HeartStone Hill Studio – A Boutique Bush Retreat in Castlemaine

Welcome to HeartStone Hill, a boutique stone retreat where handcrafted craftsmanship, luxury and nature come together to create an unforgettable escape.

Just minutes from the heart of Castlemaine, our beautifully restored stone Studio sits on 2.5 acres of peaceful bushland, surrounded by mature gardens, towering gum trees and abundant native wildlife. Unlike many local accommodation providers, we welcome one-night stays, including weekends, perfect for spontaneous escapes, special celebrations or overnight visits. We are a dog friendly site. (one small/medium size dog - extra $30 per stay)

HeartStone Hill was lovingly built by a local stonemason who began the project in 1999. His extraordinary workmanship can be seen throughout the property, from the beautifully crafted Studio itself to the extensive sandstone retaining walls that wind along the driveway, gardens and surrounding landscape. Every stone reflects years of dedication and creates a property unlike any other in the region.

Wake to birdsong, watch kangaroos quietly grazing nearby, spot an echidna wandering through the gardens, or simply relax beside our heated swimming pool beneath the gum trees while taking in the sweeping eastern views. After a day exploring Castlemaine's renowned cafés, galleries, markets and wineries, return to HeartStone Hill to unwind in the infrared sauna or simply enjoy the peace and privacy that make this property so special.

Whether you're planning a romantic getaway, celebrating a special occasion, visiting family and friends or exploring Central Victoria, HeartStone Hill offers a welcoming retreat where luxury, comfort and nature exist in perfect harmony.

So relaxing!

My two nights here were just what I needed. So quiet with great hosts where nothing was too much trouble. The surroundings here make it easy to unwind and a dip in the pool is well worth it. Not too far from town that you can walk but far enough from the busy roads so you can relax. So glad I found this place. Will absolutely return again one day.

Very picturesque. The room was large with a comfortable bed and two comfortable armchairs. The bathroom was adequate but the mirror placement is a bit awkward for ladies though there is a larger mirror within the closet door. Quite clean with coffee and tea available and a generous fruit bowl. The split system was great and it is very quiet spot. The owner was very warm and welcoming as well as helpful with directions.

Our stay at this beautiful property was well worth the it. Set in a quiet and peaceful location, it was the perfect escape. The Studio was immaculate, beautifully designed, and thoughtfully equipped to make our stay incredibly comfortable.What really made the stay special were the welcoming and helpful hosts. From the moment we arrived, Richard and Melissa went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and ensure we had everything we needed. A Perfect Retreat – Even Better Than Expected!

We had an amazing stay at Hearthstone Hill in Castlemaine! The property is exactly as described on Stayz – and even better. The peaceful surroundings made it a perfect place to wind down and relax away from the hustle and bustle.The pool was absolutely wonderful, providing a refreshing way to unwind. The king-size bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a great night’s sleep. Richard and Melissa were fantastic hosts—so knowledgeable about the best local spots for breakfast and dinner, and their warm hospitality made us feel right at home.One of the highlights of our stay was being able to bring our dog along. Studio is a very attractive stone and brick dwelling. What a pleasure to arrive via a sloping curved driveway through a lovely bushy block. All the amenities I needed were inside the comfortable studio, including a very comfortable bed, and a lovely warm shower. Richard and Melissa were warm, friendly helpful hosts. Very generous check in and check out times. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Thank you Richard and Melissa.

Melissa and Richard re-located to Castlemaine in 2021, when we purchased HeartStone Hill. We have renovated the buildings and built a pool and entertainment area for family, friends and guests to enjoy. This is a LGBTQ+ friendly and small/medium dog friendly property.

We were attracted by the magnificent surroundings, the stone buildings and retaining walls, all handmade by a local talented and dedicated stonemason. This tranquil meditative setting, in a rural environment, amongst the gumtrees and wildlife is relaxing yet energising.

Stone buildings, elevated views of mountains and colourful landscaped gardens. Set on 2.5 acres but only 5 mins out of Castlemaine township. Short walk to the Royal Botanical Gardens and The Mill - Castlemaine Vintage Bazaar.
