Great

Property was amazing, directions were spot on and it was beautiful. The spiral staircase was tight and definitely not kid friendly. The bathroom upstairs and showered were great!!

Dreamy

We had such an incredible time at this lodging. We wanted to get away from the stress of the city and found this gem of a place. Our first night, we were sitting at the hot tub listening to music when it started snowing! It was magical. We had downloaded some movies on our tablet and enjoyed watching them wrapped around a fire. Not to mention, how incomparable it is to wake up in the middle of nowhere with your significant other and no interruptions. That being said, I should reiterate some key points that should be obvious from the description but you should have in mind. This lodging is ouuuut there. You have to follow the directions of the host exactly because a) there’s no cell reception for half of the way and b) the roads get pretty wild out there and the last thing you want is to get stuck there. If you are driving, make sure you have snow chains and a 4x4. We had an all wheel drive and I think we would’ve done better on the road leading up to the house if we had a sturdier vehicle. The communication with the hosts leading up to the stay was excellent. I felt like my questions were thoroughly answered and they seemed like lovely folks. Anyways, I don’t know why the last review is from 2017 but I’ve recommended this place to literally everyone I know. It is THAT good! Give yourself a chance to delight in the magic of this place, you won’t regret it.

The dogs were a bit much

For the most part, the treehouse accommodations were what we expected - Charming and a little rugged. Our favorite part about it was listening to cassette tapes and drinking wine under the stars and the colorful lights on the patio. On the downside, we were greeted by a couple of really big dogs that jumped on us and barked at us the whole time we unpacked our car. It was a little intimidating but we're all dog lovers so it was ok. The dogs came back for a visit in the middle of the night howling at the full moon. Additionally, we couldn't get the hot tub to heat up so that was a bummer. However, we did not call the caretaker because it was late by the time we decided to get in. He probably could've fixed it so I wouldn't let that deter you. Earlier in the day we walked over and met the caretaker who was very kind and welcoming. Overall, we had a great weekend in White Salmon and Hood River and enjoyed our stay at the treehouse.

Tranquil setting. Clean living quarters. Elegantly rustic.

The feeling I received after staying there was that I could live there peacefully for quite some time. The Innkeeper was attentive, some times to the point of being too visible, but he was polite and willing to go the extra mile for us as guests. We have a pleasant visit with the owner - His personality fit as the owner of the property.

The perfect spot

After booking this place and looking at the map, I feared it would be too far out there for us to really enjoy the area. But it was actually just about the perfect amount of "far away" - close enough to get to town easily, but far enough away that we didn't hear the fireworks (which was the whole reason we went - our dogs hate fireworks). and speaking of dogs, don't let Bruisers name and size fool you - he is one of the sweetest and best behaved dogs you'll ever meet. Having him around actually made our stay more enjoyable because he was such a delight. Even our dogs loved him. As for the cabin itself, I don't think there was anything we needed that wasn't there. It's just the perfect size for a couple looking for a nice romantic getaway. The hot tub was clean and worked (we've had issues with that at other properties), the bed was comfortable, and the kitchen was fully stocked. The only oddity was the floor sloped a bit, but not badly, and really - it's a treehouse, built on and in the trees - the slope gave it that rustic feeling. It DID take me a half day to stop feeling like I had just gotten off a ship after a few days at sea (if you've ever been in the Navy you'll recognize that feeling), but it's all part of the charm. I've seen some other reviews that complained about the caretakers house being able to "see in". Meh.. for one, it's pretty far away. Across a field and behind a barn. If you're concerned about him watching you, I have to wonder what kind of neighbors you have. And speaking of neighbors, the caretaker (drawing a blank on his name) is a super interesting guy. Quite a history and great stories if you get the chance to talk to him. We were there on the 4th of July, and when we returned from town that day, he had a whole picnic spread waiting for us for dinner (we had discussed it with him ahead of time - it wasn't like we wanted privacy and he intruded). Really nice guy, very attentive to our needs. All in all, great stay and once the yurt is complete, we'll probably go stay there too.

Calm and Cozy Winter Getaway

My boyfriend and I stayed here for the weekend before Valentine's Day and we had a fantastic stay! While arranging for the stay, the treehouse owners were supremely flexible and helpful with our scheduling. When we actually began our trip, the drive out was beautiful with the winter snow everywhere. The treehouse cabin was also the perfect size for the two of us. It was just a 45 minute drive into Hood River (and that's partially due to snow), so we were able to spend the day in town exploring some hiking trails and waterfalls near Mt. Hood, then taking advantage of all the wonderful dining options in town. Then we came back to the treehouse and spent our evening relaxing in the wonderful hot tub. We also appreciated being out in the woods, surrounded by so much scenery and opportunities to explore, as this was a "no cell phones" trip for us. The treehouse keepers down the next driveway were lovely people and we had a wonderful time chatting with them when we checked in an out. All around, it was a wonderful stay, and I would definitely reccommend this cabin to any couple looking for a getaway from their everyday lives and a chance to be together and have a breath of fresh air.

