Staying at Casa Celeste feels like you are spending your days in your own beach front private nature reserve. A natural corridor for many of Costa Rica’s wildlife. Listening to the sounds of the waves all day is a truly peaceful experience. Enjoy your own private pool, outdoor ocean view bathtub & shower, BBQ, beach bonfires, yoga deck, hammocks, outdoor seating & entertaining area. Our home is an ocean front facing open modern living concept. Daily housekeeping & personal concierge services provided.
We are approximatly 1100 meters (1/2 mile) from Santa Teresa. The biggest difference between our two sister towns of Mal Pais and Santa Teresa is that Mal Pais is more relaxed, quiet and private. Staying in Mal Pais is the best of both towns, you can drive into Santa Teresa to enjoy our many beaches, restaurants and hustle and bustle; then retreat home to your peaceful and quiet rental home. We have several natural tide pools to enjoy out to the left of the property and also to the right of the property in addition to our private pool. While it is rocky right out front what makes this location special are our many tide pools located to the left and right. We are also a short walk to Playa Carmen beach where you can enjoy swimming & surfing by walking. We do recommend renting a car as Costa Rica is a country worth exploring every inch and every beach. We have several beautiful beaches to check out during your visit. Upon completion of your reservation we send you our Welcome Packet PDF file which contains all kinds of useful information about our area, activities, beaches, restaurants along with always being available to help you plan your perfect Costa Rican vacation.

We are located beachfront. A private 1.5 acre property.
Our 4 bedroom, 3 bath home is located in Mal Pais, Costa Rica. 1100 meters from the Cruce (crossroads) boarding Santa Teresa.

This incredible tropical location will cradle you in comfort. Enjoy the soothing sounds of the waves from every point of the house. Yoga deck, outdoor shower & bathtub. Private pool for your pleasure and beachfront hammocks.

Experience unforgettable sunsets right out front all year. This is the ideal spot for the perfect family vacation, friends, or a romantic couples get-away. At Casa Celeste we provide you with an onsite caretaker who's favorite thing to do is to take care of you. If you are looking to experience "Pura Vida" lifestyle; you've come to the right place.

For those interested in surfing, there is a left point break within a short walking distance, and for the more experienced surfers there is a right point break steps from the property. We are located 600 meters south of the World Famous surfing beaches of Playa Santa Teresa (3 minute drive).

There is much to explore in our roughly 5km of flat dirt road between the villages of Mal Pais & Playa Santa Teresa. We look forward to hosting you soon!

Welcoming, clean and rustic

Casa Celeste is a nice, welcoming, clean and rustic house. It is well situated in Malpais and totally appropriate for a family. The owner is pleasant and provided all the information we needed to go to the house and to enjoy the surroundings. The caretaker is a gem.

Incredible Spot!

We came across this house while eating breakfast down the street debating our next move for the trip. Diana got back to me immediately and 3 hours later we were lounging in the hammocks situated right on the beach in front of the house. Vicente was extremely helpful and most importantly, a great guy. This house was everything we needed for an amazing week!

Lovely stay in paradise

We stayed at Casa Celeste for 3 days last april and we absolutely felt in love with the place and with Vicente! He is such an amazing man and host! It was a real pleasure to spend time with him! Amazing!!!

We got back from Casa Celeste 2 weeks ago and it's been on my mind ever since. Our stay was amazing and so is Vicente!! Vicente made our stay truly special, something we will never forget. The home is beautiful and comfortable, has everything you need. The scenery is beautiful it feels so secluded, though everything (i.e. restaurants, stores) is nearby. We rented ATVs for the time there and got around the village just fine. I would absolutely recommend Casa Celeste if you'll be traveling to Mal Pais!!!

Beach Front Paradise!!!!

This was our first time staying at Casa Celeste and second time to the area. We loved it and highly recommend this house! Gorgeous beaches surround the area. It is truly paradise! The location is near the center of town which makes it very easy to get around. There are many grocery stores and amazing restaurants to check out in the area. We also enjoyed our time with the caretaker Vicente. He is lovely. He brought us fresh coconuts each morning and taught our kids about the local nature and culture. He made us feel at home. We will definitely stay here again!

