Posada Casa Tucán Tranquilo is a family-run rural guesthouse operated by a local Afro-Indigenous family in the community of Gandoca, located next to the Gandoca–Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge on Costa Rica’s Southern Caribbean coast. Posada Casa Tucán Tranquilo is the only rural guesthouse in Gandoca officially certified by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) under the Rural Tourism category, meeting international-quality standards while preserving Afro-Indigenous culture and community life.

Our rooms and family casitas are set within tropical gardens where monkeys, toucans, and tropical birds are part of daily life. Guests enjoy peaceful nights, fresh air, and easy access to one of the most biologically rich regions in Costa Rica.

We follow a regenerative tourism approach, meaning every stay actively supports the land and the people who care for it. Your visit contributes to wildlife conservation, cultural traditions, and environmental education in the Gandoca area.

Gandoca is home to a vibrant Afro-Indigenous culture, rooted in fishing, cacao farming, forest stewardship, and Caribbean heritage. Guests can join community-based experiences such as turtle conservation, traditional Caribbean cooking, cacao harvesting, and guided nature walks led by local residents.

Because there are no restaurants in the community, we offer home-style Caribbean meals prepared by local families using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are available, allowing guests to relax and enjoy the rhythm of rural Caribbean life.
