Wonderful Montauk Stay

This adorable, cozy cottage was perfect for our family getaway to Montauk. We have tried various rentals and hotels each summer and Robert’s cottage was by far our favorite. It fit our family of 5 perfectly, with enough room that we didn’t feel on top of each other. The decor was light and airy and just what we were hoping to find. From the awesome location, just a walk to the ocean, to the indoor pool and back up to a comfortable stay, our entire family agree that we can’t wait to return! Communication was easy and Robert was the best host we have had. Thank you for a great stay! You made the end of our summer one we will always cherish.

Perfect location

My husband and I had a fabulous week at the beach. Staying in Dr J's cottage was perfect. The house is situated @ 250 feet from beautiful Hither Hills beach. We just walked down to the waves every day where a chaise lounge and umbrella was waiting for us! Showering in the outdoor shower was perfect. The house is a five minute drive from the center of town, convenient to everything Montauk has to offer. The house is clean and airy. The week we chose turned out to be the hottest of the year, so far, and we were comfortably cool the whole week. We couldn't ask for a more relaxing vacation. Thank you, Dr J for the bottle of wine. It worked well with the steamed clams we made for dinner one night. Hopefully we will be able to rent your house again next year!

Super cute cottage

I want to start by saying we loved our stay at this cottage. You can see the ocean from the porch and it is very close (though not walkable) to the stores and restaurants in Montauk. That said, there were a number of cosmetic issues — no trash liners, no trash bin in the one bathroom, and a lot of dead bugs all over the floors. We called he maintenance guy listed in the welcome email but he never came by to investigate. Also, no dust pan, which was weird. Finally, it is a small cottage. My sister and I stayed (in separate bedrooms) but if we had to use the pullout (as originally planned) it would have been too much. If you have six people (or plan on using the pullout) you might want to pick another place. Oh, and the coffeemaker uses cone filters. Didn't know that until we got there. Not a huge deal (obviously) but I just thought I would help out the next guests.

Cute cottage

This is a cute little cottage for 2 couples with direct access to Montauk's beautiful beach and close to downtown area. However, I do not recommend it for more than 4 people, unless a family with kids. The pullout couch fills the entire living room and the single shower requires a long time to get everyone showered and dressed to go out. The outdoor shower would have made things much better but it did not work when we arrived. Owner did get it turned on sometime after our first day without us knowing so we did not realize it was usable until final morning. The cottage was very clean, linens of high quality and in sufficient number for everyone, and the kitchen was adequately stocked for food prep. Some essentials like garbage bags, sponges, toilet paper, paper towels, dish towels and coffee filters would have been much appreciated. The microwave was not working and several bathroom light bulbs were missing. Also, the master bed was the squeakiest I've ever experienced which in a cottage so small could put a damper on some people's vacation!!

Leigh: Thank you for the review. However, it is a 70 year old 1000 sq foot cozy cottage with beamed ceilings on the ocean, with two showers. It is not a winter home which has huge living areas which I believe is what you wanted. We do have a deck out side to sun bath and or have all meals over looking the ocean. We do tell our guests to bring favorite soaps, coffee filters and paper towels. The microwave is brand new? Is it possible you did not know how to use it? Sorry, that everything was not to your liking, but I certainly will check out the bed. First complaint on the bed ever? As much as we try to accommodate our guests, you cannot make everyone happy all the time. Robert

Nice stay!

Nice stay, but the owner was unaware of the pass needed to park and our car was almost towed. He is now aware to let his renters know. Sliding door lock is a bit hard to manage could use a refresh to make locking up and mostly unlocking easier. All is all close to the beach, nice view and clean.

Thank you for your review. You told me you were able to get wifi on your computer? With the two hurricanes we just had I can understand that this problem is possible. I was told that I must install a 30 foot antenna and new modem to solve this. This problem exists all over Montauk since Montauk is located 120 miles out into the ocean. 90 % of the time the wifi works perfectly.

Convenient Location

Overall the property served all of our needs; however, there are a couple points of improvement. We were not able to connect to the wi-fi in the cottage as it requested an email and password log in that we were not given, which made it very difficult for some of us who had to finish our work day remotely to do so. Also, there was a honeycomb in one of the bedrooms and there were no cleaning supplies available in the cottage so we had to purchase our own. The easy access to the beach and location offset these points and we enjoyed our stay.

Nice getaway

This is a very nice and cozy place outside of town. You do have the access to the resort amenities. The only issue we kind of had but wasn't the end of the word was the wireless connectivity. It would also cut in and out so it wasn't very reliable.

Lovely clean Cottage

The cottage was a nice size very clean with new furniture and appliances. It was great having a private master half bath. There was a comfortable couch. Lots of towels and extra sheets. The owner was very responsive and sent a handyman over immediately to fix some shades that were broken Very nice size deck with a good size table and umbrella. The waterview was relaxing to look at although at a distance. The cottage was situated on the side of the hotel parking lot which detracted from the view and althoug there are hedges you would hear people, cars and trucks go by frequently. It was also a hike down and then up two hills to the beach. All in all I would recommend it for location access to the beach and I liked the cottage itself which was roomy and could accomodate a family or even a couple of guests. We had a very enjoyable week there.

