à propos de cet hébergement
Beautiful 5-bedroom home in charming Wayne Village!
This delightful home nestled in charming Wayne village is big enough for a rambling family gathering, yet provides solitary spaces and meandering paths to stream-side reflections or kid-friendly splashing in the Mill Stream. Wayne is home to six bodies of water: Lake Androscoggin, Pocasset Lake, Lovejoy Pond, Dexter Pond, Wilson Pond and Berry Pond.
The house sleeps 10 comfortably with 5 bedrooms including 2 king beds, 4 twin beds, 1 queen bed and 1 sofa bed. Includes two parlor spaces with televisions, a music room with a Steinway grand piano, a family dining room and the widest pumpkin pine floors you've ever seen. It comes with 2 bathrooms featuring a bathtub and a shower. Heating, AC, WiFi, and other essentials are provided for a comfortable stay.
The home, built by town father Holman Johnson in the 1850's, reflects a time when people slowed down to enjoy reading, playing puzzles or singing by the piano. A great place to call home base while you're away, you can relax, unwind and enjoy your stay.
You are sure to make many memories in this idyllic Maine town. You can play in the Millstream and Millpond in the back of the Johnson House as well as kayak, swim, fish, scoot on the rocks under the waterfall, have a picnic at the picnic tables on the property. Morning coffee or tea on the back deck is a wonderful way to begin your day.
Wayne is a walkable village. By foot you can visit: The Wayne General Store, Good Post Refill Shop, Tubby's Own Ice Cream, The Androscoggin Yacht Club, The Grey Goose Gourmet, Wayne Village Pottery, The Cary Memorial Library, Wayne Community Church, Wayne Elementary School and Playground, The Ladd Recreation Center with its playground, basketball, tennis and pickleball courts, Qwill Art Studio, The French Confection Home Made Chocolates and A Lakeside Studio Pottery.
Join the Androscoggin Yacht Club for $55/individual and $95/family and you can take swimming and sailing lessons as well as enjoy the sandy beach, sit in the old green wooden rockers on the porch or have a cook-out and use the stone charcoal BBQ on Thursday nights with the locals.
Saturday mornings from 9am to noon, starting Memorial Day weekend, you can enjoy shopping at the Wayne Farmer's Market.
A 5-minute drive has you at Cobbie's Corner Store, Stevenson's Strawberries, the North Wayne Dam/Waterfall, Emery Farm, Hazel Hill Orchards, Gingerbread Farm Perennials and Windsurfing-Maine.
In nearby Winthrop, Maine you can enjoy another New England downtown with shops such as Pickle's Potions Handcrafted All-Natural Skincare, The Art Walk Shop, Dharwood Pottery and Freckle's Salvage Company. Winthrop is also home to our closest Hannaford Supermarket, Walgreens, Cumberland Farm, Ace Hardware, a Dunkin's.
Many favorite walks and hikes are close by, such as the Kennebec Land Trust's Mount Pisgah, where you can climb the fire tower and view lakes on either side and the Gott Pasture, a true walk in the woods down to Wilson Pond (both about a 7 minute drive). There's a pebbled one mile path at the Readfield Fairgrounds 15 minutes away.
On rainy days, you can visit Maine's state capital, Augusta which is 17 miles away, and is home to the Maine State Museum or visit Hallowell, know for it's antique shops. On Water Street in both towns, you will find delicious eateries, such as Cushnoc Pizza/Brewery, Slates, The Liberal Cup, French Bakery and The Quarry Tap Room.
Some of the best local mountain biking is in Augusta at Bond Brook and Hallowell at the Reservoir. Check out the central Maine chapter of New England Mountain Biking on Facebook to learn more!
Waterville, a 45 minute drive, is home to Colby College, and Colby's Art Museum, which is free and open to the public. Downtown Waterville you will find many fun shops as well as the Maine Film Center.
The property is available to rent by the month from May through October. Come buy a bumper sticker at the General Store that reads, "Where the hell is Wayne, Maine?" so that you can be one of the lucky ones to know the inside joke that this village is truly a hidden gem.