Best vacation ever!!

We absolutely, loved our time at Casa Celeste. It is the perfect house to spend your vacation at when visiting this area. We first went to Arenal which was also great but we enjoyed the beaches of Mal Pais and Santa Teresa much more! Vicente the caretaker is amazing and super helpful. The house is secure and safe. Centrally located to the center of town. We built a fire at night right on the beach and enjoyed the sunsets and stars every night. You can hear and see the waves from the Master Bedroom. Monkeys visited us each day. There is a lot of amazing wildlife to see and enjoy on the property. We will definitely be back next year.

Casa Celeste is THE BEST!

I had been to Costa Rica twice before visiting Casa Celeste in Mal Pais, and this beautiful home made my vacation ten times better than the other two visits. The home is the perfect size for two to three couples or two small families. The air conditioning was a nice touch and afforded sleep-filled nights. Being right on the beach with the sound of the waves made the gorgeous view even more heavenly. We walked and jogged on the beach each day and enjoyed the tide pools (almost like jacuzzis) each day. Santa Teresa is right down the street and has amazing restaurants of all types, but we also loved being able to make a lot of our meals at home. Vicente, the caretaker, was by far the best amenity of this delightful place. He was so helpful, so caring and had great ideas and advice for our adventures. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to have a combination of relaxation, adventure, beauty and pampering. I will definitely return!

What an amazing place!

We stayed at Casa Celeste for two incredible weeks with our two year old daughter and were pretty much in Costa Rica heaven. Our time spent there was the perfect balance between relaxation off the grid and adventure exploring the surrounding area. While at the house, we loved being lulled into naps by the sound of the waves, sipping on our fresh coconut water courtesy of the very sweet and kind Vicente, swimming in the nearby giant tide pool, enjoying the wildlife and visiting animals (monkeys, iguanas, horses, bats, crabs, frogs, and a friendly kitty to name a few!), and cooking some great meals in the ocean view kitchen. When we ventured out (and we were thankful we decided to rent a car for our entire stay per the owners' guidance) we enjoyed exploring the whole area from Cabuya, Montezuma, and Cabo Blanco to Playa Hermosa and Manzanillo. There are so many different beaches to explore, many of which are great for kids, and there is amazing food to discover. We tried many restaurant suggestions and all were awesome. Even with all of our exploring, we still returned to Casa Celeste every day feeling like we had the best spot to call our home. Highly recommend!!

Fabulous !!!

We spent 2 days in Casa Celeste last year during our trip in Costa Rica in april 2015. The feeling we had when we arrived was very strong, the feeling to have reached our terminal destination, where we all want to finish our life. The house is really direct on the beach, and we had our breakfasts in the hammock, on the beach, with a lot of animals in the trees doing the same. The house is perfectly comfortable and clean, and thanks to Vicente who warmly welcomed us, we were told all the useful information to survive in paradise...he showed us the way to a private warm swimming pool, on the beach where we had the best glass of wine, looking with tears in our eyes at the sunset. That was a wonderful stay, I really mean it ! You can't miss that place. I can see only one negative point...we are so sad now when we think about Casa Celeste ! Thanks Diana and Ran...Thanks Vicente

Amazing place to stay and great experience!

I had the best time at casa celeste. Vincente could not have been any better at making sure I was treated with the up most respect. I was so well taking care of it was amazing!!!! I absolutely love him and the experience would not have been the same without all of his care and attention. The land and view from the house is spectacular. I could not have had a better time. There is so much to do there, from going to the beach, eating fresh yummy food, hanging around with the locals, horse back riding, snorkeling, happy hour at sunset etc... I would recommend it to all of my friends and family who would like to get away to a nice tropical and beautiful place, surrounded by gorgeous trees and wild life. The monkeys that hang out in the trees are so cool!!!! There is nothing bad I could say about this place and my personal experience. Go check it out for yourself!! You won't be sorry.

