Historic Property close to South Beach and downtown - Lower Unit
The Indiana School will be your home-base for family fun. The schoolhouse is 2 blocks from Kids Corner park, 3 blocks from the blue stairs access to South Beach, and 7 blocks from downtown restaurants and shopping. The lower unit has 4 themed bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, and sleeps 12 comfortably. The massive great room provides plenty of space for families to spread out, play pool, or watch TV. The Detention room offers a separate space for the kids to watch TV and play board games. The large front yard gives your family more time to play in the sun. A propane grill and fire pit with seating is available for your use. There is plenty of parking at the property.
For large families, this unit can be combined with the upper unit for an additional 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, TV room, and another huge great room with foosball table. Rent the whole house for a week your family will never forget. See VRBO #858708.
Built in 1898, the Indiana School served as an elementary school until 2005. The schoolhouse underwent extensive remodeling in 2006. Many of the original finishes have been preserved including chalk boards, transom doors, wood paneling, and teacher's closets. Updates, painting, and all new furnishings were done in 2016. New windows, brick restoration, exterior painting, and heating/cooling improvements were made in 2023-24. The Indiana School has been designated as a historical site by the State of Michigan. The schoolhouse is truly a unique home.
Our weekly rentals run FRIDAY to FRIDAY. Check-in time is 4:00pm. Check-out time is 10:00am.

We have been visiting for 10 or so years now and have loved our trips every time. There can occasionally be small issues, but nothing that will excessively impact the quality of the trip. It is a fantastic and unique place.

We have stayed at the Indiana Schoolhouse on multiple occasions and are already booked for next year. This place is pretty perfect. The location for the beach, for downtown, for easy access to travel to other Michigan locations for daytrips well, it cant be beat. The house is large, and very well stocked. The neighborhood is quiet as well. We also enjoy having a great space outside on property to enjoy the Mighigan summer nights. Thank you to the hosts for providing a wonderfully curated experience.

This is a lovely place to stay and enjoy South Haven. Jen was prompt and clear with all communications. There was plenty of space for our group of 4 adults and 2 toddlers. Downstairs, where the bunk beds are, provided another den type room so we could have private time by entertaining the toddlers downstairs and have adults read or watch tv upstairs. We cooked some meals and had adequate pans and utensils. The grounds are beautiful and there are seating areas outside with lovely views.For the toddlers, it is a short walk to the playground and then on to the beach. We left with plans to rent this comfortable, lovely unit again.

This house and its hosts are a rare find. In an area full of rentals, we enjoyed all that this spacious home had to offer. We explored the area and came back to relax in the common area over meals. It is an ideal layout with great sound dampening. This meant that the younger people could stay up late without keeping the rest of us awake. Jenn is super helpful and responsive. Hope we can visit again soon.

Vacation was enjoyed by everyone!
This was a perfect place for our larger family. We enjoyed the large family room so we can all hang out together! Being within a few block to the park and beach was definitely a plus. We will definitely be returning.

Amazing place to stay!!
This is our go to place to stay when we are in South Haven. Beautiful neighborhood, close to downtown, the house is just as listed. Highly recommend!!

Family vacation
We loved our stay in South Haven at the Indiana Schoolhouse! Beautifully furnished and had extras throughout the house! Would definitely stay there again!

perfect for our group
guys annual golf trip - this is perfect for us with the main area to hang out and plenty of beds for everyone.

Wonder week in SoHa!
We had a fantastic time at the Old Indiana School House! It was so cool to see the history of the property while staying in such a well done and very clean rented space. We loved the location-close to the beach and to downtown. We enjoyed walking to get coffee, meals, and of course, ice cream! Such a wonderful week long vacation in South Haven!

Family memories
Always enjoy coming here for a family together time for Thanksgiving. This place is large enough for our entire family to be together but also enough areas for privacy or to rest and relax.
