à propos de cet hébergement
Remote, off-grid island cabin in The Forks.
We're offering our off-the-grid island cabin in the gateway to the north Maine woods. The property offers main land parking, solar power, outhouse, and sleeping for 8. Note that there is no cell service on the island (IPhone 14 and up can connect to satellite to send and receive messages of to call 911) you will truly be unplugged once youâre there. Non-potable water comes from the lake, so youâll need to bring your drinking water. Bring your favorite mode of water travel (we do not offer a boat) for the short trip from the public launch to the cabin.
The space
OFF-THE-GRID property! You will be remote, and with only basic amenities. We use it to truly unplug and get away from hustle and bustle of the daily grind.
Using solar power and propane, (conditions permitting) we have indoor lights, USB chargers and a refrigerator. There is a gas range and microwave for cooking. There are no showers available. We have a solar generator and provide the propane used to power these amenities. Electricity is impacted by days without direct sunlight for recharging, so the need to light an oil lamp at night is possible depending on weather conditions.
.
IMPORTANT:
There is NO cell phone reception or internet on the island. You are able to make a phone call on the main land, just a short drive from boat landing and there are certain locations that offer guest Wifi just a few minutes away if needed.
THE CABIN:
The cabin is clean and cozy and offers a wonderful space for a great getaway. It has a small kitchen table with four chairs, with extra chairs available for additional guests, a gas range, and a cozy fieldstone fireplace. The cabin has a catwalk attaching the two loft bedrooms upstairs. This space is NOT suitable for young children as it only has log railings across the catwalk and steep cliffs around the island! Infants and children over 5 are welcome.
Two Adirondack chairs sit out on the point overlooking the lake.
SLEEPING:
3 double beds upstairs, sleeps 6.
4 twin beds on the front porch, sleeps 4. With 2 extra twin mattresses for extra guests.
The futon in the living room can sleep 2 small to medium adults.
This cabin can sleep up to 12, but is most comfortable with no more than 8.
ACTIVITIES:
Bring your own boat. The lake is large and beautiful. There is plenty of room for exploring and fishing. Watch for rocks and shallow spots along the shore line.
The region offers world-class whitewater rafting down the Kennebec or the Dead River in The Forks through a multitude of companies.
You can rent inner tubes to float down the Kennebec river.
Greenville (Moosehead lake) is about a 35 minute drive down relatively well-kept logging roads. Bring a map with you, because GPS ca be spotty in places.
There is an eagle that lives on the back side of the island. It is common to see him flying overhead. You will hear the loons talking to each other at night. Keep a look out for moose on the main land.
Bald mountain and mosquito mountain are great local hikes, and the camp road on the main land is well-kept and great for mountain biking!
Don't forget to stop and check out the stars before you go to bed! There are not many places left with that view :)
Moxie Falls is Maine's largest waterfall, and only a few miles down the road. It's a short hike in from the parking (less than a mile), down nice trails, and the falls are impressive.
ATV trail system is nearby.
Great hunting and fishing through the region!