Possibily the best located house in Malpais

Our family of 5 very much enjoyed our short stay at Casa Celeste: and I agree with the other reviewers. Vicente was welcoming and yet reclusive, the house was rustic, clean and comfortable. The location was the best we say along the shore of Malpais. The owners were responsive and it was easy to book with them. Everything was comfortable and nice. The only thing I missed was a microwave and we got over that quickly. Cold milk with your coffee isn't the end of the world....We had a big truck which was a bit difficult to park in Santa Teresa so I recommend a smaller 4 wheel drive or rent an atv to drive to the store. Visit the tico restaurant Caracoles 2 houses up - wonderful food and very nice hosts.The bakery was excellent, but we preferred to eat breakfast and drink our coffee at the best view in town - Casa Celeste. Visit secret beach at low tide so you can snorkel, but bring your shoes at it's very rocky, but lovely. Make sure you visit Playa Hermosa which I believe is one of the loveliest and safest beaches to swim at in CR. Enjoy!

Amazing Experience!!

This was our first time in Costa Rica! We first went to Arenal for three days and then came to Casa Celeste for a week. Diana, the owner was incredible! She answered all of my questions via email before we arrived, then we were greeted by Vincent the caretaker of the property. He was so helpful! The house is beautiful and the beach is amazing! Vincent cooked us breakfast every morning and we also had coffee waiting for us at 4:00 pm. Each day! There was hammocks in between the trees which was right on the beach. Now, Mal Pai has dirt roads and lots of rocks so literally it takes time to get to places. There is an incredible bakery in town and then a great restaurant on the beach very close to the beach house. The beach is rocky so it's not a great beach to swim, but there are beaches close by that are more sandy. Overall, we had an incredible experience and if your looking for less touristy, relaxing, and peaceful beach house, then this is a great option! Thanks to Diana and Vincent, hopefully we will be back! Amanda

Awesome Family Vacation

This was my families very first trip to Costa Rica and we were so extremely happy to find this gem of a house to stay in. The view was absolutely gorgeous. We could not have asked for a better place to stay. Vicente was wonderful he was there for us every step of the way. Anything we needed or wanted he was able to get for us. From the Gallo Pinto that he made us to helping arrange our excursions we could not have done it without him. We were grateful enough to receive visits from the howler monkeys (how awesome that was) as well as the horses. Going into town was always a fun adventure enjoying all the locals who were so friendly and nice to all of the food. Mmmmn the food was delicious we did not have one single bad meal there. From going to the beach watching my family body surf and boogie board to 4-wheeling around the country we were able to soak in all that Mal Pais and the Nicoya Peninsula had to offer us. Being able to relax and get away from reality was just priceless. That is a vacation. I want to send a tremendous thank you to Diana and Ran who without them we would have been lost. They are such wonderful people and were so thorough with how to navigate being in another country. Cannot wait to experience it again. "Pura Vida"!!!!!

An Absolute Gem!

Our family of 5 ended our Costa Rican vacation at Diana's and Ran's Casa Celeste from July 2nd to July 5th. We arrived from Monteverde by 4WD through at-times torturous roads and we found paradise! We could not have picked a more heavenly setting after a two week adventure trek through Costa Rica! The property is beautiful, the ocean views are gorgeous, the house is spacious, well-equipped and clean and Vincente the care-taker is a wonderful, heartwarming gentleman...We will always remember his hospitality. A family of howler monkeys greeted us every morning and evening, wild horses grazed by the ocean, iguanas scampered across the front lawn, geckos ate supper with us, millions of tiny crabs descended upon the beaches in the evenings, tropical squirrels fought over coconuts! What more can you ask for! We walked along the shore from the house to the beach of Mal Pais and all the way to playa Santa Teresa, where we enjoyed a full day swimming and playing in the surf. Best waves ever according to the kids! Vincente set us up for surfing classes at Playa Carmen with Luna and Edite. We had a blast! The town of Santa Teresa is a gem! It was a perfect setting for our last days in Costa Rica. Enjoying the beaches, listening to the ocean surf, watching the surfers and the amazing sunsets from the outdoor patio...Thank you Vincente for the coconut water, the conversations and stories, the fire by the beach...all things that made our holidays so special. Pura Vida!

