While the exact date of Depot Village's construction remains a mystery, evidence suggests it was established before 1884, with possible origins dating back to around 1870. An integral part of Gainesville's heritage, Depot Village stands as the second oldest house in the city, with the honor of being surpassed only by the Mathison house, built in 1853.

Constructed from robust hard pine timbers and supported by intricately carved limestone pylons, Depot Village has witnessed a storied past. Once serving as the Gainesville Zen Center and hostel in the mid-20th century, it has hosted thousands of visitors over the years.
