This place was a good fit as we were a family of 17 staying here. We had both sides of the house and plenty of space. Contact with the host was easy and they responded quickly.

Check-in was seamless. I had one question which was answered quickly. The large deck and walkway to the beach were great ! Plenty of pots and pans. Even in July, beach was not crowded. Only issues were dishwashers not cleaning well, which I will make owners aware of. The master suites are wonderful with lots of windows, great beach view, king bed, and sitting area! The Queen rooms are very small with no view.

The house needs work although they said they were working on it. The air did not work correctly on one side of main living space but I’m sure it is fixed by now. Could have been cleaner. There were places in the paneling that needed to be replaced and a hole in one wall as you come down from top floor. I’ve been in worse and been in a lot better. Spent most of the outside on decks. Excellent location!

Our only suggestions are upgrade toilets to taller ones and upgrade plumbing. Upstairs toliets needed plunging often. Also upgrade grills to larger ones. Otherwise nice week

We made the best of our stay at the beach. When ever we had concerns or questions, the owner was very prompt with repairs and/or assistance with household items. We have stayed in many different house/condo situations at Atlantic Beach. This house, was by far, the least well maintained. I could provide a litany of issues we encountered but lets just say that for the money charged, other places were much more appealing. Upgrades to the home were severly lacking. I think that this home could make it to the preferred status but with a healthy investment of time and money.

Spectacular Beach, Unbeatable Location, House was a BIG LETDOWN!

If you are looking for a vacation rental that is clean, comfortable and safe, with all of the advertised amenities working properly, this is NOT for you. Be warned! Do not be misled by the pictures posted on VRBO, those were taken many years ago when the units and furniture were in much better shape. In their current condition, these vacation rental units have many deferred maintenance and safety issues, and are not ready to welcome guests (we rented both sides of the duplex from August 27-September 3, 2022. There were problems with ALL the 3 bathrooms on one side (leaky, unusable shower in the Master’s bathroom, 2 toilets not flushing properly and one was backing up.) Moldy water stains on the ceilings of the living rooms on both sides that smelled musty, caused by previous and current leaky 2nd floor bathrooms. ALL bathroom tubs/shower pads were stained and mildew-y and gross. There was sitting water under BOTH kitchen sinks, we sprayed them for mold. The dishwasher on one side was out-of-order upon our check-in, we handwashed dishes and pots/pans all week. The living room chairs reeked of urine, we had to spray them with Odoban disinfectant and fabric freshener. There were (unsafe) broken dining room chairs and a bar stool, and rusty nails sticking out of a chair. All the HVAC returns were filthy and full of dust. When we moved chairs, table lamps, stepstools, center table, etc. we found dust, dirt, pet food, empty wrappers and a dead cockroach. Instead of enjoying a relaxing & carefree week of vacation with family members who came from Canada, CA, PA, VA, DE and NJ for this family reunion, a lot of time was spent communicating with the Host and his plumber regarding the multiple plumbing issues. (On a positive note, if you can call it that, the plumber came out twice during the week to fix the plumbing issues but we were unable to use the leaky Master’s shower all week as the seal applied needed 48 hours to dry and a toilet continued to back-up because it was an older toilet, according to the plumber.) I e-mailed the Host with an itemized list of the maintenance and safety problems we experienced during our stay, supported by photos showing the issues, and asked for a partial refund of our payment due to the maintenance and safety issued we had to deal with. He refused. (I can show the photos we took of this property to anyone interested). I won’t be surprised if he responded to this review and say it's "unfair".

Excellent Rental - Amazing Vacation

Wonderful, excellent, and amazing. Description for this rental was spot on. The rental is terrific and the location is fantastic. Our party consisted of 6 adults and 8 kids and it accommodated us perfectly. It had everything we needed and more; spacious and comfortable, linens and towels provided, laundry accessible (extremely convenient), hot tubs on both sides, private showers for rinsing off after a day at the beach. The private walk to the beach was nice and the deck was wonderful for relaxing afternoons and watching the sunsets at night. Bob was quick to respond and was very helpful with anything we needed. I definitely recommend this property to anybody looking for a great vacation. We will definitely book again!

