Designed by Michael Shaw, the visionary who helped establish downtown's historic district known as The Strand, this home boasts a prime location near the ocean and numerous local attractions.
Located just a mile from the golden sands of Porretto Beach and seven miles from the family-friendly Moody Gardens, this home is an ideal base for enjoying a variety of Texan adventures. Spend your day kayaking in Offatts Bay or rent a jet ski for thrilling wave-jumping. Discover the latest exhibits at Moody Gardens and finish the day with an exhilarating ride down the waterslides at Schlitterbahn Waterpark.
After a day of excitement, unwind in the comfort of this welcoming home. The fully equipped kitchen is perfect for preparing snacks and meals, while central air-conditioning keeps the space cool. Shaw House is very spacious. It has a large living room and dining room. All the bedrooms are large with closets and storage areas. The bathrooms are nice sized, too, with adequate numbers of towels & bath amenities provided. The mattress in the downstairs master bedroom where I slept was very comfortable. So, I enjoyed a serene night's sleep on the two nights I spent there. The other three adults in my party reported pleasant sleeping experiences in their upstairs beds, as well. The kitchen is well appointed with necessary appliances. There are plenty of table ware, cutlery, and cooking utensils available if home cooking is preferred. The Shaw House location is outstanding for visiting Galveston Island City as it is close to interesting landmarks, museums & businesses. It has easy access to the popular Strand with its interesting shops and restaurants. The Sea Wall is also nearby. However, Shaw House is not located close to beaches. So people desiring a beach vacation need to rent a beach house on the West End side of Galveston Island. I have one suggestion. There are 3 full bathrooms and 1 half bathroom, Not 4 full bathrooms containing a tub or shower. VRBO lists Shaw House as having 4 bathrooms without explaining that one of the "bathrooms" is only a Half Bathroom on 1st Floor.

The naegative- House only has 3 1/2 baths. We rented this home so each couple had a full bathroom as ad made it sound like 4 full. Arriving at night place is black. No street lights, no working porch lights etc, and no way to turn on porch lights. Barbq is missing pieces so unusable. Heat was never explained- it seems now that thermostat on main is for front of house, and upstairs thermostat is for 2 rear floors of addition. Branches all over yard, and filthy rear porch. The good- beautiful home, comfy beds, great location. Worked out great for our group, but since 2 of the full baths were ensuites 4 adults were left sharing one full bathroom for showers. Home will need a little love soon- touch ups etc but still a great place to rent.