A unique Montauk experience

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Oceanfront Cottage from July 22-29, 2016. The interior of the cottage was recently renovated and has new appliances. The central air conditioning worked very well. The bathrooms were clean and functional. The outdoor shower helped to alleviate people getting in each other's way in the morning. The deck, though somewhat dated, provided a table, umbrella and ample seating along with a partial ocean view. The cottage very comfortably accommodates 4 people with room for 2 more on the pullout sofa bed. The cottage is on the grounds of the Wavecrest Resort so additional guests can stay at its many nearby units at a reasonable price. We were 8 People, 5 adults and 3 children, ages 4, 11 and 13, so 4 of us stayed at the cottage while the other 4 stayed at a room closer to the ocean. The cottage was cozy enough for all of us to be together throughout the day. We were able to utilize most of the resort amenities and services including the indoor pool, beach umbrellas, lounges and chairs. A food truck with a tasty, varied menu is conveniently located at the beach entrance. The only inconveniences, which really didn't mar the overall experience, were the frustrating lack of a reliable cell phone signal and the steepness of the hill. We have visited the Hamptons and Montauk for more than a decade. The towns each have their own abience, vibe and charm. The Oceanfront Cottage is located so that, within less than 20 minutes, you can access the particular ambience you seek; from the joyous hubbub of an authentic, working fishing dock to the sublime elegance of the world-renowned "Hamptons' scene". Our family is most appreciative of the care and responsiveness of the host and staff. We highly recommend the Oceanfront Cottage for a truly unique and memorable vacation.

Beach cottage by the ocean

It's just what I needed to be still and be quiet. Dr. Jarmain was very kind. GPS took me the wrong way and I called him. He was very patient with me. Left me a bottle of wine and stopped by (for half a minute...lol) to say hi. The cottage is clean and the beds are certainly comfy. I have sensitive skin and often get itchy with the sheets but the ones available didn't bother me, they even smelled fresh. I love the kitchen too. I'd definitely stay here again and invite some friends over next time. The only down side are the utility vehicles I could hear sometimes in the morning but there's really nothing that can be done about that. Anyway, thank you, Dr. Jarmain!

Wonderful family time!

Spent a long weekend getaway at this private cottage with our two adult children who live in New York City. The cottage is very clean and well-equipped, within a short walk to the beach down the hill. We enjoyed cooking on the outdoor grill and had bonfires on the beach. The outdoor shower is a unique feature. The only issue we had was that the maids showed up 10 minutes early of checkout time and basically chased us out; we had to quickly gather our belongings and were out the door. Beware checkout time is strictly enforced!

Great owner, close to gorgeous beach, very cozy

Robert is the kindest most generous host. He was very helpful and responsive when we needed his help. Thank you for the wine. Delicious! Ruth was great in helping us keep the cottage clean and tidy throughout the stay. The cottage is very cosy and close enough to the beach and the pool. Yard is nice and big and very convenient for dinners on the porch. Kitchen is well equipped and the outdoor shower is the highlight of the place. We never once showered indoors. Our sons enjoyed the cottage tremendously. The only problem we had was with the beds that are definitely outdated and really uncomfortable. The sofa bed in the living room is practically unusable. Lastly, there is no dryer/washer in the cottage or the facility differently from what the publication claims. The closest one is in Montauk, efficient and cheap. Pros: yard, outdoor shower, close beach, pool, very gracious owner Cons: beds, no dryer/washer

Wavecrest Rental

Dr. J's cottage is lovely...very clean and comfortable. He was very accommodating in resolving a couple of issues as we were probably first of the season to rent. Beach is huge, clean and beautiful although to early to swim. Only drawback was the hill to the beach - would have been easier if we were younger!!!

Lovely Gem

We stayed in a lovely, recently renovated cottage next to the Wavecrest (a little west of Panoramic & Gurney's). It slept 4 comfortably, but the couch opened for 2 more. My teenagers were able to use the heated pool & played soccer in the yard. The beach was just down the hill & there was a grill & a lovely table on the porch. Dr. J (owner) was helpful & on call for e mailed questions. I would recommend & will be happy to return next year.

Great time!

We just had a great time at this private cabin in Montauk! It was quiet, charming and relaxing, with nice proximity to the beach and indoor pool. It slept 6 easily and accommodated us with 1 1/2 baths plus an outdoor shower. We'd love to come again!

Lovely Beachy Get-Away!

The cottage is clean & exactly as pictured - appointed beautifully. I came for a 2 night holiday with my adult daughters & the cottage was perfect to just have a laid back couple of days together. We walked to the beach, swam in the on-site pool & got to see beautiful sunsets at the Montauket as well as dine at other wonderful restaurants nearby. Dr. J was wonderful to work with & I would definitely come back again. Thanks, Dr. J for accommodating us & for your hospitality!

Ideal

This well-appointed cottage was perfect for me. I wanted solitude but not total seclusion. The location is absolutely fantastic - steps to a fabulous beach with complimentary sand chairs, umbrellas and towels; plus a short drive to the town. All the amenities were better than described. The deck was a perfect place to catch up on my reading. The owner was incredibly gracious in his hospitality - he presented a warm greeting and made sure I was comfortable and cared for. The overall all experience was no less than elegant! I hope to return sooner rather than later!
