Everything was lovely. The pool wasn't open due to pollen, but we were fine without it. Loved the handball court.

The property and the view are amazing! It is truly a peaceful and beautiful place. Exploring the grounds was wonderful and despite it being early for the pool it was nice to have given one of our days was very hot. The pool house bedrooms are all sectioned off by dividers so you can hear everything in every bedroom throughout so if you are looking for privacy in this area, that's not really possible. The main house is very interesting and eclectic. The racquetball court was a hit with our group for sure! I don't think you can comfortably sleeps 20 people adults in the main house but it was good for our group of 18 between the iconic gem and the pool house. I few cleaning issues in the kitchen. Host was responsive.

It was so great to have thd pool open in September! It was cold but the children enjoyed it. The squash court was a hit! Lots of raquets and balls made great fun for all! The house was plenty large for our group of 27! A floorplan of the house would be helpful since it is such a large house!!

Great Place for a Group
This was a group of 55+ friends from college. Perfect place for the event. Plenty of room and didn't have to leave the property at all. Highly recommended!

Wedding Gathering
Perfect venue to house our out of state family guests for our son's wedding. A short drive to the wedding venue, it was a perfect location and layout for multiple generations of visitors. The layout allows for privacy as well as activities that appealed to various interests from walks, exercise, games and conversations at the firepit. The hosts offer a clean, well stocked home that shows the pride and love of their families project. Highly recommended.

Overall, this is a very unique house. I rented both the main house and the pool pavilion. Although the house was originally a custom build, the rooms are very broken up with many stairs and levels & spiral stair cases. The is only one bathroom open to guests & those staying in the bedrooms without an en suite in the main house (and, it's connected to the primary bath connected to primary bedroom.) So anyone sleeping in the 3rd level bedroom or the upper bedrooms off the Billiards room have to go all the way down to the first level to this bathroom. In the Pool Pavilion, the two bathrooms are essentially a ladies and mens restroom you find in a commercial space. This space was previously an event venue. The "semi-private" bedrooms were configures in spaces that were once entertainment spaces separated with either curtains, or formerly office cubical separator walls. Overall, for our family gathering of 16, both the home and pool pavilion worked, but it was tricky deciding who would have to climb stairs to their bedroom (and many family members have health issues.)Interior: could have been cleaner, many areas such as kitchen floor needed a vacuum, the refrigerator freezer off the kitchen in the laundry room wasn't cleaned, something spilled inside and a terrible odor, unusable.Kitchens in both houses were well equipped.Outside: Needs a lot of work! The landscaping-very neglected, especially the ponds, exterior furniture very dirty, even the bench at the front door.

À propos de l ’hôte
Hôte : Alyson Stinson
I am Alyson, the host. Our property is managed by Tina who you will be speaking to directly when arranging your stay on Our 100 acres estate private property in Midlothian. She has "Super Host" status and she will take excellent care of you from beginning to end of your stay.
My parents are the owners of this unique home. They are Jim and Paulanne Thacker. They raised 3 girls and loved life, friends, and family. They built the home knowing they wanted family and friends to join them for all occasions. We celebrated holidays, birthdays, weddings, and business functions among others with many special people for 40-plus years.
For several years our father drove a car at Southside Speedway in the late model division "just for kicks". Memorabilia can be seen in the pool room and garage. He had many unique hobbies and was certainly a unique man. Our father passed away in 2010.
The home construction took over 3 years and was completed in 1980. Our parents along with their architect enjoyed designing all of the many details of the home. The exterior rooflines and exterior windows inside became a theme throughout. The pavilion was added 15 years later and was most enjoyed by family and friends alike.
Our father and our sister Lori established a wedding business "Celebrations At The Reservoir" offering multiple beautiful wedding locations in and around the estate property (excluding the main house/Iconic Gem) for 17 years. Due to our sister, Lori's death in 2019 Celebrations terminated the wedding business in 2021. Shortly after Lori's death, our mother Paulanne moved to a smaller home.
My sister Carol and I then took over the management of the estate and properties and were then faced with the upkeep expenses. Knowing how our parents enjoyed sharing their home we decided to prepare the homes for short-term rental and begin to share our blessings in this way.
We hope you all enjoy the beauty that we love and have appreciated for many years.
Voici pourquoi l’hôte a choisi cet hébergement
Our parents purchased this unique Midlothian property thinking they would own horses as our sister Lori loved to ride. They never owned horses but they did have cows on the property and kept them in the field near the Manor house for a while. The Manor house was the only home on the 100 acre property when Jim and Paulanne purchased it. They rented the home as a "long term" rental before it became the office and wedding site of "Celebrations".
Certainly the beauty of the reservoir was also a draw when purchasing the property. When purchased in the mid 70's, Woolridge Road was a "country" road and the popular neighborhoods Woodlake and Brandermill did not exist. The area has changed considerably through the years. Now, new neighborhoods and shopping is abundant.
Voici ce qui rend cet hébergement unique
Our parents loved enjoying walks along the water and after building the home Jim and Paulanne began to create the walkways and gazebos. They hired a man named Gene Morris who was a stone mason. Gene spent years building stone walkways and walls around the property. Gene became a dear friend of our parents as well as did many men and women who worked on the property. Our parents were truly opened arms loving people. Our mother takes pleasure knowing that you also will also enjoy the walkways and "sitting areas" as mom called them around the property.
