Rare Private Heated Pool w/in 1.5 Blocks to the Beach!

I'm glad you found the home to be clean and large enough for a big group. I actually just had the carpet cleaned on the lower level a few days before you arrived. I had a couple of free days and thought I would get some extra cleaning in. We must have not noticed it since we are wearing masks inside. I will follow-up on this to see if it's still an issue. For future renters - in regard to steps, there are 3 steps to get to the main level of the house from the outside. The lower level is a walk-out so in order to get to the pool you have to take a flight of stairs down and then another five or six steps to get up on the deck. An additional fence has been added on the deck right before the pool. There's still room for chairs and lounge chairs on the other side as well if you want to relax next to the pool. It really makes a world of a difference if you have little ones.

Unfortunately, it appears that Nancy made rash judgments about the neighborhood. I suggest reading other reviews and note that the two reviews after Nancy are actually guests that stayed after her. The neighborhood is safe to walk in. My friends, guests (400+), and I have never had a safety issue. I walk and ride my bike at all times of the day and night and even on the nature trails alone or with my toddler. The statement made is really unfounded and extreme. The neighbor with the “abandoned house” is an awesome man if you are lucky enough to meet him. He has several homes including one on a different continent and recently opened up a restaurant in New York. He is a friendly and a welcoming neighbor to have next to a vacation rental, which definitely can’t be said about other rentals. He is a collector/flipper of things so his backyard is a bit unkempt, but it’s because of people like him that Miller is a hip and artsy beach town. The homes that Nancy must have considered run down or abandoned are probably the homes of residents that 80+ years old (Miller Beach is a bit of a retirement community) that have not been able to keep up with maintenance or someone’s second home. Miller Beach real estate is hot, given its proximity to the Lake and Chicago. Anything and everything that could have been flipped in the neighborhood has been flipped since the Great Recession. The shell of an abandoned hotel (formerly a Holiday Inn on Dunes Highway, which probably went out of business because of the construction of the interstate) is not located in Miller Beach. If you are coming from the Tollway, you will pass it. Note, that I 95% of time take the freeway unless traffic is really backed up. In terms of safety concerns on the property I expect, and as written in the Rental Agreement, guests to always communicate immediately if they find safety concerns on the property. Telling a host via a review that is posted several weeks after their stay is mind baffling given that it must have been a big deal for them and that they didn’t care about other people’s safety. Within 2 hours of reading Nancy’s review I had someone deal with the posts. I spend quite a bit of time in that backyard maintaining the pool and my 2-year-old almost always takes her shoes off while I’m working. I would have certainly removed the posts had I known for my family’s safety and others. If you are having a bad experience, you should really tell the host during your stay to see if they can make things better or right. Waiting until after your stay does no one any good.
