Beautiful Property, Very Restrictive New Landlord
Facts: We rented the home for about 12 people with an intent to host a BBQ for our 12 y/o baseball team with boys playing wiffle ball in the yard one night. When booking, only 2 house rules were shown: Max 16 overnight guests, must be 30+ to rent. When we arrived, surprises included: rule book was shown with "no guests are allowed on property besides for 16 in the reservation", manager lives on the property 30 feet from the house, cameras were installed outside. We tried to come to an agreement to host our friends for 3 hours, including providing insurance, extra payment, and following any restrictions, however, everything was shot down. We proceeded to have the guests, nothing was broken or damaged. Next day the landlord tried to remove us from the property via the Sheriff for violating a rule we never agreed to, verbally or in writing. Local lawyer quickly confirmed the lack of any legal grounds for removal. We finished our stay during which the landlord proceeded to cut off our internet, cable and sent the manager to take pictures of the kids. Opinion: beautiful property, immaculately kept, manager Dorothea is excellent, the owner operates out of fear and compensates with control. We would have never stayed there if we knew the extent of it. Profit is important, liability is important, rules are important, and this business is about taking care of people. It's about human experience, vacations, joy and memories. If you are very clear about the rules upfront and they work for you, you should be just fine.
