Situated within a tropical garden at the end of a short gated drive with a private 20ft swimming pool and large sun terrace, Makere House and Cottage represent the ideal retreat in which to relax and unwind.

The house and cottage are of a similar size and ideal for two couples travelling together or a family with older children who want to be together but value some space. The house sits on the upper level at the end of the driveway, with the cottage and pool connected by a flight of lit steps below.

The house has a master bedroom with a king-size bed, views out to the bay and an ensuite bathroom. The living room is very comfortable with a 3 seater sofa bed and armchair and adjoins the open plan kitchen via a breakfast bar. The kitchen has all modern requirements and there is a washing machine and tumble dryer in the pump room underneath the house. Its signature feature is its expansive 12ft wrap around covered wooden deck where you can laze in a hammock and enjoy meals looking out over Cane Garden Bay, Sage Mountain and the Caribbean Sea.

The cottage is also very spacious. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, views over Cane Garden Bay and plenty of closet space. The large living room is very comfortable with a 3 seater sofa bed, armchair, day bed and dining table and is linked to the master bedroom via an adjoining 10-foot wide covered deck. Similar to the house above, the kitchen has all modern requirements and connects to both the living room and private bathroom.

The private swimming pool is on the same level as the cottage offering a welcome escape from the Caribbean heat. A sun terrace providing a spacious area for both sunbathing and al fresco dining surrounds the pool.

Both the house and cottage have been built very much in the ‘Caribbean Style’ with wooden decks, blue shutter windows, white walls and terracotta-tiled floors creating a clean and simple environment. With their positioning up on the hill there is usually a lovely cooling breeze at all times of year.

You will need to hire a 4-wheel drive vehicle on arrival in Tortola. We can provide you with contact details for a local car rental company who will meet you at the airport or ferry terminal and, if arriving after hours, arrange for you to be collected and taken to Makere where you car will be waiting. We will provide you with directions and a Google Maps Pin with which to find the property.

Our property manager lives nearby and can provide emergency assistance if you need it. Their contact number will be provided with the joining instructions.

AMAZING!!!

"This place exceeded all expectations. We head south from Maine every year for 2 weeks. This property can't get any better. Pictures are great but nothing can do it justice besides just going there. One of the best locations on the island in my opinion. We had our family with 2 little ones and also my mother. The set up was perfect to give us all our own space. The views, fruit trees and pool just make this villa absolute heaven. We have decided that Tortola is our only destination moving forward. We are going to plan 3 weeks next year instead of 2. You will not find a better villa at an amazing price. Simply incredible"

Brilliant Vacation

"Just had a fantastic 5 days at Makere House & Cottage. Tina's house is a gem and perfectly set up for us with 2 teenage kids who took over the cottage while we slept in the main house. The views from the deck do not disappoint and many hours spent there in the early mornings waiting for the rest of the family to get out of bed. Mornings spent hanging out at the house and then afternoons exploring the island and finding the best beaches. Smugglers Cover won the vote (don't give up on the drive down if you think you've gone wrong). Josiah's Bay great for surfing lessons and boogie boarding. Car ferry from near the airport to Virgin Gorda was a great find."

Fantastic views in paradise!

"What a wonderful view and property this is! It has a very private and comfortable ambiance, is nicely furnished, and the large pool has a great view over Cane Garden Bay. Very highly recommended! One of the most beautiful villas, with a view, that we have ever stayed in!"

Makere House and Tortola are paradise!

"My husband and I and our 4 kids (13-20) spent 6 days over Christmas vacation at Makere. It was perfect for us....2separate houses (1 for the kids and one for us) a pool and stunning views! We loved having breakfast in the morning and drinks in the evening on the porch enjoying the incredible view, island sounds and the beautiful breeze. The hammock was the prized spot to hang out on on the porch. The roads are steep and windy, but Makere is well located and it's easy to get to either side of the island. The beach at Brewers Bay is just down the hill and is beautiful with great snorkeling and a beach bar for snacks/drinks. Beach chairs can be rented for $5 each. The conch and BBQ were great at Myettes in Cane Garden Bay (Makere overlooks Cane Garden Bay) and fabulous food, drinks, service and views at Bananakeet Cafe in Carrot Bay. The kitchen is well stocked and there is a grill, so you can eat many meals at home while enjoying the best view on the island. The lush landscaping around Makere is incredible. In addition to the beautiful, colorful flowers, there are palm trees, lime trees, banana trees and what looked like a mango tree. Tina and Adam were also very nice and the booking process was very easy. We would highly recommend Makere House and we hope to return again soon."

Beautiful Vacation Retreat

"This is a great place to stay with a small group. We were 3 couples, who were easily able to make the lower house a 2 bedroom and the upper house the master bedroom with main cooking and lounge location. Mobbsie, who oversees the house, was extremely helpful during our stay. The kitchen was equipped with all basic cooking supplies such as knifes and pots and pans. Both houses have small coffee makers. There is a small grocery store close by. The main house has a fantastic porch for lounging, outside dinners, etc. The pool was a fantastic option for the mornings, but you do not want to miss the beaches! There is a beautiful, calm beach just a few minutes away and plenty of other great beach options around the island."

Slice of heaven!

"We stayed at Makere House in early January of 2016. The home, guest house, pool and property are beautiful - exceeding the expectations created by the pictures. The view itself provided a "pinch me because I must be dreaming" moment. Absolutely stunning. We were blessed with beautiful weather during the day and rains at night, which made it perfect for sleeping! The house provided very easy access via rental car to nearby beaches, restaurants and the downtown area shops. Thank you for sharing your treasure with our family. We will go back again -once would not be enough!"
