À propos de cet hébergement

5 bdrm Victorian, built in 1881-With 21 rooms, on a hill on 4 VERY private acres

In the heart of the scenic Hudson Valley, on 4 VERY private acres, up on hill, lies this masterpiece of Victorian architecture… a grand “painted lady”, overlooking the majestic Hudson River. Built in 1881, this magnificent home was originally a wedding gift, and we are only the second family to reside here. Prior to the house being built, the land was a gift from the King of England. So this literally is a home for a King... or Queen!

Inside you are greeted by a 60’ main foyer. The exquisite decorative woodwork was custom hand carved in Scotland. Mmm… where next? The living/family room has a big TV, so you can enjoy sports or your favorite movie. Or perhaps the music room, with a perfect condition, baby grand piano from 1945. Want to read? The parquet floors in 2 libraries are accentuated by the crystal glass cabinets. And the sun room, is a wonderful place for morning meditation, or to get in your "zone on the treadmill. Each fireplace has hand painted tiles… ranging in Shakespearean scenes to animals and their young.

Hungry? Walk toward the back and the kitchen is electric with 2 standard size ovens are at a level where you don’t have to bend down to use them (not stacked but rather side by side). The table and chairs are an example of 60’s décor, which are actually represented in the Smithsonian. If you need storage space during your stay, there are 2 rooms off of the kitchen, which contain a second refrigerator and full size freezer. The washer/dryer are also in a separate room off of the kitchen. Pass through the pantry, with its oversized sink, on your way to the formal dining room… which easily sits 12, and has a ceiling that is an embossed leather type material of fall leaves.

Upstairs are 5 bedrooms. The primary suite leads to a dressing room with vanity mirrors, and in the bathroom, is blue glass, not tile. There is full Wi-Fi and the office has 2 desks… if you must do work during your relaxing stay.

Enjoy afternoon tea or your favorite cocktail on the large front porch, which wraps around to a screened in porch. Or, only footsteps away, take in the scent of fresh pines, the charming, almost fairy like Gazebo.

Locally, there are multiple golf courses, wineries, hiking trails, art galleries including Storm King Art Center, shopping destinations, and outstanding eateries and entertainment, many of which are on the banks of the picturesque river. Explore our nation’s history… George Washington’s headquarters during the Revolutionary War, and West Point less than 14 miles away. Finally, only an hour north of NYC, you can take in a Broadway play and be back in the serene quiet of the country that same night.

PLEASE NOTE: There is some historic restoration being done on the outside, and so as not to have any noise intrude on guests, on this very serene and private property, the house will have limited availability during this period.

Beautiful Victorian Home

Beautiful historic home. Large rooms. Plenty of space for the entire family. This is a historic home and the amenities reflect that. Great location, close to restaurants and shopping.

We chose this extraordinary vintage house for a rare week-long family reunion. We were not disappointed! The house has everything. The private setting was superb. There are 3 porches where we could gather at various times throughout the day every day. The kitchen seemed to have everything we needed and the grand dining room was just that–grand. It was difficult to even put to use the other fine rooms like the libraries, music room, and the large living room. There are 4 very large and accommodating bedrooms and huge beautifully paneled hallways/foyers on both floors that offer yet more gathering places. It is hard to describe adequately the welcoming ambiance of this nearly 150 year old house that obviously has had a well-lived life as a multiple generation family home. After a day of activities and sightseeing it was a splendid place to return to and recharge. This sense of hospitality was exemplified by the host who has lived in the home for many years and provided us with an abundant supply of food and drink on arrival. Throughout our stay he or his staff were readily accessible. Was the house perfect? We had some issues with the plumbing–hardly surprising in a house of this age but we were able to work around them without adversity affecting our overall stay. The house is so charming and engaging it is easy to accept its few limitations. In sum, I cannot imagine that we could have found a better placeto renew and renergize our family relationships.

Beautiful House

Beautiful place. well located, depending on your activities. It was built in the 1800’s, so expect that and some of the “comforts” of a newer home may be missing. (E.g. working showers, smaller bathrooms, small oven, older appliances…). But the owner and his handyman were the best. Will probably stay again next year with my classmates for another Army football game.

We really enjoyed staying here. The house is amazing. It is like stepping back in time. The property is really large, and the house sits privately at the end of a long wooded driveway. The house is really large, quite and peaceful, with many different rooms to enjoy downstairs. There is a large entry hall, big living room, library, sun room, kitchen and dining room. There is a piano in the music room with a really big beautiful sound, and a light action. We had several nice meals with our whole family around the large dining room table. The kitchen is well stocked, and really cool. We also enjoyed sitting on the huge front porch. Upstairs are the five bedrooms. Each has a unique character and all are very large, spacious and comfortable. The house really has an interesting and comfortable layout. Nothing in this house is really modern, but everything is in good shape and functional. We wish we could have stayed longer, and will be back again.

A Quiet and Beautiful Mansion - Royal Tenenbaums in the Hudson Valley

Eight of us stayed here to finish out the summer in Victorian Gothic style. Upon entry the guests were in awe. The house is huge and beautiful. The listing pictures undersell the place; it’s even larger than the pictures make it seem. The steps, like the floors, do not squeak at all. Early risers can pad around without disturbing anyone. Not bad for a place built in 1881. The place was well prepared for our visit. The entire house was clean—fresh towels, empty garbage cans, and no dust bunnies. The property manager left a generous welcome package. There are multiple Bluetooth speakers available. A big kitchen has everything you need to cook for a large group; dual ovens, plenty of burners, every utensil you need, and enough of them for a large group. The oven and microwave are older models. They work fine but the controls are clunky, and it took a lot of button pressing to get them started. Don’t forget to bring sheet music: the piano is in tune and has a responsive, light touch. You won’t disturb anyone. The neighbors are far away. And the plaster walls do a great job of blocking sound. No one in the kitchen could hear us in the music room as we pounded away on the baby grand. Eight people were swallowed by the house, in a good way. Groups can form and meander, merge and separate. We all easily fit on the screened porch, in the dining room, and the living room. We loved our stay at this quiet and beautiful mansion, a perfect spot for large groups.

I grew up here and absolutely love the beautiful scenic Hudson Valley.

Voici pourquoi l’hôte a choisi cet hébergement

It's like being at a resort, but it's a private home with nature at its best.

Voici ce qui rend cet hébergement unique

So many special items... All the wood paneling was hand carved in Scotland. The fireplace tiles are all custom. The house is actually lined with brick , and the bricks were made on the property in a kiln buried in the ground. The same kitchen furniture is now in the Smithsonian, as representative of the time/style.
As they say, they just don't make them like they used to!
