A True Hidden Gem
Our trip to Santa Elena was the perfect start to our Belize adventure. Nestled on a private drive with its own remote gate, this property offered a serene escape with breathtaking views of the mountains. Every morning, we sipped coffee on the patio while being greeted by nature—including the occasional agouti wandering by. It was a peaceful and magical way to start each day.The location is ideal for exploring the nearby Mayan ruins, which are absolutely must-visit destinations. We made unforgettable trips to Cahal Pech and Xunantunich, both rich in history and awe-inspiring beauty. But the real standout was our visit to Sak Tunich—a hidden gem and a unique experience like no other. Rubin and his family are building their own Mayan temple by hand, using traditional Mayan methods. The tour is intimate, inexpensive, and incredibly inspiring, making it a highlight of our trip.The cabana itself was spotless, comfortable, and well-equipped, providing the perfect haven to relax after days of exploring. Having a pool was the cherry on top, offering a refreshing way to wind down.Santa Elena and neighboring San Ignacio offered everything we could ask for as travelers. The vibrant open-air market was a treasure trove of fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, and even ice cream—all locally sourced and cooked fresh that day. We loved the authentic feel of the towns, which weren’t overrun by tourists,.. an unforgettable blend of comfort, nature, history, and authentic local experiences
