If you want an experience that will provide you with how local residents live in this area, this would be a wonderful opportunity. The farmhouse is quaint, well supplied for making meals, comfortable, and the views are stunning. You can walk to the nearby village and get staples, cheese, fruit, and bread and meet the owners. We highly recommend this experience. Add cooking classes with Lella, and you will learn many Italian techniques in her kitchen.
An experience we will never forget!
My family of 4 ( 2 adults, 1year old and 3 year old) stayed at this beautiful farm villa for a week with our friends from Germany ( two adults, an 8 and 10 year old) and couldnât have been happier.
Throughout our booking months in advance all the way through our stay, LELLA was impeccable with her responses to our questions. She was also able to provide a high chair and crib for our baby.
We flew into pisa and rented a car, then drove to the property which is on the northwestern side of Lucca ( about a 30/45min drive)
Upon arrival we were blown away at the beauty of the property and surroundings. The pictures on the website simply do not do the property justice of itâs true beauty.
We were treated by Lella which showed us around our large, two story apartment. ( very well accompanied kitchen, living room, upstairs- two bedrooms , the first had 3 twin beds and the second one queen with the before mentioned crib... there is also a large bathroom.)
Downstairs, in the living room there is a door which leads to the attached apartment that has its own kitchen, bathroom and bedroom with a queen bed. This set up was perfect for our group of 8.
The grounds are impeccable with vast views of a valley and countryside dotted with olive groves and vineyards, truly picturesque.
We had Lella cook for us a few nights, and weâre very happy we did. Lella is a phenomenal cool, utilizing everything grown from her property.
There is also a very refreshing pool and hot tube on the property that we and the kids swam in daily.
We visited in August, and although it was pretty hot during the day, the thick stone walls of the villa kept the house very cool, which was an initial concern of mine.
Our families had our own cars and took day trips everyday to numerous places: Lucca, Cinque Terra, vereggio, Florence, and sienna. All very much in reach within about an hour to an hour and a half.
Lella also made reservations for us to tour winery/vineyards. Which we successfully did with children.
Lella and her Home truly exceeded our expectations and we will gladly return one day soon!
Thanks Lella!
Our family of 10 spent 9 days at beautiful Abbacca-la. Our hosts couldn't have been more helpful or our stay more enjoyable. Transporting us to and from the train station, helping with the rental car--whatever they could do to make the stay perfect for us. The ride up the mountain is not for the faint of heart but worth every minute. Once at the top your greeted with the old world charm of the Italian country side and villa. Our rooms were very comfortable and the outside eating area for our family was wonderful. We cooked pizza in the wood burning pizza oven and took cooking classes: eating all the food we prepared. Although it was very hot while we were there the rooms where always comfortable. There was lots to do in the area. We visited Lucca, Pisa, Cinque terra, the kids went zip lining, the 800 year old bridge Ponte del Diavolo and much more. On our off days we enjoyed the pool and hot tub. A must is a walk down to the village to enjoy all their different kinds of pizzas. The ages of our group were between 13 and 70 and all of us loved and would recommend Abbacca-la to our friends and relative. Pat Gabriele--- Canada
This old farmhouse is up in the mountains with wonderful views. Our host and hostess, Lella and Paulo, could not have been more welcoming and helpful and the accommodation was as described...simple but very comfortable. The added bonuses were a cookery course followed by a lovely relaxed meal in the garden as well the option of ordering a meal to be brought to our terrace any evening. If you like getting away from it all, this is a perfect place to stay, with walks from the house and yet Lucca is only a few miles away.
Our family of seven was looking for a quiet, out of the way location that would give us the sense of living in the Italian countryside after spending our days in the crush of the tourist sites. Lella's property fit the bill. We ended up having to split between the two studio apartments given availability, but even so, it was kind of fun as it encouraged us to spend time outside at the tables provided for each apartment given the tighter quarters. The studios would be fine for smaller parties however. The center apartment has a great view of the canyon and mountains beyond from the bedroom. The furnishings and fixtures are a bit older (but clean), but fit with the character of the old farm house and locale. Getting to the farmhouse is a bit of a drive with some switchback turns, but worth the price of leaving the city behind as you drive through the olive orchards and hillside homes. Probably the biggest plus for our family was the use of the pool. Weather was hot and the refreshment and relaxation it provided the kids from the stress of being dragged around sight-seeing seemed to mend things (along with lots of gelato)! Lella was a considerate and helpful host. We enjoyed the treat she brought over one evening, and our occasional conversations.
We (parents with two boys) stayed at the big flat for a week. The farm house is nice with old stones. Lella and her husband live in the lower level of the hill, the rental flats are on the other side of the house on the upper level of the hill. Each flat has a nice table with chairs in front of it. The flat has typical traditional furniture and everything you need for cooking. As this is an eco friendly farmhouse there is no air conditioning and you should not use dishwasher/washing machine during the night time. Everything is ok, if you keep the window lids closed during the day and open the windows during evening/night time. We were welcomed very friendly and warmly with a basked of nuddles, tomato sauce and Lellas great olive oil.
We attended Lellas cooking class and had a wonderful day there.
The pool was used a lot from our boys and the Wifi too đ, which was fast.
The way to the farmhouse is a 15 min drive up the hill with serpentines. You need to drive down to the nearest supermarket. Lucca is 20min away and a wonderful historic city. We liked it more than Pisa or Florence.
We enjoyed the stay very much and also walked one time to the small old church run near by.
