You’ll love the relaxed, welcoming feel of this spacious country home with its wraparound deck and hot tub overlooking the Sacramento River. Built for comfort and convenience rather than flash, “Frankie’s” is all about space, warmth, and togetherness—perfect for large groups, family gatherings, and kids.
With two floors and an expansive deck surrounded by tall pines, guests can spread out or come together naturally. The large living room features a rock fireplace, flat-screen TV, and sliding doors leading to the deck for BBQs and relaxing under the trees. The kitchen is designed for entertaining, complete with a wine fridge, keg cooler, and everything needed for family meals, game days, or weekend fun.
Downstairs includes two bedrooms and two full baths—one with a king bed and heated floors, the other with a queen. Upstairs, you’ll find two more bedrooms, a half bath, and a cozy family room with a large TV—an ideal hangout for kids or late-night movies.
Located in a quiet North Dunsmuir neighborhood, the home is just minutes from the City Pool, Botanical Gardens, and great local dining at The Dunsmuir Brewery Works and Yaks. The area also offers excellent fishing spots, swimming holes, and easy access to The Fly Shop.
Please note: a train passes along the river below, so light sleepers may want to bring earplugs. Up to two dogs are welcome with a pet fee ($40 per pet per stay). The hot tub is included and ready for you to unwind under the stars.

The kitchen had everything we needed, house well stocked with amenities, clean sheets and house!A few things stood out though, keeping this from 5 stars. The hot tub went out, looks like it needs servicing and a breaker blew. The firewood was too large to fit in the wood stove, which was a disconnect.Great place!

The area is so beautiful with house nestled into that spot where you can hear the train passing by. Our host were so easy to contact, I made several contacts with them prior to arriving and they responded right away. Thank you for a lovely time.

The hot tub malfunctioned and had an electrical fire while we were in it. We left a phone message with the number listed for the property manager. A hot tub technician showed up and looked at it. We did not receive any follow up communication, compensation, or apology. The only reason we rent this place is the hot tub.

The cabin is located near family so it worked for us. If the beds had been laundered when we arrived it would have improved our stay but overall we enjoyed our stay and felt the cabin was well stocked.

Dunsmuir House

Spent two days with family. Spacious. Clean. 4 bedrooms. Great kitchen. Worked great for us. Heating upstairs involves an electric space heater which works well. Downstairs involves some kind of natural gas fired heater in living room and not central heating. Needed to increase the temp to 72 from where it was set (68) in order to make sure the bedrooms at other end of floor were not cold.

Relaxing and quiet.

Other than the train, this place was peaceful and quiet. The train goes by a few times a day and night. I loved it. I grew up close to a train track and it was nostalgic for me. For the rest of my group they didn’t love it or hate it. There was lots of room for everyone. We enjoyed the porch and jacuzzi. There were plenty of amenities. There are lots of good restaurant near by. The lake was about 40 minutes away, but I think the town of Dunsmuir is preferable to further downhill. It’s a lot cooler. Looking forward to returning next summer.

Bring Your Ear Plugs

Main reason for the 3 stars was the noise. We stayed on a Friday and Saturday night and each night the train whistles woke everyone up at least 3 times during the night. The second night we all had earbuds so we fared better. It is not a true 4 bedroom as one of the bedrooms has no closet. And another is extremely tiny barely fitting a double bed. Some other factors. Property was a bit dilapidated. Neighborhood as well. Lotta poison oak on the path down to the river. Hot tub was super nice. Excellent that it is dog friendly. It was super hot in the bedrooms despite the portable ac units attached to the windows. Spot is convenient to make trips to Castle and Siskiyou Lake. I would not recommend.

Franke's Retreat was even better than it appears in the Vrbo photos. Franke's was roomy, comfortable, and came with a surprising amount of amenities. We loved the hot tub, the kitchen, and the heated floors in the bathrooms. We also took advantage of the dens (both upstairs and downstairs) and the grill on the deck. The location was also fantastic. You're around 5-15 minutes away from everything in the Dunsmuir area (golf, Castle Crags, Mossbrae Falls, etc.). The Upper Sacramento is just down the hill, and overall a really beautiful, quiet (except for the trains), scenic area. I would highly recommend!

Its not the Taj Mahal or a 5 star resort so please review the pictures before you rent. Don't get the wrong Idea, this home is clean and well maintained and we want you to rent it and enjoy it but if your looking for the lates in Short Term Rental fashion you may be disappointed. We clean and preform maintenance regularly on the hot tub and make every effort to ensure this accommodation is available to you. Due to the rough weather conditions of Far Norther California, the electrical grid and appliances connected to them take a beating as well as other issues such a frozen / cracked pipes. This is a remote part of the state with major parts houses and service tecs over a hour away. We understand the hot tub is a primary amenity guest are looking for and due our utmost best to make sure its available when you arrive.
