We enjoyed sitting on the porch to watch the waves and listen to them crashing on the beach. We also loved the direct access to the beach. This was our first trip to the beach with our rescue dog; and the setup was great for us to introduce him to the beach, which he loved exploring.

We had an excellent stay at Nena's! The house has the old Outer Banks feel to it, in a good way!Being right on the beach was a huge plus to see sunrises every morning coming over the ocean horizon. Beign there on July 4th, we got quite the fireworks show for miles up and down the beach and including the show at Avalon Pier. There is a convenient boardwalk from the house to the top of the dune for getting to the beach, but you do climb up on the way back but that is to be expected with the Outer Banks. The owner was responsive to an issue with the outside screen door and had the door replaced during our stay and kept good communication. We had 3 adults 2, grown teenagers, and 3 dogs, and while it was tight it was still comfortable. If you are planning to be mainly on the beach or go shopping and use Nena's as a home base for rest, this place is perfect!

Overall okay stay and would probably stay again. Pros: great location on beach, comfortable king bed, working TVs, washer and dryer, pet friendly!Cons: pet fee requirement wasn’t listed on website, AC was broken and house got up to 83degs, strong septic smell in house (we didn’t do any loads of laundry), and had to wash utensils and clean out/soak whole coffee machine before they were usable.

Thank you so much for staying at Nenas! We are thrilled to hear you had a great stay. We’ve been working hard to ensure the home is in top shape and with the HVAC system breaking down on the last day of your stay, we replaced with a brand-new HVAC system—both the inside and outside units were replaced right after your stay. We also prioritize essential maintenance, like recently pumping the septic tank, to ensure a seamless experience for our guests. The oder was caused from running the washing machine multiple times, toilets and showers. The tank needs time to drain. We love welcoming furry friends and take pride in offering a flat $150 pet fee. We know many other places charge per pet, so we want to make it as easy and affordable as possible for the whole family to travel together!

Perfect week at the beach!

Our family of 4 loved staying at Nena’s oceanfront! The beach is just steps away from the house and the house was clean and comfortable for our family! The views (especially sunrises) were stunning! We loved relaxing on the beach, swimming in the ocean, and doing a little surf fishing! It was the perfect week!

We wanted an old school cottage on the beach and this was the perfect spot for my husband, myself and our dog! Great location--there's a coffee shop within walking distance and lots of great restaurants just a bike ride (or drive/walk) away. Kitchen was stocked with everything you need to cook. Couches were comfy and having windows open at night to hear the ocean was awesome! There is easy access to walk across the dunes and onto the beach too. We'll be back for sure!

Gem of the Outer Banks

Nena’s was the perfect getaway for our young family! We loved the charm and character of the home and it was very clean when we arrived. The screened in porch is what makes this house so special and we spent a lot of our time out there. The beach was only steps away and not crowded at all. Nena’s is a hidden gem! We can’t wait to come back!

Rejuvenating get away

My husband and I found this rental to be the perfect spot for us to get away from it all. The ocean front location could not be better and we enjoyed the sunrise every morning. The house is just the right size for a small family or a couple. It was clean and the porch was perfect for us to enjoy when the sun got too hot. We hope to be back!

The Right Fit for Our Trip

The oceanfront location was exactly what we wanted for this trip to the beach. The size of the house fit our needs, and the screened-in porch was wonderful for relaxing with a book while watching and listening to the waves, enjoying a meal, or checking out the beach for a walk. The location also was convenient for visiting area attractions and checking out restaurants. This was our first time using Vrbo, and the owner was friendly and quick to respond to our questions. We were fortunate to have our son with us to help spot traffic to get out of the parking space.

Kitty Hawk Beach Week 5/2024

We had a really nice time on our trip. The beginning of the week was rainy and we were so glad to have the covered porch so we could still be outside. The sunrises are absolutely stunning! In addition, we saw SO much wild life on land and in the water. I have never seen so many dolphins, porpoises, and even a whale tail splash one time!! If you are looking for a great location, close beach access and a home that isn't fancy, but will meet your needs then this is the place!

Amazing location for those who can bring everything with them.

Overall we enjoyed our stay. This is a good place to pick if you are willing to bring almost every amenity/necessity with you (all sheets, towels-kitchen, hand, bath, beach, tp, paper towel, hand soap, shampoo, bath mat). It is amazingly close to the ocean and has a great view. Though we didn’t realize we’d have to climb over a dune to get to the beach. This could be problematic for older and very young guests. Mattresses really need to be replaced. Good place to pick for people who are able to pack A LOT and are willing to give up amenities for great location.

Excellent!

First off communication was superb! We had the few questions we asked quickly. We had 1 issue that was fixed that same day. The place itself was perfect. It’s right there on the beach. We brought our 2 dogs and they loved it. And it gave us peace of mind because we didn’t have to deal with crossing streets etc. Just down some stairs up the dune and we were there. The dune was much easier for the dogs than us but it wasn’t too bad. Did I mention the porch? I probably should because I spent every morning there enjoying the sunrise and eating breakfast. It gives you a spectacular view of the beach and ocean. There’s a side deck as well that we enjoyed. A small thing i appreciated was actually having a gas grill outside. I am a horrible cook with charcoal so it was nice to have that as an option The washer and dryer was great! You are at a beach so you’ll need to do some general sweeping etc but that was to be expected. I would also recommend backing into the driveway. It wakes it much much easier when trying to get out on the main road. If I had a slight criticism it would be the bed in the room closest to the beach. It may have had its best years already but it wasn’t a deal breaker. We absolutely would love to go back !

Lovely, pet friendly, cozy cottage with ocean front view which was perfect for watching beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Direct access to beach. Initially a little concerned about short driveway and backing onto road but was not an issue. Central for accessing activities, restaurants and shops. Nice enclosed oceanfront porch which is great for eating meals or sitting and relaxing without having to worry about weather. Kitchen is well equipped with cooking supplies and dish ware for meals. Quick response to our messages.

À propos de l’hôte

Hôte : Mark Cochran

Image de profil de l’hôte
I live in NH, but spend most of my time in the OBX. I grew up staying at my grandparents cottage (Nena and Grandad's) as a child. This cottage reminded me of my grandma's cottage so I named it after her.

Voici pourquoi l’hôte a choisi cet hébergement

I've been coming to the OBX since the late 70s. We spent most of our time in Kitty Hawk. One of my favorite towns to visit as well as Duck.

Voici ce qui rend cet hébergement unique

Screened in porch with fantastic oceanfront views. One of the few old traditional 1960s nags head feel. Not gutted like many of the other cottages.
