Our stay was wonderful! We could walk downtown and enjoy all the 4th of July festivities. Our hostess was very welcoming and responsive.

Great location

We could walk to a grocery and Fire Island bakery. The beds were all comfortable and the stay was great. We would all stay there again. (We didn't know what side to go to for check in though, so that info would be helpful to include in the checkin info.)

Nice place to stay. Very clean, plenty of beds. Fully capable kitchen with k-cup and microwave. Close to downtown. Full size washer/dryer were utilized and worked great. You will have to climb stairs for laundry and for bedrooms. Recommended!

Great location for family vacation

Loved the decor - made it feel homey. Fans were great. Host was super helpful in navigating some issues with our travel schedule. Would recommend adding privacy film in windows for basement shower otherwise would not consider this place having 2 showers. Additional hand towels and side table in master would be welcomed.

Charming place in eclectic neighborhood

This place is beautifully equipped, and just the right size. Strolling through the surrounding neighborhood is a joy with easy access to grocery store and coffee shop on foot.

Short but sweet

We loved the location. We easily walked to downtown restaurants and to the Coastal Trail. It was nice to be close to New Sagaya Grocery do we could get food and Kaladi Coffee for breakfast.

Nice Central Location

Good location, walkable to many restaurants and the bike trail/rental bikes, comfortable beds, clean. This is a duplex with a shared laundry room in the basement. Basement bedroom was a great separate space for two couples sharing the rental. We had the basement bedroom and the other couple had the upstairs. Very sparse kitchen supplies. Need more glasses AND wine glasses too.

It was okay. Not exactly as expected. The VRBO rental is part of a whole house. In the basement there is a common laundry room shared with the other side. The second bathroom is in the basement and simply a shower attached to the wall with a curtain for privacy, and the drain (in floor of basement) about 10 ft away, with a wooden mat. Could hear other tenant through living room wall. Front door in picture is entrance for "other" tenant. Nice house, good location to downtown.Would give 3.5 stars if possible; 3 seems harsh, and 4 too high (flipped a coin).

Thank you so much for your feedback. I’ll review the description, but it does mention that it’s a historic duplex built in 1944 with two separate units. I also double-checked the photo—you can see the door to access the unit clearly, while the old front door, which is no longer in use, is partially blocked by a tree. While I restored the duplex with a lot of care, trying to preserve its charm, and added a lot of Alaska Native art, it’s still an older home; I'm really glad you appreciated the location—being so close to everything, including a grocery store and a cozy coffee shop around the corner, which is unique in Anchorage. I’m happy you enjoyed those elements. Thanks again for your feedback and for choosing to stay here.

Adorable and Conveniently Located in Anchorage

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at this property. It is a very well maintained house a short walk to the center of Anchorage including Delaney Park, the Anchorage Museum, biking trails and Visitor Center. The house (really a half-house/duplex) was clean and well appointed. It had plenty of space in addition to the two bedrooms and I appreciated the little extras like the reusable grocery bags and literature of things to do in the area. Bonus is the beautiful garden. This is clearly a well loved property. Veronica was always responsive to any inquiry I had within minutes. I would absolutely stay here again if my travels bring me back to Anchorage. Thank you Veronica for a lovely stay.

Older home in a great location

This is a home that was built around the 1940's so you are getting character more than the most modern home. We stayed here for our last night of our Alaskan vacation. It is close to downtown and to the airport. It was clean and the beds were comfortable. At first, I was a little nervous about not having A/C in the middle of July. However, I didn't have anything to worry about. The owner has fans in the windows and the room got very cool. We all slept well. She definitely has a green thumb and has a beautiful yard and raised beds! To note, she must live in the home when it is not rented out. The fridge/freezer was full of food. She did have two shelves open for availability to us. Since this was a short stay and we had no plans to cook, it was not a problem. For 3 people, it was great. We stayed upstairs in the two bedrooms. There is a basement with three twin beds (if I remember right) and a bathroom. The steps are a little steep going down into the basement but it is an older home. Overall, comfortable stay and just what we needed for our one night.

Great location - but things to be aware of...

The location is FANTASTIC...you are just a few blocks from downtown - pretty much a 20-minute walk of anywhere you want to go in the city center including the train station! We do think there's some info that's good to know to decide if this property will be a good fit for you... If you like renting a place that feels like private rental property or hotel, then this is not the place for you. It appears that the owner lives there regularly...closets full of clothes, family pictures & birthday cards displayed around the house, fridge full of expiring food (milk eggs, etc). Unfortunately, we found the owner to be intrusive. Several times throughout the stay we received text messages. One time we were told that they needed to come grab some personal items. We did not like this as we had valuables at the rental property. Another time we got a text stating that it appeared that we weren't spending much time at the property. We found this particularly uneasy, as there is a door alarm with the power source zip tied to the wall that alerts every time the door is opened - This text message made us feel like we were being monitored. The house is a split property, connected by a shared laundry room in the basement. The door to our side was unlocked and could be easily accessed by the other side's occupants. The house itself is perfectly fine for a stay and as mentioned before the location is perfect. Every traveler has different comfort levels, so we feel it's good to share this info to help you make a decision that's right for you!

We are glad you enjoyed the location of our home, and we're sorry that some elements did not match your expectations. We would like to provide some clarification on a few points in your review that were not particularly fair: It’s true, this isn’t a hotel but it is a sweet place that we take great pride in, especially the Alaska artwork which is why we have a security system. The notification system on our doors are set to protect our possessions and artwork. There are no cameras, and we are not monitoring guests, simply trying to keep our home safe. We messaged you because we we're able to tell whether or not you had successfully been able to check in. You mentioned the laundry being open, which it shouldn’t have been. My apologies; it was simple enough for you to turn the key to lock it. We made it clear that this is our home we are renting, and that we have some of our personal possessions in closets; the dressers we empty and there was plenty of available space for your personal effects. Also, I leave items in the pantry and some essentials like milk, eggs and condiments for guest use. After you left your comments, I confirmed that while a couple items had expired, they we still fine for consumption. I try not to waste food. Lastly, you had my contact information and were welcome to reach out to me if you had questions or concerns. Veronica was very easy to deal with. Took care of our needs right away. . Her place was immaculate and the back yard gorgeous. Beds were comfortable. The location was perfect for 4th of July festivities. One recommendation would be blackout curtains. Otherwise it was a lovely stay.

Wonderful Experience & Incredible Location

My family and I had a wonderful time staying here! Everything was clean, comfortable, and exactly what we wanted. For 3 adults, the space was perfect size. One of the rooms had light curtains, which made sleeping in the summer a little difficult without an eye mask, but not a major issue at all. We arrived very late at night, and the owners were wonderful and accommodating. Veronica was extremely responsive and made sure we had everything we needed. We would definitely come stay here again, and gladly recommend to friends looking for a great place to stay in Anchorage!

Adorable 1947 Duplex, originally built to house the Civil Aeronautical Administration (now the FAA) employees' families brought to Alaska to build airports during and after WWII. I've restored much of the house with modern appliances to be comfortable but kept the old charm. Super convenient and sweet spot. Just a few blocks from the coastal trail and 1 block from a market -- can't beat it in the spring, summer, winter or fall!
