A unique break

Incredible location, very clean, and a smooth check-in process. The accommodation was just like the photos. The local fish was beautifully fresh. The host was quick to reply to our questions. Highly recommend.

What a view !!!!!

Fantastic location with breathtaking views. Lovely to hear the sea and the wind during night. Kitchen and living room where ok.The beds and mattrasses need renewing. A curtain near the toilet is recommandable, otherwise you are fully exposed to walkers and neighbours...

Incredible location, but a bit worn

This property is absolutely amazing for its location and uniqueness. But it is definitely showing some wear. The bed on the top floor needs a re-do as it's not all that comfortable and looks worn when you strip the sheets on the last day. The induction hob is 'temperamental' at best. The kitchen is well supplied from an equipment perspective, but some initial groceries would be really nice at this price point - some milk or snacks, etc. - as it is a remote location. The living area on the 2nd floor is fantastic - incredible view and a very cosy vibe with the wood burner and built in sofa. The bathroom is also showing its age - needs some refurbishment for the price point. Overall the location and views are absolutely stunning. And love the minimalist design. But it could use a re-vamp to justify the price.

Unique venue

We had a wonderful stay in this most unusual accomodation. Loved the views and being directly on the beach. Cannot fault cleanliness and comfort and communication. I would advise to really understand the bathroom situation as it is a little unusual but we enjoyed it all.

Perfect location

What a fantastic house in an ideal location - right on the beach with fantastic views. The house is compact with all all high end necessities. The bathroom arrangement wouldn’t be to everyone’s liking but we coped. Dungeness railway is a 5 mins stroll away and the train ride is a must. Also highly recommend the Pilot pub.

Magical location

If you want somewhere truly different, this is it. Dungeness estate is a magical location which has to be experienced to be believed. The lookout is a fantastic place to stay and although not cheap, you are paying for something very different. If being picky, the building needs a little love here and there, a better shower set-up and raising the master bed a few feet would create an awesome view. Oh and a telescope would be amazing!! Will definitely be booking again.

Amazing, extraordinary, unique and wonderful!

Coastguard Lookout is an amazing place to stay - completely unique and absolutely wonderful. The property is really well designed and fitted out, ingeniously shoe-horned into the space. You get incredible views from each floor, each slightly different, and you really are right on the shore line. The two balconies give you fantastic expansive views, and the sound of the sea from there and from inside too is magical. We had different weather each day and really enjoyed sitting and watching the seascape change day to day - and even hour to hour - with beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Dungeness is intriguing, mysterious, bleakly beautiful and completely unusual. It's stylishly done out and generally comfortable though the upstairs bed is quite soft. The bathroom being in one bedroom is ... unusual ... but this and other idiosyncrasies are clearly described by Bloom and are just a function of the specialness of the building. When we couldn't open one of the balcony doors we contacted the owner (who is the contact point given) and it was sorted within a couple of hours, which was great. On a windy night you could hear the wind whipping around especially in the top bedroom which we loved. It's a fantastic place, wonderful that you can stay there, and we'd highly recommend it and would love to return.

Incredible location

I’ve never stayed in such an incredible location. Waking up and going to sleep literally yards from the sea’s breaking waves is such an amazing experience. Our visit was in January and so the log fire was a very welcome and much used feature. Would love to come back in the summer.

Fantastic get away!

Such an awesome place to stay and get away to. Fabulous change of scene after the monotony of lockdown. The tower was very well equipped and comfortable. So wonderful to step out right onto the beach and we loved looking out at the view from the different levels. Would definitely recommend and hope to stay again

No better lookout over Dungeness

A fabulous place to stay with unrivaled views over Dungeness but needing a bit of TLC now. It's an imposing-looking piece of architecture with the 4th best viewpoint of the sea, the beach and the land - only the two lighthouses and the power station are taller and none of them offer accommodation. In the Coastguard Lookout the view from the lounge and the balcony outside the upper bedroom are fabulous, day or night, when massive ships lit up in the dark pass along the English Channel. Some of the fixtures and fittings are getting very worn now - the curtain that sections off the toilet was broken at one end and hanging down, many of the windows are either sealed shut or the handles unworkable and we couldn't find a bottle opener or a can opener anywhere in the kitchen. The iMac is no substitute for a television - it's on a low shelf and there is no remote control and the email we received from Bloom gave the wrong password. There is one very nice, comfy chair in the lounge but the bench with cushions is less than ideal. So, it's now time for the owner to get in and have some maintenance done, but despite that, we really enjoyed our time at the Coastguard Lookout and I would certainly recommend it to anyone seeking a fabulous, unique place to stay at Dungeness.

A fantastic stay in an extraordinary building in a quite unique location

The Coastguard Lookout is quite simply unique. It is a little quirky, but that adds to its charm. It is situated right on the beach with views in all directions. The interior design is highly imaginative and makes full use of all the space. Do study the layout plan as the bedroom/wc layout would suit a family but probably not two couples. It is a wonderful space to stay.