Best beach vacation ever!

Our experience with Carolina Dream was phenomenal. The views of the beach and ocean are amazing. Especially in the primary sweet. Bob was very quick to respond to questions, typically answers within hours of email, text, or phone call. The house was very clean and stocked with more than enough linens and towels. Ample pots, pans, plates, etc. We were pleasantly surprised to see a K-cup coffee maker and a traditional maker. The hot tubs were clean and well maintained. We booked it again for next year. Highly recommended.

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay, this house has a beautiful view right on the beach. The only issue we had was communication with the lawn care and maintenance staff, but otherwise we loved it! Bob was very helpful and easy to work with!

Wonderful week at the Beach!

We had 13 people stay for the week and it fit us all comfortably. House was adequately stocked for food preparation. Hot tubs were clean and thoroughly enjoyed by all in our party in the evenings and during rain. The shaded deck just before you go down to the beach was awesome. And when we ran out of hot water, Bob was quick to have it fixed the same day which was very appreciated. Bob cares about the comfort of his renters as he clearly showed during our stay. Would definitely rent again!

Awesome Spring Break/Family Reunion

This was our second year at Carolina Dream- a couple weeks later than last year. The weather was perfect and gave us lots of opportunity to enjoy the beach which is right outside our doors! The house was well maintained and had all we needed for a large group (up to 30 at one time) to enjoy reuniting and recharging our batteries. The hot tubs were used every day, multiple times per day. Last year the walkway had caused some issues for some of the kids with bare feet, this year the deck and walkway was completely replaced with new wood and there were no issues at all. The maintenance man stopped in to check on things and everyone we dealt with from initial contact to final return of deposit were friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this house for large groups looking to enjoy time together with all the comforts of home.

Perfect Spring Break Trip!

We rented out the entire house and it was the perfect size for all 18 of us. Kitchen, living room, bedrooms were all in great shape. The back deck and walkway to ocean was incredible, you cannot beat this location. The downstairs den was relaxing with the hot tubs and picnic tables. Had no issue whatsoever getting the security deposit back. Overall, great experience and will come back!

It is beyond me as to why this house has such a high rating. We stayed here last year - in 2016. It was the worst house we've ever stayed in at Emerald Isle. We have been coming to Emerald Isle for years, and last year we had a tighter budget than normal, so we thought this house would be a great choice for us. Upon arrival, we realized there was mold ALL in the showers. I went to the dollar general near by and bought bold and mildew remover. We had to scrub the showers before we could use them! The entire house had areas in the corners of the walls, the steps, floor, and even an area on the sheets of the bed that was not clean. The toilet upstairs was leaking and they had a small bowl collecting the water drip. The coffee pot was broken, and if your like us- a good cup of coffee on the back porch watching the sunrise is so relaxing while on vacation. So, we bought a coffee maker from Wal-Mart. All these things we just brushed aside. Then... the other guest arrive on the other side of us. The guest beside us informed us they were going to have a wedding on Friday.. on "their/our" back porch. The owner of the house never informed us that the other side of the house was rented out for a wedding. To be considerate to the other side, we cleaned our area of the porch on Friday. We moved further down on the beach so they could have their ceremony right off the walkway on the beach, we shared our picnic table for all of their guest, and tolerate the wedding party they had after the ceremony...but everything was fine. However, it would have been considerate for the owner to let us know ahead of time that there would be a wedding ceremony going on right on our walkway. Even after this.. no big deal. We enjoyed the beach and our family. On the last day, my mother spent an hour after we loaded up the vehicles, picking up and cleaning the house so we could get our deposit back. She swept, cleaned all the bathroom showers and sinks, tidied up all the bed rooms, kitchen, outside areas, cleaned the back porch so there was no sand on the porch or chairs, and even placed the pillows perfectly neat on the couches. We left that house MUCH CLEANER than it was when we arrived. It took my mother months to get her deposit back and then when it arrived the owner took $75 out of the deposit stating "the house was left unkept and in disarray" She called the owner and spoke with his secretary, which was the sweetest lady, but the owner never called back.

