The Whiting Cottage is your quintessential “classic Maine cottage.” Built in 1880, it is full of charm and ornate detail with lots and lots of room.

2-3 night minimum September to late June.
Sunday to Sunday, 7 day rental late June thru Labor Day.

It’s perfect for hosting families, friends, company outings, as well as your unique special event - with 8 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, 5 living rooms, 3 kitchens, 1 kitchenette, there is plenty of space to spread out, or to be together! Classic large kitchen area to have those large gatherings around the table….let the memories begin! The entire home has the capability to split into 4 separate units, so would be perfect for families and friends to come together or have their own separate space.

The balcony is one of the best spots in the house to sit and relax and breathe the fresh salty air (we might be biased), accompanied by a large deck and huge front farmers porch (perfect for relaxing and watching the world go by!)! No worries about parking, there is plenty! Whether you are here to vacation, a romantic getaway, or attending a wedding, corporate event, family reunions, or whatever it may be, the Whiting Cottage is waiting for you - Be Our Guest!

We offer high-speed wireless internet access and have 2 Smart TV's where you can stream any of your favorites: Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Disney+, etc! There is no cable.

Updated kitchen appliances and washer + dryer!

Leave your car in the driveway…walk to the beach!
Walk across the street and you will find the Cliff Walk - where you can have the best walk to the beach or do it for the bold views of the Atlantic Ocean! Catch the Fishermans walk starting at York Harbor Beach, follow it to the Wiggly Bridge, and walk over the Rte.103 bridge will land you at The Deck and Dockside!

I do not have enough kind words to say about Mark and the team at Whiting Cottage. He was the most amazing host: communicative, friendly, and helpful! He truly went above and beyond. The property was equally as incredible. It was clean, had everything you needed for a beach weekend and family gathering, and was so spacious that each family we were with had their own room. This was particularly helpful for those of us traveling with babies who used the rooms with the kitchenettes to make and store bottles, etc. We absolutely loved our stay at the Whiting Cottage and hope to visit again soon!!

What a week!

Our crew of 21 (8 adults and 13 kids) have been coming to York for 4 years. This year we needed to find a bigger space and this house couldn’t have been more perfect for our FRamily. Before I get to the details of the home itself, I have to take a moment to commend Mark on being such an amazing host! He truly went above and beyond to make our week special. The house is perfect for large groups. We have 4 separate families in our group so having the space to spread out is nice- but also come together for meals, movies, games, hangouts, etc is awesome. We already booked to come back next summer- can’t wait to continue making memories at this beautiful home.

Wonderful Home for Our Family Reunion

Our extended family spanning three generations thoroughly enjoyed the annual reunion. A major contributing factor was Mark's warm and generous hospitality. From prebooking to throughout our weeklong stay, he was kind, responsive and more than accommodating. The home itself met our needs and preferences so well. We especially appreciated that we could convene as a group in numerous parts of the house, but also enjoy privacy and quiet moments when desired.Of all the vacation home rentals we've been in over the years, the Whiting Cottage's kitchen was the most well stocked we've seen. The gift basket and fresh flowers were welcoming bonuses greeting us upon arrival. A culinary highlight of the week was the lobster meal including lobster bisque from Southern Maine Lobster Company. The York location was perfectly suited for visiting Coastal Maine.Thank you, Kinton family, for sharing your amazingly lovely home. We cherish the wonderful memories that were created during our stay.

Best Best Best!

It is usually location .. location … location … but this host and home are the best. To say the house is a “rambler” understates it. This is a large beautifully detailed house. We were a 50th Reunion of men from U Maine. Playing golf, cook outs and stories. The house: A main kitchen … which become the gathering spot however several rooms have mini kitchenettes. If someone wants some privacy… you have it. Mark, our host and his family goes above and beyond. From lobster recommendations (they are so fresh !!!!). To making sure every need was met. The location is central to everything. If I could give SIX stars I would gladly do so. Mark many thanks!! OFS U Maine 1975

Co/Bachelor wedding party gathering🌈

This property was even better than we imagined! It was so clean, the owners were amazing, very communicative and helpful:) We all had our own space so we could take private moments as well as bond and congregate in the main living room/kitchen/dining areas/porches etc. The house is also very conveniently located. We had such a blast that we all agreed we may have to stay here again soon:)

Incredible Property and Host

Gathered my large group together for a weekend, and was surprised by the accommodations. Mark met me onsight to show me the property, and everything about it. Nice personalized experience with plenty of space for everyone to stay. High attention to detail throughout the house. Hard to find a large enough place for my group but this had the room for us. If for some reason I have a need for that style weekend again up here, I'll look to this property first.

FIVE-STAR All around!!

