Community Winter travel policy:
Winter Road Travel and Emergency Parking: We make every effort to ensure the roads are timely plowed and sanded. However, during ongoing storms our roads (like all steep gravel roads in Vermont) can be treacherous. Members, visitors and guests will likely need good snow tires or chains to travel most of our roadways in snowy conditions, and definitely to access the steeper portions of the road during a storm. Four-wheel drive alone is inadequate on many snowy portions of roads when a car does not have winter tires/snow tires. Tires rated âall-seasonâ for city driving are not considered winter tires/snow tires and will not make it up steeper roadways in a snowstorm. Please advise your guests and renters accordingly! Reminder: emergency parking areas are located on Timber Hawk Road (at the first open clearing on the right, marked by two wooden posts) and at the bottom of Westwind Drive. These areas may be used on a short-term basis when a car cannot make it up the road during a storm. Be prepared: Anyone driving back roads in winter, especially at night, should ensure that they are equipped with flashlights/headlamps and shoes suitable for walking uphill in the snow. We expect all owners, guests and renters to drive and act responsibly at all times. If a vehicle becomes stuck or disabled, it poses a risk to plow operators and other drivers. It is the vehicle ownerâs responsibility to get it dislodged, at their own expense. Weâve had a few instances in the past year of stuck vehicles damaging roads and culverts; if you damage infrastructure, please report it so we can get it fixed.
