Gypsy bell tent on Lake Pend Oreille in Sandpoint

New in 2023, the Gypsy bell tent is now family sized and sits on a big, beautiful deck! The 20-foot LiT Fernweh tent can sleep up to six with space for a living room setting. This beauty and beast of a bell tent features fantastic views of beautiful Lake Pend Oreille and is just a short walk from a private beach or an outdoor hot tub. Watch the sun rise over the Cabinet Mountains and plan your day in this outdoor paradise. Just steps away is a unique camp kitchen and bathhouse built with reclaimed wood and metal, where you can take a hot shower and prepare a meal with all the comforts of home. And you're surrounded by a lakefront ranch with horses and chickens!
The fabulous Fernweh bell tent is furnished with one queen bed, two twin tri-fold mattress/sofa beds, and one full-size tri-fold mattress/sofa bed in a living room-like setting for up to six guests. Disconnect and enjoy nature while overlooking Lake Pend Oreille. Guests can relax around their own fire pit while watching the sun set and the moon rise. And campwood is included!
Exclusively for the use of Gypsy bell tent guests, the mobile outdoor camp kitchen and bathroom includes a double porcelain sink and counter made from a slab of blued ponderosa pine. The camp bathroom features a 36-inch neo-angle shower stall with hot running water and a traditional flush toilet. Glamping at its finest! Access to the lake is a two-minute walk away, either at the privately owned beach just across the road (marked by a wooden privacy fence and a sign for our business, Twin Cedars Camping and Vacation Rentals) or at the Hawkins Point Public Boat Dock. Access to the outdoor hot tub is about a 5-minute walk or a short drive to the other side of the property, where you'll find it located behind the house at 5507 Sunnyside Road.
The unique furnishings and luxurious bedding might make you want to stay in the tent, but outside there is so much to explore. The resort town of Sandpoint, Idaho, is just a 20-minute drive away. The Cabinet, Selkirk and Coeur d'Alene mountains surround one of the largest, deepest lakes in the world: Pend Oreille. And it's all at your doorstep.
This lakefront ranch at Hawkins Point on Lake Pend Oreille has been in the same family since 1944. There is no other property like it on the entire 111 miles of shoreline!
Please note, the tent isn't dog friendly. The Boho bell tent on the beach does allow dogs, however, so consider renting it instead. The pitching of additional tents is also not allowed. The adjacent RV site is about 150 feet away from the tent. This side of the property is designed for our guests who want more privacy and peacefulness while they enjoy the view of the lake and the open skies above.
As a side note, the ramp and step leading into the camp kitchen and bathhouse or the walkway up to the bell tent may pose an issue for those with mobility issues.
Guests are invited to park near the camp kitchen/bathhouse, where they can easily unload their food, gear and other belongings. The 10+ acre property includes a private beach with a dock and concrete boat ramp suitable for paddlecraft; an outdoor hot tub; and gardens and fruit trees that guests are invited to harvest.
Sunnyside is a rural Sandpoint neighborhood on the north shore of Lake Pend Oreille, where there's a mix of farmland and family homes. This is a popular recreation area with Sunnyside Access, Hawkins Point Boat Launch and Oden Wildlife Management Area. Many families have been here for decades, including the family that owns the property at Hawkins Point. People come here to fish, swim, ride bicycles, paddle, go boating and more.
Horses, poultry, cats and dogs live on the property. All amenities, including the private beach and hot tub, are available to all of our guests. The house, a bell tent on the beach, three RV sites, and one tiny home are vacation rentals during the summer season, primarily from May through October. The closest RV site is about 150 feet away from the bell tent and shares the same driveway. The other three are on the other side of the property and accessed via a separate driveway. The adjoining property has two rental homes that are 300 to 400 feet away from the bell tent.

Wonderful
The tent and kitchen/bath trailer was very comfortable & had everything we needed. More places to hang wet towels & jackets would have been helpful

The view was beautiful. Everything was just what we needed for the weekend.
Great experience something we had never done. We love to camp and be outdoors. This was a treat. Watching the Eagles and deer were beautiful. Loved the area and just a great time.

Not as pictured
The property is not beachfront as pictured, the Hot tub is shared by other guests and not close to the yurt (across a field) to which the other guests misused therefore it was not available during our visit, the Yurt is not a standard size Yurt and is not recommended for those over 5'5". The residents behind the property are very loud and ruined any peace and tranquillity with the bass of the music thumping. Maybe more ideal for younger visitors

What a great find
It was a great weekend- property clean and quaint. The only complaint I had was there was no mirror in the bathroom or in the tent- it was hard to get ready for dinner without a mirror- other than that it was perfect!

I'm a backcountry horse woman, downhill skier and bicyclist who loves the outdoors and being active. I retired in 2016 from working professionally as an editor for a local publishing company for 25 years, editing Sandpoint Magazine, Schweitzer Magazine and books, such as trail guides and natural history titles. I have one dog, Beau, whom I call a North Idaho hound terrier, an Arabian/quarter horse mare named Bunny, a filly named Karat born June 1, 2019, and a mule named Buner Pie. Originally from Wisconsin, I grew up in North Idaho riding horses, skiing, snowmobiling, dirt biking and voraciously reading books. While I was growing up in Sandpoint and Bayview in the 1970s-80s, I lived without electricity and running water three different times, so I'm not afraid of outhouses or roughing it. After graduating from Sandpoint High School in 1985, I moved back to Madison, Wisconsin, and earned a degree in journalism at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. I returned to Sandpoint in 1990, bought property, married, built a house, raised a son and stepdaughter, got unmarried, and am now married to my present partner, Mike, whom I convinced to join me in offering vacation rentals. We formed Twin Cedars Camping and Vacation Rentals LLC in 2014 with the goal of semi-retiring together. Between the two of us and our properties, we have two homes, five RV sites, a camping cabin and two bell tents. We live in each of our homes for half the year, while the other home is open as a vacation rental. I'm a home brewer who's passionate about good beer, cooking from scratch, and seemingly endless home improvement projects. Mike is a private pilot, and we enjoy flying around the area and airplane camping, as well as backcountry trail riding and horse camping. I love having guests and sharing my knowledge of the area. We live in an outdoor paradise, and we like to share our pieces of paradise with others.

Voici pourquoi l’hôte a choisi cet hébergement

The property at Hawkins Point has been in my husband's family since 1944, when his great grandfather bought it. The 10+ acres my husband owns is part of a 36-acre family estate at Hawkins Point on Lake Pend Oreille. His property includes a 2,500-square-foot home that is a vacation rental for part of the year and a few RV sites. Horses and chickens live on the property. The Hawkins Point public boat dock is next door and makes it easy to launch and take out boats.

Sunnyside is a desirable neighborhood close to Sandpoint, Idaho, where folks enjoy living out in the country on or near the lake. It's also a popular recreation area with public access at the Oden Wildlife Management Area, Sunnyside Access, Hawkins Point and shoreline managed by Idaho Fish and Game. The area includes longtime residents and more recent transplants to the area, as well as seasonal residents. Sunnyside is teeming with wildlife, from waterfowl to big game, while Lake Pend Oreille is home to many species of fish, including rainbow trout, kokanee, bass, whitefish, perch, bull trout and more. The lake has a thriving fishery and with 111 miles of shoreline, much of it public, there's a lot to explore by boat, canoe or kayak, or by hiking, bicycling and horseback riding. Sunnyside is between Sandpoint and Hope, Idaho, and either town may be accessed by boat or car for dining, shopping, concerts and other events.
