Stay in an authentic 200-year-old Appalachian farmhouse with genuine late 1700s vernacular architecture built in the same era and mountain tradition as Dolly Parton’s childhood home. Located in the historic community of Pittman Center on the Little Pigeon River and just 15 minutes from Gatlinburg, this rustic retreat offers both history and comfort. Expect creaky doors, antique furnishings, and the quirks of an old house — but also all the modern conveniences to make your stay comfortable. It’s a one-of-a-kind place for couples or anyone who wants to experience a real Smoky Mountain stay.
This farmhouse has been in my family for decades and carries the character of a true Appalachian home. Inside, you’ll find: • 1 bedroom with a double bed and antique furnishings. (Queen air mattress available for living room.) • 1 bathroom with a classic clawfoot tub, plus a hand-held shower extension. • Outdoor shower with hot water, attached to the back of the bedroom (just a few steps outside, primary shower experience). • A cozy living room with plenty of books and original art — the perfect spot to relax or even write the Great American novel! (Can accommodate queen sized mattress.) • A full kitchen with all the essentials for just about any kind of meal. • A front porch antique glider — ideal for slow mornings or lazy afternoons on the porch.
The farmhouse sits on 3.5 acres, set back from the road and surrounded by a rolling field and mature trees. You’ll have privacy, seclusion, and no visible neighbors. Guests enjoy private river access for fishing, wading, or just sitting and letting time slow down. There’s also a forest walking path on the property and even a 1958 Cameo pickup truck that makes a great photo backdrop. As the seasons change, the riverfront and trees make this a beautiful spot to unwind.
What Makes This Place Unique: • A 200-year-old home with genuine late 1700s Appalachian architecture • Antique furniture and decor throughout • River rock and mud fireplace — rare to see outside the national park • A blend of rustic quirks and modern comforts including Wi-Fi, central heat and air, plenty of hot water with great water pressure, and washer/dryer available.
Convenience: While the farmhouse feels secluded, it’s close to everything you need. It’s about 15 minutes to Gatlinburg, and 20–25 minutes to Pigeon Forge and the Super Walmart. Local restaurants and grocery stores are only a short drive away, and there’s even a back way into Pigeon Forge to help avoid traffic.
Guest Access: Guests have the entire farmhouse and surrounding property to themselves, including the private stretch of river. I reside on the property in a tiny house that is tucked up and above the farmhouse approximately 75 feet away, so I’m available if you need anything or any assistance is needed—but I respect your privacy.
Other Things to Note: • This is a rustic, historic home — expect quirks along with charm. • The outdoor shower is the main shower; the indoor clawfoot tub has a hand-held extension. • Our outdoor cat, Izzo, roams the property. Please let us know if you have allergies.
Why Stay Here: If you’re looking for a polished, modern rental, this isn’t it. But if you value history, authenticity, and the soul of an old Appalachian farmhouse, this place is unforgettable. It’s close to Gatlinburg, Dollywood, and Anakeesta, and only 10 minutes to the Greenbrier entrance of Great Smoky Mountains National Park — making it the perfect base for both relaxation and exploration.

Absolutely love the cabin and location and the host was very helpful and the cabin was clean but the description of the property was not accurate it said host lives on property but it did not say 20 feet away from the cabin and the river was actually across the road .

Hi James,
When my dad built the tiny house on the property where I reside he considered privacy and proximity. So it was placed and built with maximum privacy for both of us and proximity when we would need it.
I was able to come home and be with dad before he needed me and we both weren’t ready to step into caretaker/whatever mode.
His well-thought-out elevated placement and soundproof construction of the tiny house allowed us for years to enjoy private lives without getting into each other‘s hair.
The “holly house” as dad called it is approximately 75 ft above and tucked up into the woods facing the windowless back and side of the farmhouse.
I have added additional pics to hopefully clear things up for future guests as I would never want to try to minimize or hide the fact of proximity but vigorously defend its placement and the old man’s attention to detail and unobtrusive addition to our old school Smurf Village!😜.
I apologize about the river information. I assumed the photos would represent it accurately. But you know what happens when people assume… So my bad and my apologies.
The Little Pigeon river is a short walk across Pittman Center Road, but we have access to both sides of the river. it’s a private paradise as there’s 1500 undeveloped acres butting up to the river across from the house and you can’t get any more private and close to town on the river than that, So no the farmhouse was not built on the river. The Farm House has survived since 1795 because we are NOT directly on the river!!🤞
I have revised the listing based on your constructive criticism and updating pics as well. I sincerely apologize for discrepancies and inaccuracies you found in the listing and I’m grateful for you pointing them out. Thanks again James, you and your beautiful family are welcome back anytime!
Cheers
holly😊

Holly was a great host but she had to spend time at the hospital during our stay so we didn’t get to talk with her as much as we would have liked. The cabin is as listed. It is rustic but the decor is charming. Everything we needed to enjoy our stay was provided and even more. Holly even had poles and lures she said I could use but I had brought my own. We do plan on revisiting in the future.

Wow what a delightful place to stay. Lots of outdoor space for relaxing or exploring, plenty of room for your doggo and has a small creek to get there paws wet. Sitting on the front porch early in the morning and evening listening to the river is soothing, such a great way to start and end your day. The inside does not disappoint it's a cabin with antique decor, appliances and furnishing but also with modern conveniences and when it says fully stocked kitchen trust and believe it has everything. It has a claw foot tub and an outdoor shower. If you are looking for simplicity you found it. Its a rustic cabin through and through from its doors, floors and windows. The host Holly kept in touch and made sure I had everything I needed. I can't wait to come back

Both the property and the host were magical! We wanted something special to celebrate our 40th birthday and we got it. It was a wonderful stay in the cabin! It was clean, cozy, and well-maintained, with everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. The peaceful surroundings made it the perfect place to unwind. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and enjoyable cabin experience.

Hey Amy,
I wish I knew what happened but I hate that you only felt like it was an OK time! I wish I knew what or if anything I could’ve done to make your time here more than OK!
It really seemed like you guys were having a great time! After you left, I took a walk on the river and found the beautiful rock sculptures you made at the river rock beach! I took pic's, but I guess I can’t add pictures to the response!
Anyway, I genuinely wish I could have been more helpful.
Thank you for your honest feedback and for staying at the farmhouse, I guess this funky old place just can’t be for everyone!😜
Only best wishes to you!
Cheers, holly😊