A fun and memorable retreat!

We loved our stay. Luxury accommodations or Swiss Family Robinson, it's not... but the quiet, the charm, the dogs, the small town, and the scenery are absolutely one of a kind. We had dinner in Stevenson and White Salmon, and packed our own food for breakfast and lunches. The Lyle Trail along the Klickitat river provided a long lovely hike, and the hot tub at the tree house was our reward. The owners, Roy and Rebecca, supplied excellent directions and communication and were willing to chat with us about the Tree House's history.

Completely unplugged!

This was the perfect venue for an unplugged weekend for us. We are extremely busy on a regular basis and in desperate need of a little time to focus on each other. The treehouse is ideal for a romantic get away. No TV, no cell service, no wifi. Simply perfect. The kitchen is well stocked with whatever you might need to prepare meals. They even left a number of tea light candles for us to use in the various candle holders inside and on the deck. There was a fire burning in the wood stove when we arrived (nice touch) so is was warm when we arrived. The hot tub was nice and hot (can't stand a lukewarm hot tub). The deck is private as it faces away from the treehousekeepers place. We enjoyed the eclectic selection of cassette tapes. After awhile we just started putting random tapes in and listened to quite a range of different genres. The spiral stair case is a bit narrow but as a larger person I didn't find it difficult at all. The treehouse keepers dogs (who we called Bud, Daisy and Mack because we didn't know their names) came and made friends with our guy Flash. They were very polite and sweet. Flash enjoyed being part of a pack for a few days. I would caution visitors to the tree house to try to arrive before dark as the last 2 miles to the tree house are a gravel road that felt a bit sketchy on a dark foggy night. We visited Katina's Café in White Salmon for breakfast (very good) and the Naked Winery Tasting room (great fun, not for the prudish) while in the area. We plan to make many return visits to the Lothlorien tree House!

So amazing and wonderful!

This tree house is so sweet and nice and our stay was incredible. The hot tub was hot and not chemically feeling and the bed was comfortable. There is plenty of wood to keep the stove going and it keeps the whole place very very warm. There are a few dogs who live across a field and they came to say hello everyday and even took us for a hike up over the snowy ridge. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and cookware and there is a coffee maker and a few other things like salt and pepper available. We will definitely be coming back! The only thing I'd say is be aware of the narrow steep spiral staircase to access the upstairs bedroom area: a very large person or a person with limited mobility would have a hard time. Thanks for everything is was the best birthday I've ever had!

Treehouse

The hot tub was great. The setting is quaint but it needs some updating. The collection of "cassette" tapes is interesting and would have been even better if the cassette player actually worked! Major areas were clean but there was a level of grime on anything you touched, such as the toaster. We had to clean some items in order to be comfortable using them. It was all just fine, not remarkable, but fine. I personally would not stay there again but I am sure others will continue to enjoy it. Location is a bit of a challenge!

Thanks for your feedback. We appreciate it when guests notify the treehousekeeper or us of any problems they have so it can be taken care of during their stay. For example, we checked and found that the cassette player works just fine. Had you notified the treehousekeeper, she could have helped you with it. We’ve asked our treehousekeeper to take particular note of the toaster and other appliances. Roy went up and checked in person after seeing your comment about “a level of grime on anything you touched,” but did not find that to be the case. However, pots that hang over the stove may start out clean yet pick up ambient cooking aerosols after they have been cleaned, and dishes washed in high-mineral content water will not sparkle as though washed in soft water. We’re glad that your stay was fine, and appreciate your letting us know about the things that need attention.

