to need to rent this equipment. We took day trips to the South end of the island to Black Sands, the central part of the island to Mauna Kea, the Northwest part of the island and into the Kailua-Kona rainforest for a hike and coffee tour at Mountain Thunder. The hosts/management team were exceptional and always very responsive to any and all questions we had, and checkin/checkout process was so easy. We absolutely loved our stay and built memories that will last a lifetime for all of us.

Convenient and comfortable location

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This sweet Hawaiian style home sits among other massive mansions and there was no place we would rather be. The pool and outdoor area was awesome with direct gate access to the sand and rocky walk down to an easy spot to take an ocean dip. Would be great for kids. Many reviews have read "dirty" or "falling apart" but my guess is these are people from the mainland. Welcome to the tropics! Bugs and geckos and a little dirt or salt around the edges is normal! Don't stay here for a 5 star situation, but a wonderful and comfortable home away from home with great kitchen space for larger groups and ample bathrooms. I do think the pool needs a resurfacing and there were some loose tiles around the edges, but all in all we were thrilled with our stay and will recommend to friends and family.

Book someplace else - gerat location, but house if falling apart.

I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: If you are considering staying here, you should book another property. The location is fantastic, right on the beach and close to town, but the photos of the property don't accurately show the house. The pool is moldy, discolored and missing tiles. We knew the house would be old and were fine with that, but things like windows, window sills and fans are filthy and falling apart. There was also a homeless person's trash and pants left on the property. Owner did refund $50 a night, but it's not nearly enough to make up for the overcharge for this lackluster vacation rental.

Wonderful location and comfortable place

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The location is great, right on the shore and near a small beach where you can lounge ans swim safely. There are tide pools right at your back door step. The gated community is a plus. We loved the pool, and out two younger kids were in it all the time. It does not have a shallow end, so if you have have small non-swimmers, I would be very careful about staying here. The beds were nice and the kitchen is large and well stocked with essentials. There were two boogie boards and some miscellaneous snorkle gear that we were able to use. Beach towels were great. We loved all the geckos in and out of the house. Most of the bugs were outside. We realize that this is a tropical location, so there will be bugs! There is no air conditioning, but coming from Idaho in November, we loved the warmth! There are nice ceiling fans in every room to keep the air moving.