I Was Emotional When We Drove Away From the Casa Celeste

This was our first trip to Costa Rica... Everyone close to us would talk about this "Pura Vida" country and I was hooked. In my mind I compared it to the Mexican Yucatan Peninsula (Akumal, Tulum, etc.), where we spent a week and a half on our honeymoon. A private house, a private beach, complete relaxation. Casa Celeste exceeded our expectations. Like, we're never going back to Akumal because we found heaven. Ran and Diana were like our Christ, and Vicente, the on-property caretaker, was our God. We have never experienced a complete memory block of hectic real-life until we stepped foot onto Casa Celeste and everything Mal Pais/Santa Teresa had to offer. In this limited space of words to convey our experience, I give you the following: From the puddle-jumper single prop plane, to Miguel and his "off-road" taxi, pulling up to Casa Celeste for the first time, meeting Vicente (our Guardian of Mal Pais), swimming at Shmuli's at sunset (inside joke), howler monkeys at sunset and in the mornings for breakfast, secret beaches and the 4-hour round trip death hike to "THE" secret beach at Cabo Blanco, many trips for beer and eggs to Super Ronnys, house geckos, demon hellboy crabs, fresh cracked open coconut/water every morning, freshly cut and chopped with colorful straws and umbrellas, driving unpaved roads and trying to memorize where the potholes were, "stray" horses, ceviche forever, late night Burger Rancho runs, falling asleep at 6:30pm because we can... Memories my wife and I will hold close forever. Thank you, Diana, Ran and Vicente for your hospitality and knowledge of the area. You all have shown what "Pura Vida" truly means.

Pure Vida in Mal Pais

All the modern conveniences, the security and doting provided by Vincente the caretaker and the location right on the beach, Casa Celeste is a true gem! I hate to admit this as a US citizen, but satelite TV, WiFi, A/C, hot water and a washer & dryer go a long way to making a family vacation in Costa Rica go smoothly! Don't let the security system and the bars on the windows freak you out. Common sense plus these deterrents to crimes of opportunity can put your mind at ease so you can relax and enjoy your vacation. Vincente is always watching out for the guests and he's well-respected in the community that his presence alone is enough to deter theft. Vincente is so warm, friendly, helpful and intuitive especially when it comes to providing fresh coconut water without even asking! This was my family's fourth time to Mal Pais and I thought we would miss not having a pool on the property. Was I mistaken! Just north of the house there's a perfect little beach that was never crowded; the choice to play in the waves or wade in a tidal pool. Some of our favorite activities include surfing at Playa Carmen (Adrian at Ollie's Adventures in Santa Teresa is great, especially for any beginners), SUP by the Fisherman village (ask for Andy and Edy next to the little Mal Pais grocery store), snorkeling at Secret Beach, hiking in Cabo Blanco and watching all the wildlife right on the property. A troop of Howler monkeys often settle down for the night in a large tree on the property. Like our past visits, our favorite eateries include The Bakery in Playa Carmen great breakfast and lunch, Burger Rancho for the boys after surfing, Caracola's within walking distance of Casa Celeste, and the family's favorite, Mary's Restaurant in Mal Pais. Don't forget Maracuya for the best smoothies in town! Thank you Diana and Ran for sharing your beautiful gem in paradise and a big thank you to Vincente who was also very patient helping me re-learn my high school Spanish from many moons ago! Pura Vida!

