Charming, Lovely or "Encantado" this perfectly appointed 2800 square foot, three bedroom home awaits your visit to Santa Fe. The property is sited on five peaceful acres in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, approximately 12 miles northeast of the Santa Fe Plaza. You can easily drive to the plaza and downtown in about 20 minutes, passing the Four Seasons Resort, thru the village of Tesuque with its few galleries and hip restaurants or hop easily on the highway and head north to explore Taos and Abiquiu.
So much adventure awaits your visit to New Mexico and Casa Encantado is the perfect base from which to explore. Return home to the tranquil portal, light a fire in the outdoor fireplace and enjoy the uninterrupted mountain views and solitude.
Filled with numerous New Mexican style touches, this home is intimate enough for one couple yet spacious and functionally designed for two couples or a family. Highlights include an open kitchen/dining/living area and two spacious bedroom suites. Fireplace in the great room creates additional warmth and festivity. Soothingly cool plaster walls, unique artwork, heated wood flooring, classic beam ceilings, and handsome finishes accentuate each room, creating a magical, relaxed, and unaffected ambiance. Plentiful windows and skylights create a gorgeous natural glow within and allow for appreciation of the marvelous surroundings and breathtaking views. The bedroom suites are located at either side of the house, creating privacy for all guests. The queen suite has a separate sitting room that can be used as the third bedroom for young adults and or children with its queen sized pullout sofa.
All of this opens to lovely gardens in the front entrance courtyard, a spacious 1500 square foot portal with dining and lounging areas, outdoor fireplace and gas grill and leads to nice walking on dirt roads and trails thru the community.

This is the third time we have stayed at this beautiful home in Tesuque. When we walked in the door last week, my husband commented, “it’s good to be home!” Melissa has thought of everything - from firewood, specialty coffee, warm blankets and a kitchen equipped for a chef, to luxury bath products, and even a stocked beverage fridge! It is absolutely perfect, and in my opinion, it is the finest view anywhere in Santa Fe. We look forward to going back to stay in this very special home.

Beautiful and scenic stay in Santa Fe.

We love this house and its peaceful location. It’s our second time staying here! It is an excellent home for friends or family to gather, unwind, and connect. My wife loves reading in the front courtyard, watching the birds visit the fountain and feeders, and sipping on coffee prepared from local ground coffee/espresso beans that are provided. Melissa is a most welcoming host who takes excellent care of the property and guests. We appreciate her quick responses and availability if we have questions.

Everything was exceptional from booking, checkin, communication, the home itself and all amenities. Melissa was wonderful. Amazing High Desert Retreat!!

High desert views and a home that has everything you need for a perfect Santa Fe/Tesuque getaway! The home is exquisite with huge covered and open beam patios featuring fountains and cool garden sitting areas and fireplaces. The pictures on Vrbo are good, but the house is honestly so much better than the photos. We’ve stayed in many Vrbo homes across the country but this may well be our favorite so far. It is architecturally beautiful, furnished in Santa Fe style, very spacious living areas, and was everything we expected and so much more. Very private, very quiet area. Great management team!!

Amazing Santa Fe

The property is excellent. Very clean. The views were amazing. The property is totally as advertised. The house was well stocked beyond imagination, every kitchen small appliance and serving piece imageable was available. There was an array of coffee, spices, and pantry essentials. Melissa was wonderful and available for any advice or needs. This property is well run and managed. We have stayed at VRBO properties in Maine, Cape Cod, Georgia, South Carolina, Oklahoma and now New Mexico and this was our best experience ever. The house was outstanding.

Paradise in the Santa Fe Mountains

This home was by far the nicest place we have stayed in our travels. My husband and I had an absolutely wonderful time staying in this beautiful home. Everything was perfect from the moment we were greeted by Melissa to the time we left for home. The home had everything we could have possibly needed for our seven night stay. The kitchen was fully equipped with anything you needed to make a meal. A nice large sitting area inside and out where we could relax either enjoying the view or watching a little TV. The bedroom was large as well as the closet for our clothes and a nice large master bath with a copper tub. The bed was very comfortable providing us both with a restful night’s sleep. We would definitely stay at Susan’s well appointed home again!

Best ever!

Many of our vacations in the past 10 years have been at VRBO properties but this was the best of all. Immaculately clean, comfortable, spacious, well stocked with anything you might need and magnificent views of the dessert and mountains. We spent hours with binoculars on the covered back deck watching eagles soar. It’s12 miles north of Santa Fe, less than a 15 minute drive. We spent 10 days there and really enjoyed the solitude of the location. Melissa, the property manager, was so helpful in making our stay wonderful.

