This cozy Treehouse is secluded on 2.5 acres of silver birch, mountain laurel and hardwoods & is 3 miles from downtown Highlands & 1 mile from the only hospital on the Plateau. The charm here is perfect for a romantic getaway, small family adventure or break from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The living room has a high cathedral ceiling that gives a wonderful feeling of spaciousness and has plenty of windows for outdoor views. The windows by the indoor fireplace overlook the outdoor fire pit, rocking chairs, park style grill and picnic table with umbrella. The downstairs bedroom has a king size bed and full bath. The upstairs loft bedroom has a queen size bed, writing desk, and bathroom with a shower.

The Treehouse is fully furnished. High speed fiber optic internet , WIFI and free long distance calling in the United States via land line are provided. Mobile reception in the mountains can be spotty but if you enable WiFi Calling on your cellphone & connect to the Treehouse WiFi, reception is excellent. There is a 50" Smart TV with Direct TV, Roku, Netflix in both the living room and bedroom. The popular back porch has rocking chairs with side-tables & overlooks the forest.
Highlands and Cashiers have incredible restaurants, antique shops, golf, hiking, waterfalls, trout streams and much more for you to enjoy. We wish you a great visit!

Our little family of 4 with 2 young ones enjoyed staying in this cute, comfortable tree house so much! Kitchen was well equipped and the deck outside was so relaxing. We will definitely be staying here again!

We were very pleased with our rental. This was our first time traveling as a family of four and this rental worked out great for us. Because we took our dog on the trip with us, we were looking for pet friendly properties. I loved that this one welcomed dogs and didn't have a restriction on size. Location was great being halfway between Highlands and Cashiers. Would love to come back in the future!

This was a sweet property. The owner was very responsive on the one occasion we needed to contact him. The kitchen was well equipped, but we only used it for coffee and sandwiches. I loved the desk in the upstairs room for doing my Bible study. It was a comfortable, quiet place to stay and we enjoyed it very much. Funny story - on the way there I asked our GPS for directions to Highlands and it gave #of miles to West Ireland. You will find GPS to be less than reliable, but somehow we always got where we needed to go. If you go I highly recommend the boat tour of Glenville Lake with Captain Mike. Not inexpensive, but you learn so much, see some falls you can’t see otherwise and very beautiful homes. He stops in November and I believe resumes in March.

On June 1st 2020, Chris, Sarah and their son Tom Finn Dunn became the grateful new owners of the Highlands Treehouse.

The Dunns reside in Houston Texas and have been vacationing in the Highlands/Cashiers area for nearly a decade. What started out as just “visiting the grandparents” quickly became an anticipated part of their family tradition to escape hot Houston summers.

Chris is a professor of English and Creative Writing at Houston City College and Sarah works as a nurse. Tom Finn attends DeBakey High School. The Dunns have two rescue dogs Maude and Margot who also head up to the mountains to make fun filled memories.

The Dunns have made many mountain friends and look forward to sharing the best of the mountains with their guests, for whom they wish to create a truly exceptional experience. If you have any questions or special requests, please give us a call. We look forward to having you visit.

We have been visiting the mountains of western North Carolina for nearly a decade and have fallen in love with the area. We decided to purchase The Treehouse, so we could make a permanent connection with the mountains and waterfalls and old growth forests that make up the Highlands and the surrounding region. We have taken great care in keeping the magical atmosphere that the previous owners, our new friends Larry and Debi, created at The Treehouse. For those guests who have experienced Larry and Debi’s hospitality and the quiet beauty of the home and property, we want to assure you that we are keeping in place all that make The Treehouse such a special place.
