A cottage weekend break in Burford

We stayed for the weekend to celebrate my husbands 50th. The cottage is old and steeped with character - old beams, wonky floor boards, log burning fire. The kitchen is small but has everything you need in it. The bedroom and a good size with very comfortable beds. Great central location with wonderful bars and restaurants a short distance away. Lovely to wake to the sound of the church bells - a real treat!

Quaint cottage in the heart of Burford

Lovely place to stay in the heart of Burford, TV didn't work but wasn't too much of an issue for us.

Excellent accommodation

A lovely cottage with a beautiful church at the end of the road, and around the corner from the Main Street in Burford. Three storeys of comfort and delight. Would definitely visit again. Pretty, clean, and a really helpful housekeeper.

Weekend stay in Burford

Great location and a lovely characterful cottage which we rented for 2 couples. Beds were really comfortable and it’s very tastefully furnished. However it’s shame there isn’t another armchair in the living room as the wooden window seat isn’t the most comfortable. Also a microwave would be handy in the kitchen.

Fine old building in a great location BUT garden was a disappointment. TV didn't work (didn't complain as saw another guest complain in March that it wasn't working and it was so small we used my laptop). No freezer section in fridge. Duvets on beds considerably smaller than the bed.

Your feedback has been passed on to the owner and housekeeper. The housekeeper mentioned that they wish you had reached out during your stay regarding the garden and the TV, as they would have been more than happy to visit and resolve these issues for you. We're pleased to confirm that the TV has now been fixed, and a gardener will be visiting the property shortly. Lovely cottage super location but …

The cottage was in a fabulous location and very clean. However the on line photographs are very misleading - the cottage is very dark with not enough lighting even during a very sunny day (more lamps needed) the beds had two flat pillows each and were not at all comfortable or inviting. The photos showed 4 pillows per bed. Towels provided were of a lovely quality however you can’t run the 2 showers simultaneously. The cottage was functional but absolutely no wow factor at all - could only be used as a place to sleep not at all comfortable to spend any length of time in. Overall very basic. We were slightly disappointed. Would recommend to others for the location and cleanliness but would have to say it was basic - very overpriced!!

A few points

The cottage could benefit from more lighting in the living room as very dark. It could do with another comfy chair as could not seat 5 people comfortably. The bedrooms could do with a mirror. The oven was very dirty and could have done with a clean so we didn't like to use it. We could not sit in garden comfortably as chairs were locked in shed along with bbq and we weren't given the combination for the lock. We rang the number given to us but they didn't know the code. Beware of dog mess too in garden right outside back door. Apart from these points we did have a good weekend. Very central position, lots of good pubs with lovely food. Lovely places to visit.

Cottage stay on lovely town

Our second stay at a Boltholt retreat property- we arrived at the lovely cottage in the historic tourist spot of Burford down a little dead end lane to the church with a boarding school adjacent. A few places to park if the tourists haven’t found them first! But plenty down the next rd by the church with a 5 min walk to the cottage- spinners cottage is a quaint small property with plenty of character-would like to see a few more items in the kitchen-maybe a microwave & more smaller saucepans - no freezer so don’t bring anything that needs freezing ! Kitchen is small and only room for a few adults at a time - lounge area includes a large table for 6 plus a settee for 3 & a armchair with a window seat - you will see tourists passing by looking through the windows & having photos taken. There are some shutters to close if need be although we would wave at them. The cottage comes into a great space from the next floor & upwards spacious rooms - quite basic but ok -first room could do with some hooks on door or walls with hangers to hang clothes as no wardrobes - second bedroom has the hanging space & a large side room that could do with a mirror definitely & maybe more hanging space for bedroom one -it’s more of a storage room with the ironing board &spare duvets - Attic room is well equipped with more modern touches but again no hanging space only a chest of drawers - all 6 of us used the second bedroom to hang clothes but not enough hangers! Bathroom was nice would have liked shower gel / shampoo provided (our last properly did so thought it was standard) Over all the cottage was fine for 6 of us & 2 dogs for a few days stay - garden at end is a walk through for everyone in the 4 cottages & is quite small but we didn’t use it only to access -didn’t see a bbq or told where it was if we wanted too. We love the Cotswold and this was fab for visiting lots of lovely areas locally & enjoyed the pubs & shops in the town. Would say this would suit a family of 6 but just note little kitchen to cook & small if staying in the lounge for long periods of time if all in it-would suit 4 more comfortably. We found the tv see if you can? Didn’t use it as we were there to enjoy the area. A few more items like milk - butter - bread would have been a nice touch so we don’t have to rush out & get those items - maybe they differ between different accommodation at choice of owner as we found this to be a very basic welcome pack! Cottage was very clean and tidy & correspondence good with the housekeeper & we met her when we arrived and she is a lovely lady. We will continue to discover more of Boltholt properties in the Cotswold in the future.
