Up North Luxury w/Unmatched Charm! 2 miles to MTU!
Experience the Copper Country's natural beauty from our premier property! The Portage Centre is spacious, perfect for entertaining & tastefully remodeled to pay tribute to the areaâs rich ice hockey tradition.
The Portage Centre is the foremost destination for adventure seekers, & large families as it sits at the gateway to the Keweenaw, & is located just steps from the famed Jack Stevens snowmobile trail and Portage Canal.
In 2025, a portion of all bookings will donated to local youth hockey.
The building has a long history as The General Glass Company, but the owners purchased the building to specifically create the Portage Centre. The Portage Centre is a fully remodeled 3 bed/3 bath luxury home. The guest area consists of the entire 1750 sf main floor while the basement was retained by the owner for storage, a caretaker apartment and is inaccessible to guests. While staying at The Portage Centre, guests do not share spaces or amenities with anyone else.
Guests are provided access to the entire apartment.
I may or may not be available during your stay, but we have a property manager that lives in the area, and is available.
The Keweenaw Peninsula is a four season destination, and is exciting for everyone because there is always something to do! You can enjoy our pristine fresh water beaches in the summer because we are salt free! Seek adventure on the worldâs best snowmobile trails because we get up to 25 feet of snow each winter! If you are looking for a quiet vacation then visit this spring to hunt morel mushrooms! If fall is more your speed, then come for the great weather and breathtaking colors. After all, it doesnât matter what time of the year you arrive, we always have something wonderful to experience!
If you are looking to steep yourself in rich culture, then the Copper Country is the place to visit! We have roughly 68 museums, attractions and ghost towns to explore! Come catch a play at Michigan Techâs Rozsa Center, or visit the historic Calumet Theater to step back in time! Visit the birthplace of professional hockey. Watch your Michigan Tech Huskies battle the nationâs top collegiate hockey teams at the John McGinnis Ice Center!
The Portage Centre is located directly off of US41 in downtown Hancock and provides easy access to Michigan Tech, Houghton and the Keweenaw Peninsula.
While staying at The Portage Centre, guests do not share spaces or amenities with anyone else. The property is located along Hancock Street (US41) and is in the middle of everything. If you are a light sleeper there is a chance the traffic noise could wake you in the front bedroom. The Master bedroom is located in the rear of the building and traffic will not affect most sleepers. That said, we are in the middle of everything and you can walk to most everything in downtown Houghton and Hancock!