The property did not disappoint! It exceeded our hopes and expectations! The host was no small part of that achievement! The house accommodated our group of 13 without even stretching its capacities! We absolutely LOVED our stay, even when it rained most of the day on the Saturday of our getaway weekend. We would come back in an instant, and extend our enjoyment of the house, the property, the easy walk to the Cliff Walk along the Atlantic Coast of Maine, the York shops, the easy access to Outlet stores in Kittery and Freeport! We like to cook, and the kitchen was well-equipped to comfortably support our group, and beyond! Our hosts were beyond welcoming, accommodating, and generous!

The perfect spot for a fall weekend away!

This property is amazing! It is way bigger in person and accommodates large groups or even smaller groups who each want their own bedroom and bathroom. The house is a quick walk to the gorgeous Cliff Walk. We spent Saturday in Portsmouth for a girls shopping weekend York was the perfect place to call home for a few days. Highly recommend!

Awesome Home, Great Host

Mark was a great host! Very informative at the start of our 4 day stay that greatly assisted us and our whole crew throughout the weekend. The house is HUGE! It was a great place for a large group while giving everyone their own space so it didn't feel like we were always on top of each other, etc. Thanks Mark!

Daughter’s Wedding

The Whiting House is an absolutely beautiful, clean, well decorated venue. It provided excellent accommodations for my family, the bridal party and our close relatives. The first floor living room wing was used as the bridal suite for wedding preparations for the bride and bridesmaids. The front porch is so large that one side was used for the rehearsal dinner and the other side was filled with outside seating to relax. The large main kitchen allowed for morning coffee and breakfast. Everyone remarked on how lovely and accommodating the venue was for this event. Mark was a wonderful host who communicates well and offered suggestions to help us make wonderful memories for a lifetime. So very grateful to him. His family are very good people and this is a highly recommended venue.

York Maine family vacation

Lovely large home which accommodated all 15 of us. Plenty of room to be together or spread out on our own. Very nice front porch even on a rainy day. Great beaches close by to enjoy. We hit the jackpot with this house

My extended family of fifteen (ages 16-87) came to celebrate our parents 60th wedding anniversary. I can’t say enough wonderful things about this house and our host. Mark was so accommodating in many ways. The house is, by far, the cleanest rental I’ve ever stayed in and the location is perfect. It’s close to the beach, ice cream, and shopping; yet, it’s quiet at night The house has plenty of space to all be together or have alone time. Mark was a great resource for restaurants. We ate out some nights, but cooked as well. The kitchen is very functional. We loved our week there!

Fantastic home for large group near beachs

This large expensive home, which has been recently renovated and was an excellent choice for a large extended family. We were a group of 13 adults and four children and we had plenty of space for all of us to come together for meals, socializing, games, as well as privacy, if desired. This wonderful home was immaculately clean and had all of the amenities we required, and then some. Tom was an excellent host and could not have been more accommodating, polite and did everything possible to ensure our stay was enjoyable. He was a pleasure to work with. The location was excellent as we could walk to one beach within a few minutes or drive to other beaches five minutes away. Likewise, York is within close proximity to Portsmouth, Ogunquit and other wonderful locations along the Maine and New Hampshirite coast. We look forward to returning as soon as possible

Perfect Maine Getaway

This home and the owners are exceptional all around! From pre-arrival communications, unbelievably accommodating upon arrival, and availability at all hours to troubleshoot or give advice during the week we were there! We could not have asked for better hosts! The layout of the home was perfect for our large family. Plenty of room to gather or spread out, prime location close to many great restaurants, beaches and idyllic walks along the coast. There are not enough positive adjectives to describe our experience at this Cottage. We will be back!!!

This is our family's venture!
Our roots are from various parts of New England; from Woburn and Arlington, Massachusetts, Hamden, Connecticut, and Dover, New Hampshire, we all made our way to beautiful York, Maine. Our individual paths crossed over the years and we have collectively all been residents of York, Maine for over 30 years. Erin, Mike and Mark have served the public in a variety of ways including the fields of education, law enforcement, and the medical profession. Lauren (owner of The Opal Society), Thomas (co-owner of Southern Maine Lobster Company), and Anna (owner of Anna Grace Design) are all local entrepreneurs and their expertise and services include cosmetology, graphic design and the lobster industry.

We are hard-working people that value family and the relationships with our friends. Over the years, and through life experiences, we have been fortunate to come to understand and appreciate the gifts of humility and gratitude.

We purchased the Whiting Cottage in January 2022. After many hours of hard work, tough decisions, and difficult times we stand on our feet today very proud of our accomplishment. The amount of blood, sweat and tears that went into restoring and “shining up” the property has all been worth it. Knowing this, it was an easy decision for us to want to share its historic charm, elegance, and allure; it is truly timeless. It is our honor to have you as our guests at the Whiting Cottage while you “experience” York with all its history and beauty.
We are vested in this property and take great pride in being able to share it with you.