Beautiful Views!

This is a very nice house all on one level. It is up in the hills so it has some of the best views you can find. It is on a good long street for taking walks. The property manager is welcoming and helpful with everything. Has a large back patio where the best views are. Quiet neighborhood with large lots with houses that blend into the scenery. It's not too far from town but there are also some great restaurants nearby.

Beautiful home base for wedding preparations

This was a gorgeous home in a beautiful area just outside of Santa Fe. Our family was in the area in the days leading up to our daughter's wedding in Abiquiu. My wife and I (mid-50s) stayed there with our daughter and future son-in-law (mid-20s), and our son (20) and a dog. The house was perfect -- cozy, spacious, airy, light-filled, with amazing kitchen. The master bedroom was luxurious, and the other two bedrooms great as well. Our favorite area was the porch, with its amazing views and relaxing seating area -- the perfect place to unwind amidst the last-minute wedding preparations. We would highly recommend this property for those looking for peace and quiet outside the (relative) bustle of downtown Santa Fe.

Wonderful Family Getaway

We spent a week here with our two teenagers for a spring break ski trip. We can’t say enough how much we enjoyed this lovely property! It is obvious that the owners/property managers have paid attention to every detail to make this a perfect experience for their guests. From Melissa’s warm personal greeting to the fresh flowers and thoughtful check-ins the light the week, we felt so welcome and comfortable throughout our stay. The house was spotless upon our arrival. The decor is beautiful and the views stunning. The house was spacious and could have easily accommodated twice as many as our family of four. I’m hoping to return next year with a group of friends for a girls trip! We prepared several big meals during our stay and were pleasantly surprised to find that the kitchen had everything we could have asked for and more. It was also nice to have plenty of paper products and cleaning supplies. And while we brought our own toiletries, it was a pleasant surprise that the owners supplied many basics as well. It made us feel like we were staying in the home of a friend. We look forward to returning and working with Melissa again!

We have a wonderful property manager, Melissa, who has lived in Santa Fe most of her life. We are the owners, David and Susan.
Many years ago, when the kids were little, we'd often vacation in Santa Fe or stop there on the way north to Colorado. One year, we said, "You know, some day we might want to retire to Santa Fe. Why don't we rent a house there and see what's it's like?" We ended up booking a rental near Santa Fe in the foothills of the Sangre in a place called "Vista Redonda".

When we turned into the neighborhood, all I could say was "wow". I didn't want to leave and basically we spent the whole week on the portal watching the mountains and the sky with ever changing play of clouds, light, and shadows.

Late one afternoon, while taking a walk, we came across an empty lot in the neighborhood with an old rusted sign, "For sale by Owner" and a faded phone number-barely legible. We looked at each other and said "why don't we copy down that phone number? We love it here - and you never know."

We ended up calling that faded phone number and eventually buying the lot. And after many more passing years, we worked with a local architect and builder to design and construct the beautiful home that we now call "Casa Encantado".

When people ask me, "Why did you pick Santa Fe, I reply, "we live in Vista Redonda." And when they ask "Why Vista Redonda?" I reply "You just have got to see it".

As a young boy, I can still remember hiking to the top of a small hill, looking out toward the horizon and saying to myself - Someday I want to build a house with a view." Thus we have Casa Encantado.

Why this property? Because of the way it makes you feel.

Located at an elevation of 7000 feet on the edge of a high desert mesa, tranquil privacy at Casa Encantado is assured by five acres – dotted with juniper and pinon trees. The view is expansive – ranging from the peak at Santa Fe Baldy at 12,000 feet – across the Rio Grande Valley to the river at 5,500 and then back up to the lights of Los Alamos in the distant Jemez.

Ten minutes gets you to the Tesuque Village Market – a great family “roadhouse” offering burgers, salads, soups, pizza and outstanding margaritas.

The Santa Fe Opera is only 15 minutes away.

And then, of course – the Santa Fe Plaza – and all of the restaurants, shopping, galleries and museums there – is about a 20-minute drive.

Most residents and visitors enjoy long walks through the neighborhood – around the mesas and down through the arroyos. There are also numerous parks and cultural sites in the area for day trips and hikes.

In the winter, skiing is great. Ski Santa Fe is about a 45-minute drive – an easy day drip. The world renown Taos Ski Valley is about 2 hours.

In terms of the house itself – one visitor observed – “this place is like a jewel”. All the finishes, from the custom plaster, oak cabinets, granite and limestone countertops, original New Mexico walnut floors are “first class”. The entry is finished in dry stacked stone – an homage to the Anastasi of Chaco.