Relaxing and Enjoyable in Every Way

Reserved the entire house for a week with a group of friends. Location was perfect, right on the beach and you can't beat the view from the bedroom or deck. It was beginning of off season so we had the beach practically to ourselves. The house was fully furnished for all our needs and very comfortable. The pass thru door made it convenient for visiting back and forth without having to go outside. Definitely will do this again.

We had a great late season week at this ocean front rental. every thing we needed was right there. especially loved the hot tub which we used every day they were clean and refreshing. Both units were clean and well stocked the amemities satisfied all of us .many tv's for each interest in shows.. there were 12 of us and we had more than enough room using both sides .pass through door conecting the 2 units was great. Sunset sunrise watching on the dune deck was awesome!!We are coming back to this rental next November, we prefer the quiet of the off season .

A great time was had by all!!

This is the 6th year I have been to this duplex. A group of us quilters go for a week of relaxation and have been extremely satisfied with our stays. The owner has updated bathrooms and furnishings regularly and has responded quickly and politely any time we had any questions. We are very pleased to have the linens furnished without extra cost so we don't have to bring any from home. We particularly liked the connecting door to the units as we went back and forth often. All beds were comfortable and clean and there are plenty of pillows and blankets, if needed. We are looking forward to going back again next year.

Another great retreat

This is the 6th year of a 7 day quilting retreat in this older beach house. Upgrades in the bathrooms were appreciated. Less bulky furniture provided more space for all our machines and tables. Ample kitchen equipment made the cooking of our evening meals easy. One large dining table seated 12. Beach access and view was great

Great Bargain! Great House! Great Beach!

Unbelievable Price for a great house on the ideal part of Emerald Isle Beach. Very clean. Well maintained. Excellently stocked kitchen. Very nicely furnished. Everything was included in price (Other places charge extra for linens, towels, cleaning, booking fees, etc. etc. etc.) We have stayed every summer at Emerald Isle for many years. We have paid twice as much for not as nice a house! We will be back to this wonderful house every summer!

Not a Dream

Our family (siblings and spouses and elderly parents-91 and 85) rented the whole house in September. The day we arrived we found out from the cleaning crew, not the owner, the renters of the week before had flooded the upstairs bathroom which rendered the master bedroom downstairs and one bathroom upstairs as unusable. So that shorted us a bedroom and a bathroom. The owner said he had called us but there was no call to either our home phone or our cell. Serv-Pro came to set up fans and dehumidifiers upstairs and downstairs. The owner wanted us to be available to allow them and other repairmen in the house each day. While the Serv-Pro associates were very nice, we were on vacation, not interested in calling or waiting for repairmen. There were window air conditioners and dehumidifiers in both units (noisy). Both kitchens, and one upstairs bedroom and a lower bathroom, had an infestation of ants. Ants were in the cabinets and on the outside cabinets, counters and walls. Evidently this was a known problem as there was ant spray in both kitcehns. The downstairs laundry areas and hottub area had burnt out lights. There was not a smoke alarm in one unit although the base was in the ceiling outside the bathroom. We spoke to the owner numerous times, we were courteous and not demanding. He stated he planned to compensate us for our trouble. Today we received our deposit back as the contract stated. But there has been no compensation and truthfully, we don't expect anything from him. Our family visits various states each year for this vacation and have never had such a bad experience. Personally, we would not recommend this house unless it is cleaned up and maintenance is done on it. This is a great location and the beach is good. The surrounding homes were lovely. But this house did not meet our expectations or live up to the other reviews. Our time together was terrific so for that we give it a five star but the house gets very poor marks. We will go somewhere else next year.