Location, Location, Location

A sensational location and 270 degree views, as close to the sea as you can get without being in it. It is astonishing that a workable living space has been created out of such an oddly-shaped building. It is comfortable and well-equipped and the only sounds to be heard are natural ones, although there was maybe a little bit too much wind to be heard when we were there. Some aspects of the design won't work for everyone. For example, having one room on each of four floors means a lot of tramping up and down stairs unless you are very well organised. And despite the curtains, some people may be uncomfortable with the only bathroom/toilet being in one of the bedrooms. The environment is quite alien and harsh, and we wouldn't be tough enough to live there full time. The fish and chips at the Pilot, the Snack Shack or the Britannia are not to be missed.

Unique Stay

This is a house like no other. I can't think of anywhere else where you could stay so close to the sea and in such a remote location. The house has been converted to a high standard. We were a family of 4 and so although fairly impractical for us (we knew this before coming), we had a great time and would recommend.

Big skies & peace away from it all

A return visit for 4 nights - a uniquely special place to stay. A testament to the endurance of great design (both when built and converted), the uncluttered spaces and functional, high-quality equipment have created a relaxing place to escape and restore. Perfect for creatives and lovers of big skies and nature. The silence and spectacle of the sea and sky are so inspiring and this place delivers direct access to both, even when indoors. Bloom Stays are very efficient and the quality of cleaning was high. The owner Fiona is equally helpful and responsive, much appreciated and we feel so fortunate to be able to share a piece of her creative personal vision. I understand that she has brought to life several other unique utility places on Dungeness, what an amazing talent. We hope to visit each of them in turn, but having spent even 8 nights here in one year, we feel a very close bond with the Coastguard Lookout which will be very hard to beat. Thank you.

4 Nights on the Ness

Magnificent building and location, industrial, minimalist, clean and beautiful presented. A unique escape from life for a few rare days in Feb. Best thing was snuggling up in the top bedroom listening to the wind and the crashing waves. Only issue for us was that the mattresses defo needed updating as bit lumpy and saggy on our slightly older backs! Other than this, fab fab fab

Location great, comfort not so great.

Location is great as is character of building. Kitchen has all you need in terms of crockery, pans, knives etc. No comfortable chairs inside or outside, which is a real oversight. Really should have a safety mat in bath/shower, ideally a towel rail to hold on to and to have towel to hand - it is hard to get in and out of and dangerous in that you can easily slip and fall, whatever your mobility, age, height etc.

An incredible experience

This was a magical stay from the very point of arrival to departure. Even though there was so much to discover across Dungerness, temptation was to stay and enjoy this unique building. Beautifully converted (simply a beautiful piece of architecture) from a working coastguard lookout to a comfortable home from home. The views are to die for, but the experience of being so close to the sea, and separate from everything else is what made the stay that bit more special. It allows you to connect to the landscape and nature in a way we hadn't experienced anywhere else in the UK.

Wonderful stay.

Is exactly as billed. A stunning location. Always something to watch out of the windows and on the outside decks. I think if there had been a worktop and chairs in the top room (with a foldaway bed) we would have spent most of our time reading and gazing out of the windows - it was a bit chilly to be outside for a long period. Luckily we had taken our thermos flask so had warm drinks up there. We had a wonderful time - thank you. Beverley wanted a seaside location - this could not have been bettered.

Unique building in a stunning location

I had a wonderful weekend with my children at the Coastguard Lookout. We were all in complete awe of the location - right on the beach with a huge and unobstructed vista. We had a mixed bag of weather but it works come rain or shine! Either you are out enjoying the amazing Dungeness scenery, or you are cozy and secure in the tower watching the drama unfold all round you. The building has so many quirks that all add to its charm. It was an amazing experience that we will all talk about for years to come.

coast guard lookout

We stayed with another couple. Toilet was a problem because of no door on toilet and bathroom. which was open plan to bedroom. The rest of our stay was so amazing the location is second to none. the whole ambience of the coast guard lookout is fantastic. you can almost feel the history of the place and what it once was. wlll come back one day because once is not enough.

Don't miss out in Dungeness!

A great place to spend a long weekend with friends or just your loved one. A great location to explore the immediate local area or to venture further afield. An unbelievable, unique building to stay in! A former Coastguard Tower, this building has been sympathetically converted for holiday accommodation. It's original features remain, the most notable being the staircase, which speaks volumes about it's original use. It leads you to each of the 4 floors, the top 2 having access outside to a wrap around balcony and deck on the top floor. The latter offers an opportunity to take in views of the whole Dungeness estate and beyond and that's before you look the other way over the sea! The kitchen was extremely well equipped making it easy to prepare some locally purchased seafood in a setting that couldn't be anymore befitting. We will be back to sample some more tranquility in this great setting on the very edge of Kent's coastline!

Coast Guard Lookout - feedback

This is an amazing location and a very neat well kept property, however our experience was ruined with the bugs! Spiders and what looked like Earwigs on all floor levels and in the beds left us with little sleep and an uncomfortable experience. The owner's would benefit from sealing the property properly and keeping the bugs out. The other odd feature of this property is there is only one toilet, which is in the children's room behind a curtain and not ideal.
