Sugar Mountain Condo - Walk to Slopes

NOTE: Due to the recent devastation from hurricane Helene, the walk to the slopes is limited. Only one bridge across the creek from our condo to the ski slopes is usable. It comes out at the base of the mountain near the child care center. While it is walkable, it’s not advisable with ski boots and all your gear. From our condo, you would head left (facing the building) down the trail behind our development. We’ll update this message as the situation changes. This condo is in the Hemlock Nob complex adjacent to the Magic Carpet area at the base of the Sugar Mountain ski resort. Listen to the year round creek that runs nearby down the mountain. Ski slopes are easy to reach with a short walk. Ample parking is available. This unit sleeps 8 and has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms plus a loft with twin beds. Kitchen and bathrooms have been recently remodeled. In addition to great skiing, Sugar Mountain and Banner Elk are great destinations any time of the year with plenty of hiking and mountain biking trails as well as many great area restaurants. Grandfather Mountain and the Blue Ridge Parkway are just a few miles away.

Our family had a wonderful stay here for a pre-Christmas ski getaway. We had four adults and four kids (ages 6–11), and the location couldn’t have been better. Being just a short walk to the slopes was a total game changer—it made it so easy to bring the kids back for hot cocoa and a quick recharge during the day. Check-in was a breeze, and communication with the property owner was fast, easy, and very helpful throughout our stay. We’d absolutely love to stay here again if it’s available on future trips!

Close to sugar mountain

We stayed 3 days to ski. The condo is older but upgraded nicely. Close enough to car pool teenagers to ski and back up during the day so there wasn’t the stress of parking.

Perfect spot on the slopes!!

Great ski trip spot. Tons of room/beds to crash after a long day on the slopes. Showers are both renovated and new, with great water pressure and almost instant hot water. Heaters work great to keep the place warm. Views are great, looks right over the bunny slope. You have access to the green slope, you just have to walk up the road a bit to some stairs and use the Bee Branch acess. It was the perfect spot for our ski trip & we would 100% book here again. Thank you for opening your family’s condo for us!!!

Lovely Mountain Getaway

This condo was such a nice surprise. There was a lovely view of the mountains and leaves changing right out the kitchen window. Everything was spotless and well maintained. The owner was easy to reach when any questions came up and responded promptly. The roads to get to the house were scenic but easily accessible by a car that wasn't made for the mountains. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Loved our ski weekend!

Condo was great! We came up from Greenville SC (about 2 hours away) to celebrate my husbands 32nd birthday. We ended up walking the trail to the slopes and tubing/iceskating all day and loved the convenience! Fair warning it's a hike back, but totally worth it! We loved being able to look out the windows and see the slopes and wave to our little one. The home was perfect for our group of 5 adults, two teens, and a baby. Lots of games, books, movies, etc to keep us all occupied. Great stay for sure and we'll be back!

Condo as described- however, technically slope side but not accessible to slopes without driving back to the resort. Would have loved a path to the slopes. Everything worked and no problems. FYI-Steps to upper loft are very steep.

family ski getaway

We have never been to Sugar before, and wanted to be within walking distance of the slopes--the description was on-point! Easy 5-minute walk. Townhome was cozy and comfortable. Plenty of beds for all of us. Some of the items in the home could use some love and/or replacing--the recliner foot is broken but still comfortable, the master bed headboard squeaks loudly every time one of us turned over, the ladder to the loft could use another handrail, the backdoor knob is really loose, the kitchen is missing a couple of items that would have been nice when cooking family meals (some basic spices, a whisk, another baking sheet). Even with all that, we would happily rent this again next time!

Thank you for staying with us! Now that the ski season rush is over, we were able to get up to the condo and take care of these issues. New LR furniture is on order, the knob has been tightened, the bed frame has been tightened and some kitchen utensils have been added.

President's Weekend Ski Vacation

We booked this condo based on location which was right next to the slopes. Unfortunately, most of the bridges over Bee Branch Creek were washed out by hurricane Helene and have not been rebuilt, so some driving and drop offs were still required. The size of the unit met our needs very well for our extended family with our kids and grandkids. There are some maintenance issues that need to be addressed soon...one of the large plate glass windows looking out on the slopes has slid down because of rotted wood and leaves a large gap at the top that lets cold air in, plus the glass door onto the deck is completely rotted at the bottom and needs replacement. Instructions we received said we needed a parking tag, but messages back and forth with the owner indicated it was not required. Overall, it was a good experience, and we enjoyed our stay.

We are happy to hear you had a good stay! Thank you for bringing the maintenance issue to our attention. We had guests after this stay and nothing was mentioned. We will look into this immediately. We also removed the parking tag requirement from our listing and do have a notice about the bridges. It's still walkable to the slopes, but we do not recommend walking with ski equipment as it is a little farther to either the lower or upper bridges.

Very enjoyable stay

Great location for skiing at Sugar Mountain and very close to nice shops and restaurants. Walked to Sugar Mountain one day and took the short (30 min) drive to Beech Mountain for our second day. The whole family enjoyed the location and views from the balcony. Amenities were up to date and there were lots of beds.

Great stay with my family!

My wife and I visited with our teenagers over the New Year's Holiday and had a great time. Accessing the unit was easy and, even though you can't technically walk to the slopes (there is a deep creek between this unit and Sugar Mountain Resort) the unit is still convenient to everything. One pleasant surprise was that the back deck provided perfect visual access to the New Year's fireworks show! The unit was clean, there were plenty of places to sleep, and we LOVED the updated walk-in shower which provided a great way to recover after a full day on the slopes!