Not what was expected

We were very surprised to find that the tree house was not really "hidden away". While you really did have to drive out to the middle of nowhere to get there, we were surprised to find that it was on an inhabited property. You could see the "tree keeper's" house from the patio area and even through the windows from the inside. With the other house being so close, it would have been nice to have curtains or blinds to help feel like we had our privacy but it didn't. There was a note inside giving us instructions like to wash the dishes and put them back where we found them, to only place organic fruit and veggie scraps into the compost receptacle (no grains or meats), clean the grill after use, to bring back our recyclables with us if possible, and to even bring our used lines/bedding down to the main living area floor upon departing. No biggie...but then there was a request to leave a $15-20 gratuity. For what?!? We had dog hair in our bed, poop on the walkway to the outhouse, dogs that came to visit us every time we grilled, a bathroom with a door that I could barely close, and we didn't even have any tools to clean the grill. We ended up going into town to by a grill cleaning brush. It was nice to get away and it is a cute little place, but it was not what we were expecting, especially with how much it cost.
VrboOwner a répondu le 21 juill. 2023
Thank you for your feedback. Although the listing clearly states caretakers live on the property, we revised the listing to be more clear. For others reading this: Other buildings on the property are a city block or more away; the nearest building has no windows facing the treehouse; and all who live &/or work on the property respect the privacy of our guests. Tree branches had filtered the view from the treehouse but for safety reasons had to be removed. The trees planted to replace the screening did not survive the extreme summer conditions. We have made & installed kitchen curtains so our guests can choose their view while new trees are planted and grow to provide a living screen. It is standard for any vacation house rental to provide “house rules” and instructions about what is expected of guests. Since there are fewer environmental/recycling options in the country, we encourage our guests to help respect and honor our home, the earth. Although guests do have certain responsibilities in leaving the treehouse in good tidy condition, there is a lot more which the treehousekeeper does in preparation for each stay including on-going maintenance. Some guests require more attention than others -- we encourage guests to communicate their needs to the treehousekeeper. Leaving a gratuity is an optional custom. We were shocked to hear about the dog hair. Clean sheets and pillow cases are used for each guest, but it turns out that the sheets used during your visit generate static cling and attracted random hair floating in the air. Our treehousekeeper works diligently to catch things like that, and she adds her apology to ours for missing it. We have removed those sheets from service to avoid this happening again. Regarding poop on the trail: we remove animal droppings when they are found – whether from domestic or wild animals. Although the treehousekeeper patrols the walkway prior to a guest’s arrival, she cannot control when or where wildlife does its business. Respecting a guest’s privacy, she does not walk the area unless requested. While we appreciate your going the extra mile, had you notified the treehousekeeper about the grill brush missing, she would have provided one. We keep spare supplies on hand because the ones left out for our guests’ use have a tendency to disappear. Please let us know the cost: we will reimburse you for the grill brush you purchased. Thank you. We appreciate knowing how we can to improve our guests' experience.

Sweet and Peaceful "Unplugged" Romantic Escape

The house is unique, secluded and quiet, perfect for a relaxing unplugged retreat and romantic hide-a-way with your best friend and lover. The wood stove, private hot-tub, new redwood lower deck, and hand-made log bed were perfect -- and, the nicely curated selection of cassette music ranging from the Roaring Twenties to the 70's provided that extra "touch" of unexpected pleasure so rare in run-of-the-mill vacation places. We spent a fair amount of time hiking the surrounding woods and clearcuts -- that is, when we weren't in the private and secluded hot tub on the west deck of the tree house! Totally awesome and sweet place -- clean, tidy, well-appointed and no wifi or cell phone interference. Did I say "Unplugged?

No privacy and outdated

I booked this for my birthday weekend. When I reserved it, it was only supposed to be my wife and I but my brothers ended up joining me for this adventure to help me celebrate. The first night we stayed, the hot tub quit working. The next morning, I was greeted by a small kid and her dog peeking into the windows. There is no privacy, it was like staying with a distant relative. The hot tub was broken both nights. When I had the treehouse keeper come fix the hot tub the second day, she demanded I pay for my extra visitors in cash before I could stay the second night that I ALREADY PAID FOR. Mind you this is in the middle of nowhere, I had no signal on my phone and there is no laptop to process a credit card payment online. Luckily my other brother wanted to come down so he was able to bring me some cash. Otherwise I would have been stuck having to find an ATM. I paid for my brothers crashing on the floor, we didn't ask for extra linens or towels. We actually brought all of our own linens, towels, and toiletries. The whole experience was horrible and a total waste of money. Don't waste your time or money.
VrboOwner a répondu le 21 juill. 2023
None of this would have happened had not the guest violated his terms of rental instead of asking if he could bring extra guest. The reservation was for 2. Maximum occupancy is 4. Had he asked, we could have explained the accommodation & space limitations in more detail, discussed any concerns, worked out payment for additional guests as well as prepare accordingly. Nothing was ever mentioned even during his call to update his ETA. Arriving after dark with 3 unexpected extra guests, he did not check in with the treehousekeepers. When asked Saturday to confirm the number of extra guests so she could provide extra supplies if they would be staying on, our treehousekeeper was informed they brought their own bedding & towels because they were fine with sleeping on the floor & thought no one would be around to notice. HomeAway advised us as they were in violation of the rental terms that we, the owners, could request additional payment or evict them. Opting to work things out, we gave him the option of either paying cash or via HomeAway for the extra guests. He was also told where on the property he could get a better cell signal (he already was texting or emailing his brother). There was no need to hunt down an ATM. They were not threatened with eviction: they were told only that no additional guests could stay Saturday night without payment for additional guests. The hottub performed exactly as the safety features were designed: when the number, size and/or behavior of those using the hot tub displace enough water that the water level falls below the filter valves, the safety features activate to prevent an unsafe water condition. When notified of the problem, treehousekeeper refilled the hot tub, checked the water quality, ensured the hot tub was working properly, & explained to the guests what happened, how to avoid it happening again, & what to do. That it happened again is a result of continued misuse by the guests. Our guests’ privacy is important to us. Everyone who lives or works on the property knows & respects this. The small child running over to the lower deck with “Bruiser” (the resident dog noted in our listing) was the child of someone visiting another part of property. It happened once. All parties involved have been told this is not acceptable: it won’t happen again. That our treehousekeeper interacted with the guests as much as she did is entirely a result of guests’ actions. Our hospitality was abused, our property misused.