Pura Vida Perfection

My husband and I have visited various parts of Costa Rica for the past five years (West side, Caribbean side, Manual Antonio/Quepos, Atenas, Arenal, Monteverde....and places in between). For the past two years, we have been fortunate enough to stay at Casa Celeste (both times, for about 8 days each). It is hard to capture the perfection of this property. In short, we'll never stay anywhere else. First, its location: It is on the beach (few houses in this area are) in a quiet and serene part of Mal Pais. I feel as if I'm in a nature reserve just sitting in the yard!! (Speaking of nature, you can see iguanas, monkeys, wild horses, birds -- all kinds of things!) The views are breathtaking, and the tide pools out front are always a blast to explore. It is very close to Santa Teresa (where the stores, restaurants, surf shops can be found), but is far enough away from all of that for those who appreciate a nice respite and who are seeking some peace, serenity and nature. Secondly, the house itself. It is adorable, with a great covered patio (great for watching the rains come in the afternoons, or for escaping the sun when needed!). The view from the kitchen is amazing for those who wish to cook. (We cooked in most days....its hard to leave the property its so nice!!) The beds are incredibly comfortable, and there is AC. For those new to Costa Rica, trust me, these are amenities that are NOT typical. Finally (and most importantly), the caretaker Vicente is the most amazing man I have yet to meet. (Not to worry, my husband knows I feel this way -- and he agrees!!) While he is there to ensure your satisfaction and your safety, you will get SO much more out of meeting him. He is wise, kind, loving, and generous. We feel we leave there better people as a result of spending time with him. He quickly became (and remains) one of our dearest friends. He will be there to answer your questions as much or as little as you'd like -- so you definitely still have privacy, but you have a "go-to" guy if you need it. Oh! And I'd be remiss without mentioning how wonderful Diana and Ran are to work with. They are quick to respond and incredibly professional. Between them and Vicente -- you will be well taken care of!!

Private, tranquil, and right on the beach

I've been coming to Costa Rica since the early 90s, though this (amazingly) was my first trip to Santa Teresa/Mal Pais. Casa Celeste was perfect for our stay: quiet, private, mellow, and right on the beach. As other reviewers have noted, Vincente is an absolute jewel. Our 3.5 year old daughter quickly fell in love with him; he was like her 3rd grandpa. We enjoyed talking to him and hearing his stories, and he was always very helpful and considerate. Diana and Ran were responsive and answered all of our questions within hours. 5 stars!

EPIC Vacation

This was our first trip to Costa Rica and Casa Celeste came highly recommended. Upon our arrival we were extremely taken by the beauty and seclusion. The home was beautiful and perfect for the four of us. Vicente the caretaker was superb. His knowledge and helpfulness, along with his kindness and caring helped make this vacation very special. We woke up to him cracking fresh coconuts and when we left for the day he was always close, waiting for our return. We exercised on the beach routinely, had the opportunity to see all the beautiful sites and enjoyed the culture/relaxation Casa Celeste presented. The food was excellent, the views incredible, and the experience was epic! We will definitely return and would highly recommend this destination.

Paradise

Hello we stayed at Casa Celeste for 5 days in June of 2013. We are a family of 7 with a toddler. The owner of the home worked tirelessly to accommodate our group and made a special circumstance just for us. When we arrived we wished this had been the only home we stayed in on our trip. The views and patio were incredible. The patio itself is heaven. So much comfortable seating and these amazing hammock swings that I practically lived in. We loved our room upstairs with ocean and lush yard views surrounded by windows. We enjoyed walking on the beach that is directly in front of the home. To the left directly up the beach is a restaurant that has a pool and amazing food with fresh lime juice margaritas. We fell in love with this place and ate there the first evening we arrived and the evening we left. Vincente was most friendly. We have such loud teens we rarely stay at spaces where someone is on the property for fear that we cannot be loud and will bother the on site resident. This was not the case, Vincente allowed us to be exactly who we are as a family and assisted us in renting atvs for our family for the cheapest price and delivered to our door. He gave us coconuts and is the warmest man. His smile is beautiful and he is most kind. We got to see monkeys directly on our property. At this home you can be directly connected to nature as it is just out your door. It was difficult to go explore because the outdoor space/patio just lures you sot stay and watch the ocean. The house is private and is within a few minutes walk or drive to so many options for food. The area is very special with people living here from all over the world and this allows for many different food options even thai food which isn't easy to find when traveling to some countries. We fell in love with the area and plan to visit again and again. Thank you Vincente and to Diane and Ron for allowing us to stay in this home and for such an amazing price!
