Lovely place and great location on Deer Isle

The Artist's retreat was the home of an artist and still contains many of his paintings, furnishings, and the well-lit room he used as this studio. The bedrooms are good and the bathrooms very convenient for a group as the shower/bath area is separate from the toilet area. The kitchen is well-equipped and there is a nice window seat in the kitchen/eating area. We were able to launch our kayaks and have a lovely paddle when it wasn't too windy (we were there in September). The location is good as you are halfway between Stonington and the bridge off the island. The patio was also a great place to gather. Only cons - the downstairs living room is separate from the kitchen/eating area so if you are a large group (6-8) it's harder to gather. The bathrooms are very adequate but not updated recently. It's a lovely place and a very homey feeling that is welcoming.

A lovely week in Maine

This lovely house is exactly as it appears in the pictures. It is a very loved and cared for house and it was a joy to stay there. The view and the property are so beautiful and the yard so lovely and full of flower gardens and rock walls. It was clean and the kitchen had everything one would need to cook dinner every night, as I did. The beds and linens were very nice and comfy. There were 5 of us and we all were very comfortable and had plenty of space. The fans in every room were a great help. We had a storm and lost power and internet but the rental agents were quick to let us know how long the outage would last. We were happy to have all the books to read as well as magazines to browse while the power was out. It was a great week and we loved the house.

Fall family vacation

Our stay at Artist Retreat was wonderful! The views were absolutely incredible!! The house was surrounded by local hiking trails and close to Acadia there was so much to do. The house was clean and fully stocked with everything we could have needed being away from home. The Island Agency was very responsive with any questions we had. Would love to come back another time!

Wonderful stay with ideal September weather

This is a lovely house and property accessible down a long, secluded lane from the nearby road. It is close to the Deer Isle Village that has arts and crafts stores, a public library and lovely little coffee shop. The house is in extremely good condition with lovely views of the water. There are decks on both the East and West sides of the house with the major windows facing South. The house is also surrounded by a lovely woodland garden that contributes to the serene atmosphere. The house is located in an area in which there is an abundance of walks easily accessible within a few minutes drive. We were also surprised and pleased to see how well the house has been maintained and how well equipped it was.

We had a wonderful experience at Artists Retreat with in-laws & children. The location is great, right on the water, and we brought our kayaks which could be launched directly from the shore. The house could use a bit of updating on the near horizon in terms of bathrooms and kitchen, but everything was functional. Recommend for a great place to gather family in Maine!
